The faction of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) led by Tajudeen Baruwa has assumed control of the union’s national secretariat.

The takeover happened early Monday as members of the faction stormed the union’s headquarters in Abuja.

The NURTW factions led by Baruwa and Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, have been involved in an internal leadership tussle since 2024.

Members of the NURTW had elected MC Olumo as National President in November 2024.

However, the court ruled in favor of Baruwa when the dispute led to a lawsuit.

Despite the court ruling, MC Olumo has continued to operate as President.

MC Oluomo’s Portraits Were Destroyed As Baruwa-Led NURTW Faction Takes Over National Office. A faction of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), led by its factional president Tajudeen Baruwa, has seized control of the union’s national secretariat.

Recall that the NURTW has been engulfed in an internal crisis over the last two years, following a delegates’ conference expected to produce new leadership.

Notwithstanding the tussle, All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Musiliu Akinsanya, better known as MC Oluomo, has continued to occupy the National Secretariat.

However, the Baruwa-led faction took over the secretariat on Monday, as members of the faction were seen in a viral video removing and destroying MC Oluomo’s portraits.
