President Muhammadu Buhari again on Friday met behind closed doors with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The meeting was the second one between the two leaders since the allegation of budget padding levelled against the Speaker and some principal officers by the former Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin, started.

Unlike the first meeting penultimate Friday when he was accompanied by Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives), Suleiman Kawu, the Speaker came for the Friday meeting in company with some senators from his state, Bauchi.

Some of those who accompanied him were Senator Sulaiman Nazif and Senator Abubakar Tugga.

They were also joined by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu; and a former Minister of Police Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Lame, both of who are also from Borno State.

Dogara did not disclose the purpose of his visit when approached by State House correspondents.

He said he would not talk because “I am on holiday.”

When asked when he would resume, Dogara said journalists were present when the House of Representatives adjourned.

When further asked if his visit was part of efforts aimed at mending fences with the President, the Speaker pointed to one of the lawmakers that accompanied him and said, “This man is a Senator from Bauchi State. He is not from the House of Representatives.”

Dogara had, after his first meeting with Buhari, told State House correspondents that he would not resign to pave way for thorough investigation of the allegations as being canvassed by some individuals and groups.

He said with his experience as a lawyer and a federal lawmaker of many years, he had never heard padding as being an offence under the law.
