Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer, has sympathized with Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portugal captain departed from his team’s bench on Wednesday.

Ronaldo was an unused substitute as Man United defeated Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford, thanks to two goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes.

The former Real Madrid and Juventus star stole the headlines after deciding to head down to the dressing room before the full-time whistle of the match.

Speaking on Ronaldo’s action, Shearer feels the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is under pressure and in a difficult situation, adding that he is the best football player in the world.

It’s a difficult situation for him, we are talking about the best player in the world, maybe the best player we have ever seen,” Shearer told BT Sport.

“So, he is under pressure from that point of view.”

He added, “But it does make things difficult for the manager because he is going to be asked about that in the press conference. Whereas, in reality, he should be talking about every one of his players on the pitch tonight because they have all been impressive.”

Ronaldo will now hope to feature for Man United when they face Chelsea in their next Premier League match on Saturday.
