A suspect who is alleged to have brutally murdered a man in a hotel room in Ogun state has been identified by CCTV footage.

A hotel in Orile-Imo, in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, housed the body of the deceased, who could only be identified as Segun.

On Saturday, January 7, 2023, he had stayed in the hotel with another man who is believed to have killed him.

Punch reports that the suspect fled early on Sunday, January 8, after allegedly striking the victim in the head with a sharp object.

When one of the hotel employees went to clean the room, they discovered his lifeless body.

The incident was said to have been reported by the hotel's management to the Isiun Police Division, which transported the body to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital mortuary.

The publication was able to observe the hotel's Closed-Circuit Television camera, which captured the moment Segun and the unidentified suspect entered the establishment.

Before paying for a room at the reception, it was observed that the deceased and the suspect talked in the hotel bar.

A facial injury left the deceased, who was dressed in a black jacket, with swelling in his left eye. The victim made an ongoing effort to shield his face from the CCTV camera.

The publication was informed by a source that Segun fought criminals at a party in the Owode Egba area.

"At the point when the fight was getting serious, he left the location. In fact, when he left the party, those boys were still looking for him there. The source stated, "I am sure he came to lodge at the hotel so he could hide from the criminals."

A relative of the deceased, who only went by the name Tolu and claimed to have observed the body before it was buried on Monday, January 9, stated that the deceased had a deep cut in his head.

Additionally, the relative asserted that the suspect stole the deceased's phone, which was seen with him in the CCTV footage.

He stated, "They gave him about N250,000 belonging to Segun when our family head went to a police station." They informed him that N50,000 and N200,000 were found in his back pocket and in a bag he was carrying.

"Only his phone was taken by the suspect; He did not deplete the funds. This demonstrates that his primary goal was only to kill him. He struck Segun in the head, I believe, as a result of their argument.

"His remains were buried in his home in Abeokuta; We don't even know who was behind our brother's death, which is really heartbreaking.

However, a hotel executive who spoke on the condition of anonymity said that based on the CCTV footage, it was possible that the victim was unwell when he arrived at the hotel.

He also said that the management and the police were working together to catch the suspect.

He responded, "I believe the guy escaped probably when there was a power outage and we were trying to put on the generator," when asked how the suspect escaped without being captured on CCTV. You can see that the CCTV works around the clock here; We won't even know who the suspect is unless we see the video."
