THE Governor of Niger State, Abubakar Bello, on Sunday said that the Peoples Democratic Party lacked the moral right to govern Nigeria again, after its 16 years of plundering the treasury.

Bello said this at an All Progressives Congress rally ahead of the forthcoming local government election.

The governor added that the PDP embezzled funds meant for arms purchase.

“One cannot comprehend how they (PDP) felt comfortable with such money when our soldiers were dying fighting insurgents in the North-East,” Bello said.

At the state level, Bello said the level of development in Niger did not correspond with the billions of naira given to the state by the Federal Government in the last eight years.

“It is sad that a lot of money sent to the state was mismanaged by the last administration,” the governor lamented.

He alleged that after embezzling the state’s funds, some members of the last administration went ahead to loot money that was meant for civil servants who had meritoriously served the state and retired.

Governor Bello said that the government had started arresting some of the people that embezzled money in the last administration.

The governor said that state civil servants decided to opt out of the new pension scheme because it was not favourable to them.

Welcoming over 6,000 defectors from the PDP to the APC, the governor commended their decision to dump the opposition party, “especially now that the APC was rebuilding the government.”
