APC Accuses Gov. Adeleke of Fueling Political Violence in Osun

• Demands Urgent Intervention by IGP, DSS, NSCDC and Other Security Agencies

A World Press Conference Addressed by the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osun State Chapter today, 10th June, 2026, at the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Office, Ogo-Oluwa, Osogbo, Osun State.

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned in the strongest possible terms the growing culture of intimidation, harassment, brigandage and violence being perpetrated by criminal elements acting under the influence and protection of the ruling party in the state.

The main opposition party charged Governor Ademola Adeleke to call his suspected political foot soldiers, janjaweed and thugs to order before they plunge Osun State into a deeper state of insecurity and make the state increasingly ungovernable.

The APC called for immediate intervention of the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and all other relevant security agencies to urgently stem the rising tide of political violence in Osun State.

The party, at a press conference in Osogbo on Wednesday, jointly addressed by the APC Director General for the 2026 Governorship Campaign Council, Hon. Oluwole Oke, APC Deputy Governorship Candidate, Engr Benjamin Adereti, former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Adebayo Adeleke and National Commissioner, Federal Civil Service representing Osun and Oyo states, Dr Festus Oyebade Olowogboyega, urged the international community, election observers, civil society organisations and defenders of democracy to pay close attention to developments in Osun State and hold accountable all those who seek to undermine democratic values through violence, intimidation and political persecution.

Hon. Oke also appealed to the good spirited citizens and organizations to impress it on Governor Adeleke to surrender the thugs and criminals his government are allegedly harbouring in the Government House and other places.

"Only yesterday, Tuesday, June 9, 2026, campaign buses belonging to the APC were attacked and vandalized by suspected PDP/Accord hoodlums in the Owode-Ede area. The attack left several AMBO supporters injured while campaign materials and other valuable property were destroyed.

"Such brazen acts of violence have no place in a democratic society and should alarm every well-meaning citizen of Osun State. It is important to note that Owode-Ede has, in recent years, gained notoriety as a flashpoint for politically-motivated attacks against members of our party.

"The public would recall that in 2022, the wife of the former Governor of Osun State, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola, was attacked in the same area while serving as the First Lady of the state. The recurrence of violent incidents in the community raises serious concerns about the activities of criminal elements who appear emboldened by the absence of firm action from those in authority.

"Why should the electoral preference of a citizen become a criminal offence? Why should supporters of a political party be subjected to violence merely for exercising their constitutional rights? Why should a governor, either directly or through body language, create an atmosphere that emboldens supporters and kinsmen to attack fellow citizens because they hold contrary political opinions?

"Even more disturbing are reports that one of Governor Adeleke's appointees, Nurudeen Alowonle, who was arrested with a firearm and ammunition two years ago and remains wanted by law enforcement authorities, led in Osogbo yesterday a band of armed thugs in violent confrontations against a breakaway faction of his own group.

"Governor Adeleke-branded buses were reportedly seen conveying questionable characters brandishing dangerous weapons and firing gunshots in public spaces. Available information suggests that the crisis stems from growing dissatisfaction with Alowonle's leadership among members of the faction.

"Unfortunately, innocent citizens have suffered injuries in the ensuing violence, while law-abiding residents continue to live in fear as criminal elements linked to the PDP and Accord Party turn parts of Osogbo into theatres of violence and lawlessness", the Campaign Council added.

RISING WAVE OF POLITICAL VIOLENCE IN OSUN: GOVERNOR ADELEKE MUST CALL HIS THUGS TO ORDER BEFORE MAKING THE STATE MORE UNGOVERNABLE

Text of a World Press Conference Address by the All Progressives Congress (APC), Osun State Chapter on 10th June, 2026, at the Tinubu/Shettima Campaign Office, Ogo-Oluwa, Osogbo, Osun State

Gentlemen of the Press,

1. We have called this World Press Conference to draw the attention of the people of Cisun State, Nigerians and the international community to the alarming rise in politically-motivated violence across our state, targeted primarily at innocent citizens and supporters of our governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO).

2. The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) condemns in the strongest possible terms the growing culture of intimidation, harassment, brigandage and violence being perpetrated by criminal elements acting under the influence and protection of the ruling party in the state.

3. Governor Ademola Adeleke must immediately call his political foot soldiers, janjaweed and thugs to order before they plunge Osun State into a deeper state of insecurity and make the state increasingly ungovernable.

4. Only yesterday, Tuesday, June 9, 2026, campaign buses belonging to the APC were attacked and vandalized by suspected PDP/Accord hoodlums in the Owode-Ede area. The attack left several AMBO supporters injured while campaign materials and other valuable property were destroyed.

