The Lagos State Police Command on Thursday said that the scary story that a car bomb was planted at a bank in Anthony Village in the metropolis was untrue. The command’s spokeswoman, DSP Patricia Amadin, said in a statement that the command was informed of the incident on Wednesday Aug. 12 at about 7 a.m.

“The Lagos State Police Command refutes the news of an intention to bomb a bank in Anthony area of Lagos. “On Wednesday at about 0700 hours, the command was awakened by the news of a vehicle laden with Improvised Explosive Device (IED) suspiciously parked within the premises of GTBank, Anthony Village Branch.

“Upon receipt of the distress call, the Police swung into action. The vehicle and the premises were scanned by the Police Bomb Disposal Unit. “Thereafter, the vehicle was towed to Anthony Village Police Station.

“The vehicle owner, one Mrs Ronke Dawodu, later surfaced and stated that she was driving home in her car with her children when the car developed a mechanical fault,’’ the statement said.
It advised the public to continue to report suspicious movements and developments around them to assist the police in ridding the state of crime. The statement, however, did not disclose if the car had been released the owner.
