on: August 16, 2017, 02:14:23 PM

The Catholic Diocese of Nnewi has donated N2.2 million to victims of the Aug. 6 gun attack on worshippers at a church in Ozubulu community, Anambra state.

The church, St. Philip’s Catholic Church, in Ekwusigo, was attacked by unknown gunmen who killed 12 people and injured scores of others.

Most Rev. Hilary Okeke, the Bishop of the Diocese, who announced the donation on Wednesday, said each of the 44 affected victims would get N50,000 each. The Bishop said: ”Many people and groups in the church are helping the victims. These people eat and that is why we give them money.

”The families of the dead will not be forgotten.”

The Bishop also inaugurated the Ozubulu Casualties Welfare Committee, to enable the church profile the victims, visit them at hospitals where they are being treated and attend to their needs more effectively.
