A petition has been started to stop the singer Ọlawale Ọlọfọrọ, also known as Brymo, from winning the All Africa Music Award, AFRIMA, for which he was a nominee, following his tweets about the Igbo tribe.

Due to the agitation for Biafra, the singer had been criticized for stating that an Igbo presidency would only be a "pipe dream."

Brymo maintained his position despite criticism from fellow celebrities and fans, expressing regret for his “anti-Igbo” comments.

Brymo was nominated for the All Africa Music Award in the "Song Writer of the Year" category alongside singers from other African nations in November 2022.

Several Nigerians have signed a petition to prevent the singer from winning the award as voting for the category continues.

The petition noted that the singer's rejection of the award would send a strong message due to his "hateful messages" directed at Igbos.

“Brymo recently put up a series of hateful messages on Twitter toward the Igbo tribe of Nigeria, going as far as retweeting a tweet which said that all Igbos are senseless,” reads the petition, which was started by Charles Ogundele.

“He wrote, "f*ck omo Igbo," which translates to "f*ck the Igbo people," in one of his tweets.

In Nigeria, a nation that is multicultural, his actions are ones that incite animosity and division.

"It would send a strong message to him and people like him that he can't get away with such blatant ethnic bigotry to prevent him from winning the All Africa Music Award."

The petition still had more than 2,800 signatures at the time of this report's submission.
