The trio of Yinka Ajayi, Patience Okon-George and Margaret Bamgbose have qualified for the semi-finals of the 400m event at the ongoing 2017 IAAF World Championship in London.

Ajayi came third in Heat Two with a time of 51.58s behind Shaunae Miller Uibo from the Bahamas who clocked a time of 50.97s to finish first ahead of second-placed Stephenie Ann Mcpherson from Jamaica who completed the race with a time of 51.72s.

In Heat Five, Patience Okon-George came second with a time of 51.83s behind USA’s Quanera Hayes who won the race with a time of 51.43. Zoey Clark was third with a time of 51.88s.

Margaret Bamgbose came third in Heat Six with a time of 51.57s to qualify for the semis, finishing behind Jamaica’s Chrisann Gordon who clocked a time of 51.14 and Amantle Montsho from Botswana who had 51.37.

The trio will make history if they make it to the final to become the first time Nigeria will present three athletes in the final.

The last time Nigeria presented more than one finalist was when Fatimah Yusuf and Falilat Ogunkoya ran in the final of the event in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1995.
