The conflict came from the intercommunal violence in Mandatory Palestine between Israelis and Arabs from 1920 and erupted into full-scale hostilities in the 1947–48 civil war.
I disagree strongly with the article's claim that the land being fought for "originally" belonged to Israel. For the nearly two thousand years since the destruction of Jerusalem to the 20th century, there were no Jewish states in Palestine. Land claims don't work that way, you don't justify driving out an area's inhabitants because your ancestors lived there two millennia ago. If the Bible is anything to go by, don't the descendants of the Canaanites that were mass murdered by the Hebrews have the right to make this same inept claim?Palestinian Arabs didn't drive the Jews out, armies of empires did. Israel is using force to take this land and I don't think any thinking Zionist justifies this land grabbing by "my ancestors lived here a long, long, long, long, time ago".
