The students were protesting over strike embarked on by their lecturers as a result of the ownership crisis rocking the institution co-owned by Osun and Oyo state governments The students who blocked the Olaiya junction carried placards with inscriptions such as "Safe LAUTECH, Save our future", "Ogbeni Rauf answer our calls", "Aregbe you are the reason why Jesus wept", "LAUTECH must arise again", "This is not the change we voted for", “Change is a scam”, among others. The students said the varsity has been facing problems because of political instability for many years which had caused many students and staff serious life deterioration. They said since the assumption of the current government led by Mr Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state and his Oyo state counterpart, Gov. Isiaka Ajimobi, LAUTECH has degraded in value, norms and standard due to political instability and poor funding caused by the two governors. "After a 9 month strike action embarked by the school unions, due to the non-released of monthly subventions, the Governors are yet to stay alive to their responsibilities as the founding fathers. "The entire students of LAUTECH have come together in solidarity to cry out to the governor for quick intervention because many atrocities ranging from students committing suicide, social vices and workers turning to beggars amongst others have engulfed the citadel," the students said.
