NANS Condemns 120 Cutoff For Varsity Admission
on: August 25, 2017, 08:25:08 AM

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) says the 120 cut-off mark for admission into Nigerian universities is a slap on the country’s education.

NANS Vice President Olamide Odumosu made this known during a protest by the association at the headquarters of Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) on Thursday in Bwari, Abuja.

JAMB had announced the pegging of national minimum cut-off mark for admission into universities at 120 and 100 for polytechnics.

The announcement attracted widespread condemnation from stakeholders across the country.

Odumosu said at the protest that the reduction in the cut-off points would only lead to corruption as well as worsen the level of academic performance of students.

He added that NANS had supported the present administration in its fight against corruption, but the recent development was an act of exploitation on Nigerian students.

”JAMB giving us 120 as a cut-off mark for Nigerian universities is a slap to our country,” he said.

Odumosu added that the association would mobilise students across the 36 states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to stage a protest if nothing was done to all of their plights.
