It was gathered that the incident occurred around 8am. The cause of the fire could not be ascertained at the time of this report, but Officer-in-Charge of the Fire Prevention Department of the Imo State Fire Service, Francis Ekeocha, said the fire started from the power house. Ekeocha said, “We responded to the distress call and put out the fire. The actual cause of the fire had yet to be ascertained, but it started from the power house. “Two generators were destroyed, including electric wires, doors and windows. “However, no casualty was recorded, only valuables estimated at millions of naira were lost to the fire.” However, the prompt response of Imo State Fire Service prevented the inferno from spreading to surrounding buildings. The proprietor of the hotel, Dennis Okoroafor, told Punch that the hotel would be shut down immediately. “I don’t know the actual cause of the outbreak because I was woke from sleep. “We have lost millions to the fire. We are shutting down immediately and it would last for days. “Apart from the property we lost, which are worth millions, no human casualty was recorded. No guest was affected. “We are shutting down immediately to enable us bounce back better,” Okoroafor said. Source - dailypost