5. Such brazen acts of violence have no place in a democratic society and should alarm every well-meaning citizen of Osun State.

6. It is important to note that Owode-Ede has, in recent years, gained notoriety as a flashpoint for politically-motivated attacks against members of our party.

7. The public would recall that in 2022, the wife of the former Governor of Osun State, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola, was attacked in the same area while serving as the First Lady of the state.

8. The recurrence of violent incidents in the community raises serious concerns about the activities of criminal elements who appear emboldened by the absence of firm action from those in authority.

9. Why should the electoral preference of a citizen become a criminal offence? Why should supporters of a political party be subjected to violence merely for exercising their constitutional rights? Why should a governor, either directly or through body language, create an atmosphere that emboldens supporters and kinsmen to attack fellow citizens because they hold contrary political opinions?

10. Even more disturbing are reports that one of Governor Adeleke's appointees, Nurudeen Alowonle, who was arrested with a firearm and ammunition two years ago and remains wanted by law enforcement authorities, led in Osogbo yesterday a band of armed thugs in violent confrontations against a breakaway faction of his own group.

11. Governor Adeleke-branded buses were reportedly seen conveying questionable characters brandishing dangerous weapons and firing gunshots in public spaces.

12. Available information suggests that the crisis stems from growing dissatisfaction with Alowonle's leadership among members of the faction.

13. Unfortunately, innocent citizens have suffered injuries in the ensuing violence, while law-abiding residents continue to live in fear as criminal elements linked to the PDP and Accord Party turn parts of Osogbo into theatres of violence and lawlessness.

14. The Osun State APC commiserates with all innocent citizens who have lost loved ones, sustained injuries, or suffered the destruction of their property and personal belongings as a result of the violent disturbances recorded in Osogbo, Ife and other affected communities.

15. Our thoughts and prayers are with every victim and every family affected by these unfortunate incidents.

16. We hereby appeal to the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Department of State Services, the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and all other relevant security agencies to urgently stem the rising tide of political violence in Osun State.

17. We specifically call for a thorough investigation into the attack on the the destruction of APC campaign buses in Owode-Ede, attack on our member in Ile Ife and the violent disturbances witnessed across Osogbo yesterday.

18. Those found culpable, irrespective of their political affiliations or connections, should be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

19. Specifically, we want to call on Governor Ademola Adeleke to rise above crude partisanship by distancing himself from political thugs being harboured by him.

20. There is a particular case of one of the Governor's Appointee, Olalekan Emir Ajagungbade, who is on the wanted-list of the Police.

21. Emir Ajagungbade was standing trial for murder, kidnapping, terrorism and armed robbery. Unfortunately, after a bail was arranged for him the state government, the criminal suspect has jumped bail and refused to continue with his trial in court.

22. But strangely, this same Emir Ajagungbade is being housed in the Osun State Government House.

23. Why is Governor Adeleke housing a criminal suspect in the Government House?
24. The case is similar to those of brutal killings of a Chieftain of our party, Hon. Remi Abass who, until his death in February 2025, was the Chairman of frewole Local Government.

25. Hon. Remi Abass was bludgeoned to death right inside the premises of the local government in Ikire by suspects linked to the Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Lere Oyewumi.

26. As we speak, an Appointee of Governor Adeleke, who was arraigned for the murder of Hon. Abass, Mr Jide Joda, has jumped bail and has been declared wanted by the Police. Jide Joda is an Appointee of Governor and also close associate of Senator Lere Oyewumi. Sadly, both Governor Adeleke and Senator Lere Oyewumi have not done anything to produce this murder suspect.

27. Similarly, in the same Ikire in February 2023, a Treasurer of our party in Ward 9, Saheed Oyegunju, was gruesomely murdered by thugs loyal to Senator Lere Oyewumi. Till date, the two murder access have been been frustrated and swept under the carpet by powers-that-be in Accord party.

28. We state unequivocally that No political office is worth the blood of any citizen.

29. The people of Osun State deserve peace, security and a level playing field as preparations intensify for the forthcoming governorship election.

30. The APC remains committed to lawful political engagement and will continue to mobilize support peacefully across every community in the state despite the provocations and intimidation being orchestrated by agents of violence.

31. We urge the international community, election observers, civil society organisations and defenders of democracy to pay close attention to developments in Osun State and hold accountable all those who se ek to undermine democratic values through violence, intimidation and political persecution.

32. The good spirited citizens and organizations should impress it on Governor Adeleke to surrender the thugs and criminals his government are harbouring in the Government House and other places.

33. We thank you, gentlemen of the press, for your attention and continued commitment to truth, justice and democratic accountability.

Signed:

The Director-General of the APC Campaign Council, Hon. Oluwole Wole Oke
