Yesterday, youths of Ijede local council development area in Lagos embarked on a rally as members of various cult groups including Eiye and Aiye confraternities – denounced their membership in the presence of the traditional rulers and security operatives.

At the Alajede Palace, the Chairman seized the opportunity to inform the general public of the zeal and determination of the youths of the community to completely jettison cultism. He added that the repentant youths confided in him to desist from violence and any form of thuggery and hooliganism.

The Regent of Ijede, Chief Musediku therefore urged Chief Ademuyiwa Jamiu (Odofin of Ijede) to pray for the council and Ijede LCDA at large.

In the same spirit of celebration of success, the convoy of the Chairman and the good people of Ijede advanced to the Palace of Obateru of Egbin where the Royal father applauded the Chairman for his laudable works within his short time in office.

The Kabiyesi, HRM Oba (Dr.) Abdulakeem Adeoriyomi Oyebo enjoined the youths to keep to their words to refrain from cultism. He further affirmed that the 7years tussle between Ijede and Egbin has been laid to rest. He therefore sued for peaceful coexistence and charity among the two communities.

The august occasion was rounded off at the Council Secretariat where the four walls of the big Canopy was full to capacity.

The repentant Cultists surrendered all the ammunitions in their possession to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Mr Edgar Imohimi in the Presence of Hon Babajimi Benson, MHR and Hon Nurudeen Sholaja, to affirm their commitment in renouncing cultism and everything attached to it.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Edgar Imohimi in company of several DPOs gladly received their surrendered ammunitions and promised to facilitate laudable vocational training and empowerment schemes that will rehabilitate them before they are reintegrated into the society. He was so affirmative that history has been made in Ijede LCDA with the development and urged other communities to emulate such.

The repentant cultists affirmed their decision and determination never to return to it. This was stated through the heads of various fraternity (KK, Eiye, Aiye, etc). When one of our correspondents quizzed them on what led them into cultism, they affirmed that land boundary issues turned them to menace in the society with the use of various weapons they were equipped with by their sponsors. They therefore pledged never to return to their horrible lifestyle.
