This win marks Ancelotti’s fifth triumph in the tournament as a manager.

In an interview with TNT Sports, Mourinho expressed his admiration for the Italian, describing him as a “proper coach” in contrast to a “social media coach.”

“He’s not a social media coach, he’s a proper coach.

“He comes from the meritocracy. Go to his office and see how many medals,” Mourinho said.

Ex Real Madrid manager, Jose Mourinho, has claimed that the structure of the LaLiga club has seen them become the most successful team in Europe.

Mourinho was speaking to TNT Sports at Wembley, after Madrid beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0 to lift their 15th European title.

He said: “Real Madrid’s structure is so simple.

“Florentino Perez, Jose Angel Sanchez, the chief scout and the coach. That’s it.

“It’s absolutely correct and why they win.”

Mourinho himself failed to win the Champions League during his stint at the Bernabeu from 2010 to 2013.

He has however won it twice with FC Porto (2004) and Inter Milan (2010)

Markets and other public facilities have been reportedly closed down as tension heightens in parts of Aba, Abia State, following the gruesome murder of five military personnel by gunmen suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

DAILY POST reports that the bloodthirsty gunmen, who have been wreaking havoc in the Southeast, attacked a military checkpoint at Obikabia junction, Ogbor Hill in Obingwa Local Government Area on Thursday.

The incident, which claimed the lives of five soldiers, occurred when members of the proscribed secessionist group were enforcing sit-at-home in the region to mark the 2024 Biafra Heroes Day.

The daredevil gunmen also destroyed two patrol vans belonging to the military.

DAILY POST gathered that at least six civilians were also killed in the crossfire.

The soldiers who paid the supreme price are: Sergeant Charles Ugochukwu, Sergeant Bala Abraham, Corporal Gideon Egwe, Corporal Ikpeama Ikechukwu and Corporal Augustine Emmanuel.

Reacting to the incident, the Defence Headquarters on Friday vowed to fight back, saying it would be fierce in its response.

A statement issued by the Director, Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba accused IPOB and its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network, ESN, of carrying out the heinous attack.

“The situation leaves more to be desired. Accordingly, it is absolutely imperative that the military retaliate against this dastardly act against troops.

“The military would be fierce in its response. We would bring overwhelming military pressure on the group to ensure their total defeat,” the statement said.

DAILY POST gathered that hours after after the military’s stance, the entire Aba was enveloped in palpable fear.

Reports emerged on Saturday that the tension was heightened as two military helicopters were sighted hovering over the Ogbor Hill area and environs.

Sources told our correspondent on Saturday that the city of Aba is currently under siege by the military, triggering fear of attacks.

It was also gathered that some schools were closed on Friday following the statement by the military.

President General of the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, Goodluck Ibem told DAILY POST that the military has shut down four markets including Ngwa Road Market, Alaoji Market, Cemetery Market and Enyimba Market since the incident happened.

“There is a serious tension in Aba right now. The presence of the soldiers alone is very intimidating. They have blocked any road that leads to their checkpoint. No vehicular movement in those places.

“Some markets are no longer functional because the military closed them down.

“They have closed down four markets. Ngwa road Market, Alaoji Market, Cemetery Market and Enyimba Market are not functioning at the moment.

“Other markets are scanty because of fear of attack by the army”, the COSEYL’s President General added.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Chinaka Maureen declined speaking on the tension, saying “it is a military matter, I only speak for the police”.

However, a police source, who spoke to DAILY POST on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak, confirmed the development, saying people no longer step out of their homes.

According to him, the only solution to the impending face-off between the army and the community where the attack was carried out is for residents to fish out the assailants.

He said, “The Nigerian army will not back down until the perpetrators are apprehended.

“So the best thing the people of Aba will do to save the innocent people is to bring out those that carried out this attack.

“They know themselves. The gunmen were not ghosts, definitely they are members of the society. They should fish out the bad eggs.

“I’m sure that the army is not after any innocent person but you can’t attack and kill military personnel like that and think that you will be free.

“The residents are scared because of what happened in Delta State early this year when soldiers were killed and the military took over the community. The best thing for them now is to help the military apprehend the criminals”.

Meanwhile, the Abia State government has placed a N25 million bounty on the killers of the five soldiers.

The Commissioner for Information in Abia State, Okey Kanu, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.

