Three crossdressers are lucky to be alive after they were attacked by about men.

The men attacked the crossdresser with bottles then humiliated them by forcing them to strip naked.

The incident occurred on Saturday, May 1, at Sunset Bar in Cotonou, Benin.

The violence was captured on cell phone video and uploaded to social media.

It caught the attention of an NGO and LGBT+ advocacy group Hirondelle Club Benin and they shared it on Twitter to spread awareness about violence against transgenders.

The video caption reads: "We have just denounced an umpteenth aggression against people LGBTQi in Benin a few days before the celebration of May 17. We condemn these acts with the last rigor. We will come back for more details."

In the video, the men are seen harassing the crossdressers. The men forced them to take off their clothes while also slapping them and throwing objects at them.

One of the victims told The Observers that the attack was planned.

One of the victims said: "My man knew I was transgender and asked me to invite my transgender friends. When we arrived, he asked me to go outside.

"Once we managed to get outside to help our friend, they began attacking the three of us. There were about 200 men there, and they forced us to strip naked while they laughed and filmed up. It was humiliating."

The victims were able to take shelter within Hirondelle Club Benin. But they said the "whole nation", including "our families and bosses", viewed the video of the attack after it went viral on social media.

Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, on Thursday, blamed Nigeria’s insecurity challenge on the failure of past leaders.

Umahi said the failure of past Nigerian leaders to address the future of youths was responsible for the current spate of insecurity.

The Chairman of the Southeast Governors Forum disclosed this while appearing on Channels Television’s Politics Today, on Thursday.

Umahi, who stressed that Nigerians should not blame the current administration for the spike in insecurity, insisted that the situation was systemic.

The governor called for sincerity in the fight against insecurity, if the country is to win the war.

He said: “When people talk about the recent insecurity in our country, I keep saying that the insecurity did not just develop overnight.

It has been a result of the failure of our past leaders to address the future of our youths. And this is the truth. So it’s not a question of blaming Mr President or blaming Governors or blaming APC or PDP; it is systematic and it has been there for a very long time.

I think that we must deploy sincerity in our approach; we must deploy consultation, wisdom and prayers. If all these are put together, I am sure that the insecurity in the country will be a thing of the past.”

« Last post by Miss Ifeoluwa on May 06, 2021, 05:50:51 PM »

Ali Sherif al-Emadi, Qatari Finance Minister, has been arrested over allegations of embezzlement, abuse of power, and crimes related to the public sector.

A statement carried by state news agency QNA announced his arrest on Thursday, May 6.

"After reviewing documents, and their attached reports, The Attorney General ordered the arrest of the Minister of Finance Ali Sharif Al-Emadi to investigate what was mentioned in the reports of crimes related to practising public office, which were damage to public funds, abuse of public office, and abusive of power.

The Attorney General ordered extensive investigations regarding the crimes raised in the documents,” read the official statement.

An investigation is underway, the statement added.

"The findings and investigation are related to his government position as finance minister and not to his board member roles at other entities," a source with knowledge of the investigation said, declining to give further details.

One Qatar-based diplomat said, "the arrest was unexpected".

"It is always good to see governments upholding their laws and cracking down on corruption and abuse of power," the diplomat added.

Another Doha-based diplomat told AFP: "This is actually great, it shows Qatar is taking corruption seriously -- if that is what it is found to be -- and helps build the image of the rule of law being complied with."

Al-Emadi has been serving as Qatar’s finance minister since 2013. He is also the executive chairman of Qatar Airways and chairman of the board of the Qatar Investment Authority.

According to SaharaReporters, a political group called 'I Stand With Buhari', has threatened to expose alleged sponsors of terrorism and banditry Nigeria

Spokesperson for the group, Mr Ifeanyi Ezedinma, at a news conference on Thursday in Abuja gave the suspected sponsors one month to denounce the acts.

The group described the activities of terrorists and bandits in the country as a sabotage.

According to the group, it is in possession of some classified documents that will expose the sponsors causing problems in the country.

“We also have a list of their names, from state governors down to political influencers, youth organisations, as well as clandestine organisations under their payroll.

“We are therefore giving them until the end of the month to disband their private militia and discontinue their sponsorship of banditry and terrorism in Nigeria.

“If they refuse by the end of the month, we will not only expose their identities to the world but will also embark on mass action against them in their respective locations,’’ he said.

The group described Nigeria as "indivisible".

“Buhari means well for the country and is working to ensure that all agents of darkness sponsoring the current security challenge are exposed and brought to book,” the group said.

I Don't Want To Die - Nigerian Actress, Seyi Ariyo Cries Out As Masqueraders Threaten To Kill In 7 Days.

Seyi Ariyo, a Nigerian actress and filmmaker, also known as Shebaby, recently took to her Instagram account to raise the alarm that her life is being threatened by masqueraders.

