It looks like going back to the past and reviving things at the moment seems to be a theme. Previously, we've seen "Ghostbusters" and "The Predator" both having remakes, now we've got "Fantasy Island" coming back.

It was a show that began well back in 1977, with Ricardo Montalbán playing the enigmatic Mr. Roarke, together with his short but enthusiastic assistant Tattoo (pictured by Hervé Villecheize). The series saw the two guests who came to the island of the mystery give them a chance to live their dreams out, but it came at a price.

One of the iconic catchphrases from the show was when the plane arrived; Tattoo would shout, “Ze Plane! Ze Plane!” when the guests arrived. Mr. Roarke and Tattoo helped visitors achieve their fantasies; however, they usually would not pan out as they intended. Later seasons of “Fantasy Island” got more elaborate and started using the supernatural as a plot device, with Mr. Roarke even gaining special powers.

Now with Blumhouse Productions and Sony Pictures on the reboot, the film looks to take a more sinister turn to what the series was 40 years ago. With the horror specialists Blumhouse on board, this definitely won’t be the “Fantasy Island” you have seen before.

The new film will be directed by Jeff Wadlow, who directed the highly praised “Kick-Ass 2,” will also see him produce the project along with Jason Blum. There is also a new Mr. Roarke, with Michael Peña (“Ant-Man”) looking to make the character his own. There are also roles for Lucy Hale (“Truth Or Dare”), Kim Coates (“Goon”), and Jimmy O. Yang (HBO’s “Silicon Valley”).

Here is the synopsis:

A horror adaptation of the popular ’70s TV show about a magical island resort.

The project is scheduled for release on February 14 (Valentine’s Day) 2020. Below is a trailer for the original opening shot along with the new trailer, see what you think.
