Netflix has a brand-new Spanish thriller series called THE SNOW GIRL. title: The fresh-faced chick). When a 5-year-old girl goes missing during a holiday parade, the police and a very persistent journalist search for years for her. The story of the series goes on for more than nine years.

While the lost girl is mentioned in the title (in a way that will become clear), numerous other crimes and side stories are also discussed. This might be annoying to some, but I thought it fit the pace. Naturally, you are exposed to a rather gloomy and depressing worldview as a result of the terrible actions of numerous evil individuals.

In 2010, a festive scene serves as the backdrop for The Snow Girl's story. The annual Magi Parade, also known as the Three Wise Men Parade, is currently in full swing in Malaga. However, this magical time of year suddenly turns into a nightmare for the Martn family. In the vast crowd, their daughter Amaya vanishes and is never seen again.

Since Amaya Martn is only five years old, it stands to reason that this becomes a police investigation. Inspector Millán is in charge of the investigation and is doing everything in her power to locate the child. In the meantime, we follow trainee journalist Miren, who is focusing even more on this disappearance case than the police are.

Fortunately, Aixa Villagrán, who plays Inspector Millán, and Milena Smit, who plays Miren, an investigative journalist, are able to cooperate for the most part. When a VHS tape is sent to the journalist Miren six years after Amaya went missing, this becomes even more significant. A girl who appears to be a recent Amaya recording is shown on the tape.

Miren is forced to confront a terrible part of her past that she would rather forget while working on the Amaya case. She becomes even more focused on Amaya's case as a result of a brutal attack that she has no memory of but that haunts her constantly.

Miren receives assistance from Eduardo, her journalist colleague and mentor (Jose Coronado from Your Son / Tu Hijo). Especially since he is aware of the past that afflicts her and that she will not stop until Amaya Martn is discovered.

The story of The Snow Girl is told through numerous time jumps because it takes place over a good ten years. You won't get lost in the timelines because they are always clearly labeled, which is a good thing. We see how much the parents suffer over the years. also in a way that is significantly older than you would expect.

Amaya's mother is played by Loreto Mauleón (God's Crooked Lines, available on Netflix), and her father is played by Ral Prieto (The Silence of the Marsh). The physical strain of such a tragic loss of a daughter is obvious. However, it was encouraging to see them work together whenever they received news, particularly the VHS update.

Because they show the effects on many lives, the time jumps are effective. They aren't as good at wrapping up all of the little stories completely. However, life is what it is, and we will never know the answers to everything. even if we believe we must be aware.

It is essential that we also see people who are good in a series where many people, both men and women, are evil in the worst possible ways. Additionally, there are a lot of good men and women in our lives. Good is the journalist main character played by Milena Smit.
However, her moral compass has been somewhat tainted as a result of being forced to experience so much evil on her own body and while searching for Amaya. Is this undesirable? That is probably a question that can be answered by each individual in their own unique way.

Milena Smit, who co-starred with Pedro Almodóvar in Parallel Mothers, portrays the character as a soul-wounded individual, in my opinion. She tries to patch them up by focusing on helping other people, and we see that. It works very well for me, but I can imagine that not everyone would agree.

The story really does change a lot in the final two episodes by changing the perspective in one and reaching a clear conclusion to the main case in the other. Still, don't expect The Snow Girl to end in a happy and pretty way. It would be far too unrealistic to suddenly turn into a fairy tale in this story.

Netflix lets you watch The Snow Girl!
Jess Mesas Silva (Estoy vivo) and Javier Andrés Roig (Vis a vis) are the series' writers on Netflix. David Ulloa (Perdida) will be in charge of four episodes, and Laura Alvea (Nimas) will be in charge of two.

The novel "La chica de nieve" by Javier Castillo serves as the basis for "The Snow Girl." However, the story actually takes place in New York with American characters, where the girl goes missing during a Thanksgiving parade just three years later. The plot has been altered for this Netflix series adaptation.

However, since the author, Javier Castillo, was born in Málaga (Spain), it makes sense to change the setting of the story to Spain, with a Spanish family and a regional parade. Since I haven't read the book, I obviously don't know much about it, so maybe that's why I didn't mind this change. Both locations could easily play out the story.
Netflix will begin streaming The Snow Girl (La chica de nieve) on January 27, 2023.
