 Governor Adeleke to Osun People: Thank You for A-Rating our Government & Entrenching the PDP in Osun. Governor Ademola Adeleke has expressed appreciation to Osun people for their resolute support of his administration in its quest to deliver on his five point agenda on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) Addressing a technical meeting of his Policy Coordination Unit on Saturday, the Governor reviewed the implementation of his five point agenda and expressed satisfaction at the delivery so far across the various sectors. “I am largely satisfied with our programme implementation so far. We have surpassed expectations and targets within one and half years in office. We just need to redouble our efforts as we face mid-term in the next six months. “The feedback from the public has been quite encouraging. Our people have gladly given us an A-rating in workers’ welfare, infrastructure, health, education and many more. We must express our appreciation to our people “They are happy we are delivering on good governance. A friend said our approval rating is over 80 percent. I told him I must work harder in some areas, especially that 20 percent gap. The good thing is we are just one and half years in office. “ Our party has also become very entrenched across the local governments. Leaders who were not with me during the guber primaries are now solidly with us. We are gaining more ground as people get pleasant surprises with our performance. “ Feedback shows our people are happy with our dual effort at physical and stomach infrastructure. We will continue to build the road and the people. We will not neglect human development for physical development. “We must therefore ensure proper coordination in policy design and implementation. Our policy innovation in power, digital economy, agriculture, general economic planning, investment drive, sustainable development, youth development and gender focus must be properly harnessed under the five point agenda”, Governor Adeleke was quoted as telling the review meeting. The Policy coordination unit within the Governor’s office reports to the Chief of Staff to the Governor.

 There was a pandemonium at Odeomu, Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State when irate youths set a vehicle with registration number BDG 481 JD (LAGOS) ablaze after the driver of the car crushed four persons to death. The driver of the vehicle and two other occupants were said to have been coming from Osogbo and allegedly crushed their victims who were on a motorcycle. Saturday Telegraph gathered that the Okada rider and a middle-aged woman alongside her three children were on the bike while the incident happened. The occupants of the vehicle, it was gathered were the students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree who were on their way to Lagos after the completion of their first semester examinations. Witnessing the ugly incident, the youths of the ancient town got infuriated and set the vehicle and its occupants ablaze. However, the driver of the car managed his way and escaped. It took the intervention of the policemen to rescue the two other persons who had already been set ablaze before their arrival. The Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola who confirmed the incident, called for calm. Opalola said: “The driver escaped immediately the accident happened after much appealing to the angry mob they set ablaze the remaining two occupants of the vehicle later we quenched the fire rescued them transferred them to hospital in Osogbo area remained calm”. Meanwhile, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has described the road accident as sad and unfortunate. Adeleke in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed and made available to journalists in Osogbo, on Saturday evening, called for a thorough Investigation and consequent action. The Governor who said the incident is regrettable, especially with the loss of lives involved, called on relevant agencies to investigate the accident in view of negative public reaction. He, however, appealed to the public to be patient as the government will get to the root of the matter and ensure that the law takes its course. “I appeal to our people at Odeomu to remain calm. Action is already ongoing by the Police. The law will take its course”, the Governor was quoted as saying.

 Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested 15 suspected internet fraudsters in Zaria, Kaduna State. The suspects were arrested outside the premises of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, following credible intelligence linking a syndicate of fraudsters to suspected involvement in internet fraud. Items recovered from them include cell phones and laptops. The suspects were immediately moved to the Kano Zonal Command of the EFCC for a more thorough investigation. The commission added that they will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

 No fewer than three persons have been reportedly killed and over 120 others abducted as notorious bandits attacked Goran Namaye community in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State. According to a resident in the area, who gave his name as Abubakar Muhammad, the terrorists invaded the town at about 1:17 am on Thursday, operating from house to house. He further stated that the kidnapped persons were mainly women and men, adding that the terrorists also killed three people during their operation. “The whereabouts of many members of the community could not be traced, and it is very clear that we lost three of our men to the tragic operation,” he added. Speaking further, Muhammad pointed out that the bandits came in large numbers, on motorcycles with sophisticated weapons, and surrounded the community as the people were running helter-skelter to save their lives. “They took us unaware as the whole people were running helter-skelter without direction, and they started house-to-house operations and chased our people, mainly women, into the forest.” As of the time of filing this report, the security agencies in the state have not made any official statement regarding the incident.

In a recent chat with BuzzFeed, Ayra Starr said, “My biggest celeb story is Rihanna. I met Rihanna about two weeks ago. “I went to the Authentic Woman event in London. Adeleke vows to be a frontliner (Asiwaju) of development and growth Osun State Governor, Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke was on Monday, May 13, 2024 conferred with the Chieftancy title of Asiwaju Of Edeland by the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal. In a grand ceremony held at the Ede Palace, Osun State, the Asiwaju Of Ede vowed to be a frontliner (Asiwaju) of development and growth for Edeland and Osun State as a whole. According to him; "I vow to be a frontliner (Asiwaju) of development and growth for Edeland and Osun State as a whole. "I will carry the light of positive transformation from towns to villages and from cities to rural areas across our dear State. "To all Asiwaju title holders of various towns in Osun State, I welcome myself into your midst. "On a lighter mood, I believe you are eager to receive me not just as the Asiwaju of Edeland but as the Asiwaju of Osun State, he said. It will be recalled that former Governor of Osun State, Isiaka Adeleke, who was the brother of the incumbent Governor of the state who passed on in 2017 was the immediate past Asiwaju of Edeland. Today also marked double honours for Governor Adeleke who also marked his 64th birthday today.  The Kogi State Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Gabriel Amari, has said the increase in electricity tariffs by the federal government is a daylight robbery on Nigerians. Comrade Amari stated this on Monday when organised labour stormed the office of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) in Lokoja. The NLC Chairman appealed to the government to reverse the electricity tariffs, stressing that, the present administration has continued to cause untold hardship to innocent Nigerians. “The increase in electricity tariffs is a broad day robbery, which will not be accepted. They promised us change, but we failed to ask questions about what kind of change they were bringing on board. “The government should know that people are suffering with their obnoxious policies. Nigerians are paying for electricity that they are not using. It is under this administration that we are witnessing discrimination in the distribution of power. We can’t continue like this,” he stated. According to Amari, failure of the government to reverse the increase in tariffs will mean a shot down on the power sector. “Privatisation of the electricity sector is a complete failure and fraudulent. Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission, (NERC), we are saying no to discrimination in electricity distribution.We will continue to resist every form of exploitation by this government,” he added. According to him, labour is the only voice that can stop the obnoxious policies of government that are anti people. He said, “The government promised a new minimum wage but failed to implement it. All they know how to do is to increase electricity tariffs without putting the masses into consideration. Nigerians are really suffering. It is high time the government listened attentively to the voices of Nigerians who are calling for an end to their bad policies.” He called on the government to give all Nigerians a uniform band and equal hours of electricity. The NLC Vice Chairman, Comrade Eleoja Opaluwa, called for the immediate withdrawal of the new electricity tariffs, stressing that, the power sector have been neglected for several years by the government.
