Search for Julian Sands Resumed Over the Weekend, According to San Bernardino Sheriffs.

The San Bernardino Sheriff's Department says that five months after actor Julian Sands went missing while hiking on snowy Mt. Baldy in January, the search for him is still ongoing. on Monday, said

“The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department continued its ongoing search for Julian Sands, a missing hiker, on Saturday, June 17, 2023, in the Mount Baldy wilderness. Unfortunately, Mr. Sands was not located, according to a news release from the sheriffs.

Sands was a seasoned hiker, but this winter's extreme weather affected the Mt. Baldy region.

According to authorities, the June 17 search was carried out by over 80 volunteers, deputies, and staff, as well as two helicopter and drone crews. Inaccessible areas that ground crews were unable to access were also searched by drones.

According to the release, "multiple areas include steep terrain and ravines, which still have 10 plus feet of ice and snow" despite the warmer weather in recent months.

Sands, best known for his roles in "Warlock" and "A Room with a View," was reported missing on January 13. He had been hiking about 50 miles northeast of Los Angeles in the Baldy Bowl hiking area.

Over 500 volunteer hours have been spent on eight ground and air searches for him by local sheriffs since then.

Sherriffs stated, "Mr. Sands' missing person case remains active, and limited search efforts will continue."

Videos of helicopters participating in the search efforts were posted on Twitter by the San Bernardino County Sheriff.

The actor’s brother, Nick Sands, told the BBC in January that he had already said his goodbyes. “I have come to terms with the fact he’s gone and for me that’s how I’ve dealt with it,” he said. The 65-year old actor’s wife has not spoken out since she reported him missing, but his son Henry told The Times UK in April that he was “of course, realistic” about the impact of the severe weather on the search.
