Speaking at the State House after a federal executive council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday, Ekpo highlighted Tinubu’s commitment to expanding the use of CNG, which he described as safer, more affordable, and environmentally friendly compared to traditional fuels. “We are aware that the president has established a presidential committee on CNG, and he has charged us to ensure that most filling stations across the country are converted into CNG stations,” Ekpo said. He added that the government will facilitate access to conversion kits to enable Nigerians to adapt their vehicles to run on CNG. Ekpo emphasized the significant savings offered by CNG, stating that while a litre of petrol can cost as much as N1,000, CNG is available at N200 per standard cubic meter, representing a substantial cost reduction. The push for CNG aligns with Tinubu's recent comments that Nigerians can choose between buying petrol at N1,000 per litre or adopting CNG at N200 per standard cubic meter. Ekpo concluded by expressing confidence in the government's efforts to drive the CNG initiative to every part of the country, allowing Nigerians to benefit from the abundant natural gas resources available.