“To underscore its resolve, the state government is offering a N25 million reward to anyone with useful information that could lead to the location and arrest of any of the criminals connected to the unfortunate killings, and the subsequent state of apprehension across the city of Aba and environs,” he stated.

The commissioner added that security agencies in the state have been directed to treat informants with confidentiality to guarantee their cooperation and assistance until the killers were arrested.

Similarly, while reacting to the killing of the soldiers, President Bola Tinubu on Saturday vowed that the federal government will come down heavily against the criminal elements.

Tinubu in a statement he personally penned down, said on no account should anyone, under any guise, have the audacity to kill agents of state.

He warned that the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the armed forces have the capacity to crush violent non-state actors.

Biden vetoes congressional disapproval of SEC accounting bulletin on crypto assets.

According to Reuters, U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday vetoed a congressional disapproval of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's accounting bulletin on crypto assets.
"By virtue of invoking the Congressional Review Act, this Republican-led resolution would inappropriately constrain the SEC's ability to set forth appropriate guardrails and address future issues," Biden said in a statement released by the White House.

Lobbying groups for the U.S. banks sent President Joe Biden a letter asking him to change his mind on his threat to veto the congressional effort to overturn SAB 121. Members of Congress did, too.

In recent bipartisan votes that saw many members of Biden's party rebuff his opposition, Congress decided to reject SEC's Staff Accounting Bulletin No. 121 (SAB 121) – a controversial accounting standard that would require banks to treat customers' digital assets differently than other assets, demanding they be kept on a bank's balance sheet. Crypto companies have argued this threatens their ability to do business with banks, and the bankers agree.

"SAB 121 effectively precludes regulated banking organizations from offering digital asset custody at scale since it treats the assets as if they are owned rather than simply custodied by a banking organization," according to a letter to Biden on Friday, signed by several groups, including the American Bankers Association and Financial Services Forum.

"Institutions that are forced to record custodied digital assets on the balance sheet are subjected to higher capital, liquidity, and other prudential requirements, unlike their non-bank competitors."

The letter came the same day Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) and Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) published their own letter to Biden, dated May 30, similarly asking him to not veto, or at least "work with the SEC to rescind the staff guidance."

"Rescinding SAB 121 is well within the SEC’s authority, and there is ample precedent for revisiting a staff accounting bulletin," the letter said. "In fact, most staff accounting bulletins over the last three decades have been revisions and rescissions of prior guidance."

Seven other representatives signed onto the letter, including Reps. Mike Flood (R-Neb.) and Wiley Nickel (D-N.C.), the sponsors of the resolution.

Biden's threat to veto the resolution noted that erasing the rule under the Congressional Review Act would mean nothing similar could be implemented by the SEC in the future, which would "inappropriately constrain the SEC’s ability to ensure appropriate guardrails and address future issues related to crypto-assets, including financial stability."

The group of 11 Senate Democrats who went against the president included Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.), the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, who said at CoinDesk's Consensus 2024 on Friday that the SEC's policy "basically sets up a different standard for crypto than everybody else has in the financial sector."

Last week, SEC Chair Gary Gensler sought to explain SAB 121 as an attempt for the regulator to respond to the turmoil and investor harm happening in crypto during 2022.

He argued it was "just" a staff bulletin meant to address the fact that the failures of collapsing crypto firms were treating customer assets as part of their bankruptcy estates.

Biden has until Monday to make a final decision on whether to veto the resolution or not.

Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke has explained the strategy for developing all towns and cities across the state without leaving rural areas out.

Senator Adeleke said the strategy was adopted with a view to ensuring that the development agenda of his administration cuts across all the local government areas within the state.

The Governor said he made up his mind to ensure that no part of the state is left out in the scheme of development as every town and village deserve to be developed.

The State Governor explained this while receiving members of Inisa traditional council led by the Olunisa of Inisa in Odo Otin Local Government, Oba Joseph Oladunjoye Oyedele Fasikun II who came to pay solidarity visit on him in the Government House, Oke Fia, Osogbo.

“This administration is for all for all, from East to West , from North to South. We are spreading governance without discriminating on a political or religious basis.

“We are the truly progressive leadership as we satisfy and respond to the needs and aspirations of the people. We are the real Awoists as we meet our people at the point of their needs. I wake up and go to sleep with passion to make life better and good for our people.