In the video, the teary-eyed actress revealed that she had been getting life-threatening messages from these masqueraders because of a scene in her forthcoming movie, which portrayed a woman having sex with a masquerade.

In the Yoruba culture, such an act is seen as taboo. However, the sex scene leaked online and ever since she has received over 200 threat messages.

In an exclusive chat with The PUNCH, she said, “They are really threatening my life; I am not alleging it. I received over 200 calls from them a few days ago. Some called to curse me while others said I will die in the next seven days.

“I had to switch off my phone. I learnt they released my number to the worldwide platform of herbalists and traditionalists. They said that I want to destroy our culture and traditions. They have not watched the movie, that is why we have this misunderstanding.

“We recorded a part where a masquerade had sex with a lady and even in the movie, we made it known that it is a taboo. The herbalist in the movie told the woman that if she performs the act, her child will be well, but it will have a repercussion. She was desperate so she went ahead with the ritual.

“Some people recorded that scene with their phones and one of them posted it on Facebook. That is how the masqueraders saw the clip and felt offended. They called me and said they will use me as a scapegoat because actors are used to ridiculing masquerades, which are their gods.”

The actress said she has been begging them and also called other colleagues to beg them on her behalf, including Mr Latin, who is the president of their association, TAMPAN.

According to her, because she did not get any positive feedback, she decided to go on social media to voice out.

Ariyo noted that she was given seven more days to live and the ultimatum will expire tomorrow.

The distressed actress stressed that she has tried every available option to pacify the masqueraders.

She said, “Today is the sixth day and they vowed to kill me after seven days. I have spoken to many Yoruba monarchs to help me talk to them as well because it is their worldwide association that is angry with me; their global platform.

“I recently got a call from their leader, who identified himself as Prince. He told me that he will speak to their public relations officer to direct all their members to desist from cursing me. I have the recordings of most of the threats and I wanted to go to the Commissioner of Police to file a complaint, but I was advised against it so that things do not escalate.

“They were not happy about the social media post and I was told to delete it, but I cannot because people would think this is a publicity stunt for the film. So, I cannot pull it down. I am sorry for the scene and I have even removed it from the film. I don’t want to die. They should forgive me, they should not do anything wicked to me or my colleagues.”

Iniubong Umoren: More Graves Uncovered As Angry Youths Vandalize Suspected Killer's Building.

According to Daily Post, more than twelve shallow graves have been uncovered in the compound of Mr. Uduak Akpan, the suspected killer of one Miss Iniubong Umoren, a graduate of philosophy in the guise of offering her a job in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

The suspect who is now cooling his feet at the police station in Ikot akpanabia, Uyo was alleged to have lured late Umoren to his place at Nnung Ikono Obio in Uruan Local Government Area of the State, raped, killed, and eventually buried her in a shallow grave in his father’s compound.

The youths of the community enraged with the news stormed the compound, and vandalised the building, using pebbles after setting ablaze the security house of the one storey building.

It was gathered that the vandalization started since on Tuesday night and its still ongoing as at press time even as it was alleged that the youths carted away property in the compound and handed the boy’s father(whom they accused of being an accomplice) to the police.

When some correspondents visited the scene, Wednesday evening, about twelve(12) shallow graves were seen in the large compound and a skeletal bone suspected to be that of a child lying on the floor was also seen. Also old sag bags were seen scattered near the graves as the youths who conducted journalists round the compound claimed that they were used for packing human parts they buried.

The youths said the suspect and his family are strangers living in the community as their real community is Nnung Ikono Ufok in Uruan LGA.

One of the youths identified as Akpan Shadrach James told journalists that the family of the suspect erected the building about four years ago and do not live there permanently but only come occasionally since they have another building in Uyo town and nobody actually knew what they do inside the compound.

“People thought that they were living here, they don’t, they only come and go. They are from the next community. They don’t have friends in this community as their gate is always closed and they wrote the notice, ‘beware of dogs’ on their wall. We didn’t know that such a thing was happening here.

“We want government to investigate this matter and bring justice to that slain orphan. We are grieved with this incident and we don’t want this matter swept under the carpet.”

Also speaking, the youths President of the community, Etubom Sunday Essien said the youths were disappointed over the act, adding that such offence is not condoned in the community.

He said, “there is nothing happening apart from the one you have already heard. It’s not good for the boy to kill his fellow human being. We don’t know that, that is what he has been doing. We, the youths will never allow such things to be happening in our community. That is the reason we took this action.

He, however, exonerated the chairman of the LGA, Mr. Iniobong Ekpenyong saying he played the role of a Chief security officer of council by calling on the police to arrest the culprit.

The Chairman of the local government had earlier issued a press release, distancing himself from insinuations of being party to the incident, stressing that he only did his job as the chief security officer of the local government by fishing out the suspect and handing him over to the police.
