A former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has vowed never to sing the newly adopted national anthem, ‘Nigeria, we hail thee’.

Ezekwesili said she would continue singing the previous national anthem, ‘Arise, O compatriots’.

Her remark was in response to President Bola Tinubu’s confirmation of ‘Nigeria, we hail thee’ as the latest national anthem.

Posting on X, Ezekwesili wrote: “Let it be known to all and sundry that I, Obiageli “Oby” Ezekwesili will whenever asked to sing the Nigerian National Anthem sing:

1. Arise, O compatriots, Nigeria’s call obey
To serve our fatherland
With love and strength and faith
The labour of our heroes past
Shall never be in vain
To serve with heart and might
One nation bound in freedom, peace and unity.

2. Oh God of creation, direct our noble cause
Guide our leader’s right
Help our youth the truth to know
In love and honesty to grow
And living just and true
Great lofty heights attain
To build a nation where peace and justice reign.

She added: “This is my own National Anthem and let it be known that no one can suppress my right to dissent an obnoxious “law” that is repugnant to all that is of good conscience in Nigeria. Whatever else is #NotMyNationalAnthem.”

SpyLoaded News / Tinubu arrives National Assembly, delivers brief speech
« Last post by Mr. Babatunde on May 29, 2024, 03:19:41 PM »

President Bola Tinubu has arrived at the National Assembly Complex as part of his itinerary to commemorate the 25 years of unbroken democracy in Nigeria.

Tinubu’s motorcade arrived at the National Assembly at about 11:57am and he’s yet to enter the chamber.

Shortly after the president’s arrival, the Speaker of the House, Abbas Tajudeen, alongside the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, entered the chamber.

Mr Akpabio announced that the President would not address the chamber but only listen to the Old National Anthem.

He urged the lawmakers to download the new anthem.

However, the President, thereafter, made a brief speech to the lawmakers.

This is coming amid confusion from the Presidency over conflicting statements of Tinubu addressing a joint session of the National Assembly.

On Monday, the National Assembly had announced that it would hold a special joint session on Wednesday to mark the 25th anniversary of democracy in Nigeria.

Music Videos / Russ Releases New Song ‘Best Friend’ with Melii: Listen
« Last post by Mr. Babatunde on May 27, 2024, 02:37:42 AM »

Rapper and singer Russ, who was last seen with 6LACK on the extremely emotional and evocative single, ‘Workin’ on Me’, has quickly followed the audience’s welcoming reception with his latest, ‘Bestfriend’, featuring Melii.

In a back to back approach of dropping singles, which is rather uncharacteristic of artists beyond a certain phase of their career (barring Kendrick and Drake in recent times!), the rapper is back to his 2016 self.

In an Instagram post a day before the song’s release, Russ expressed the same sentiment about how it feels like he’s back to dropping new music weekly.

The song is produced by hitmaker Boi-1da who Russ has collaborated with a few times now.

Fans have been excited for this one, owing especially to the fact that Russ has been touring with Melii. It speaks volumes as to the connections Russ cherishes, and how he takes out time in the middle of touring to work with people who perform with him. This sort of connection in music is rather rare now, and one we personally cherish. So, without further ado, here is where you can stream the track that’s out now!

Atlanta rapper Quavo, last seen beefing with Chris Brown and defending the late Takeoff, is back with another single, ‘Clear the Smoke’. Produced by Hitkidd & Wheezy, the track is a powerful testament to what worked for the Migos in the first place and we are here for it.

Without taking the time to rush through his raps, Quavo is rapping laid back in his trademark style of trap and triplet rap flows. The catchy call and response track takes a simple hook approach, with ad libs floating in a manner that makes the track perfect for live performances. The track was also leaked a day or two before the official release, but was quickly taken down.

The unanticipated leak only boost the hype for the track, reeling in fans posting any snippet they could find on Youtube. Now, there is no need to go hunting for beat up audio files! The bass heavy beats and the simplistic format of Quavo songs makes it perfectly palatable for a wide range of audiences, and it perfectly compliments Quavo’s smooth flow with hard hitting drums and percussion.

Now, we know you’re itching to hear the track so it’s best we cut this short, and let Quavo clear the smoke.