“I learnt a lot from my late father, Senator Ayoola Adeleke, the most important being that leadership must have the people as the main focus. That lesson was not lost on me and my late brother, the first Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Isiaka Adeleke.

“That was why from day one of my assumption of office, my goal was to render selfless service to the people. Within one and half years, I have recorded commendable milestones.

"It is born out of my resolve to revamp the agriculture and food production that made me announce the immediate reconstruction of Oree/Agbeye road so that our people in that axis will be able to commute and transport goods especially agricultural products from one area to another”, the Governor explained.

Senator Adeleke while highlighting some of his achievements in the area of road infrastructure said the construction of Osogbo to Ikirun road which was initiated by the APC administration was in a bid to reduce road accidents and guarantee free flow of traffic along the axis.

He said the ongoing repair of primary health care centres was in fulfillment of his health improvement agenda.

He said the Imole Free Medical and Surgical Outreach programme has benefited about 50,000 residents who were suffering from different diseases like cataracts, diabetes, lumps, appendicitis, hernia and so on.

Senator Adeleke told the traditional council that he has continued to invest in education by building and renovating blocks of classrooms, recruitment, training and promotion of teachers as well as distribution of instructional and writing materials to students across the State.

"Our administration has just concluded training for our teachers so that we can improve their capacity to impact knowledge on our children".

Earlier in his address, the Olunisa of Inisa, Oba Joseph Oladunjoye Oyedele Fasikun II said the council was in the Government House to appreciate the Governor for wonderful job across the State.

Oba Oyedele who assured Senator Adeleke that the entire people of the town are solidly behind him described the information being spread around that Chief Shuaib Oyedokun led thousands of Inisa indigenes to the APC as mere rumours saying that Inisa traditional council is convinced that the PDP administration meant well for the State.

Oba Oyedele was accompanied by Chief Nathaniel Ìdòwú (Baale Ode Inisa), Chief Adetoyi Abimbola Ganiyu (Ọtun Ilu of Inisa), Chief Omotosho Ademola Tajudeen(Jagun of Inisaland), Chief Radius Ajibade (Baale Oke Omo, Inisa and Secretary of Inisa Council), Chief Adebimpe Jimoh( Akogun of Inisa) and a chieftain of the People's Democratic Party from Inisa, Aremo Adekunle Alao.

A former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has vowed never to sing the newly adopted national anthem, ‘Nigeria, we hail thee’.

Ezekwesili said she would continue singing the previous national anthem, ‘Arise, O compatriots’.

Her remark was in response to President Bola Tinubu’s confirmation of ‘Nigeria, we hail thee’ as the latest national anthem.

Posting on X, Ezekwesili wrote: “Let it be known to all and sundry that I, Obiageli “Oby” Ezekwesili will whenever asked to sing the Nigerian National Anthem sing:

1. Arise, O compatriots, Nigeria’s call obey
To serve our fatherland
With love and strength and faith
The labour of our heroes past
Shall never be in vain
To serve with heart and might
One nation bound in freedom, peace and unity.

2. Oh God of creation, direct our noble cause
Guide our leader’s right
Help our youth the truth to know
In love and honesty to grow
And living just and true
Great lofty heights attain
To build a nation where peace and justice reign.

She added: “This is my own National Anthem and let it be known that no one can suppress my right to dissent an obnoxious “law” that is repugnant to all that is of good conscience in Nigeria. Whatever else is #NotMyNationalAnthem.”

SpyLoaded News / Tinubu arrives National Assembly, delivers brief speech
« Last post by Mr. Babatunde on May 29, 2024, 03:19:41 PM »

President Bola Tinubu has arrived at the National Assembly Complex as part of his itinerary to commemorate the 25 years of unbroken democracy in Nigeria.

Tinubu’s motorcade arrived at the National Assembly at about 11:57am and he’s yet to enter the chamber.

Shortly after the president’s arrival, the Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, alongside the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, entered the chamber.

Mr Akpabio announced that the President would not address the chamber but only listen to the Old National Anthem.

He urged the lawmakers to download the new anthem.

However, the President, thereafter, made a brief speech to the lawmakers.

This is coming amid confusion from the Presidency over conflicting statements of Tinubu addressing a joint session of the National Assembly.

On Monday, the National Assembly had announced that it would hold a special joint session on Wednesday to mark the 25th anniversary of democracy in Nigeria.
