How to block Google Chrome popups
on: June 28, 2020, 04:13:49 AM

How to block Google Chrome popups. Almost everyone is annoyed and is looking for a way to block pop-ups on Google Chrome. Google Chrome is the most popular web browser right now with around 70% of the browser segment’s market share.

Web technologies and websites are gradually evolving with a new set of problems that the vast majority of users face.

Content is no longer limited to text only. Websites that display videos, newsletters, a user’s email lists, track users with cookies, alert readers to new news, and more.

In the meantime, Google continues to add new measures to Chrome to make the web experience simple for the end-user.

Websites may want to send more content to the reader, but sometimes they send a lot and the end-user may be overwhelmed by the irrelevant forced content.

You may have seen websites asking for permission to send push notifications, automatically run videos below, pop-up cookies, notifications from other apps, and more.

Luckily, Google Chrome has added the necessary measures to block annoying pop-ups and ads. In this post, we will guide you on five best ways to block pop-ups in Google Chrome on Windows and Mac.

The best ways to block Google Chrome popups

When you install Google Chrome for the first time, you will be asked for permission to send notifications on Mac. If you mainly use Google Chrome for light, Reddit, and YouTube web browsing, I strongly recommend that you disable notifications from the beginning.

You can touch “Do not allow” notifications from the beginning to disable Chrome notifications.

Disable pop-ups and redirects on Chrome

When I visit a website, do I see unnecessary help, support, or advertising pop-ups? You can disable the behavior from the browser settings. Google Chrome also allows you to disable redirects from one website to another.

Follow the steps below to disable pop-ups and redirects

- Open Google Chrome on your Mac or Windows.
- Tap the three-button menu at the top and go to Settings.
- Go to Privacy and security> Site settings.
- A Site Settings menu will open, scroll down to the Permissions> Popup, and redirects option.
- Disable the Pop-up and redirects option.
- If you wish, you can allow specific sites to allow pop-ups and redirects.

Disable notifications from sites

You must have encountered a situation when a site asks you to send notifications in the future. If you accidentally hit the allow option, you will receive a notification on every post that the website loads and updates. It is definitely not an experience that a user is looking for when browsing the web.

You can respectfully deny permission to notify. You can disable this behavior from the Google Chrome Settings. Follow the steps below to disable site notification requests in the  Google Chrome browser.

- Open Google Chrome and touch the three-dot menu at the top.
- Go to Privacy and security> Site settings> Notifications.
- From the side menu, disabling the Sites can ask to send the notification option.

From now on, the sites will not show the pop-up to send you notifications.
