The news that Stellenbosch FC midfielder Oshwin Andries was murdered on Saturday has saddened the football community in South Africa.

Reports claim that Andries, a 19-year-old captain of the national U20 team, was stabbed to death.

When he was just starting out, Andries, who was born in Stellenbosch, made eight appearances for his club in the DStv Premiership.

In a 3-1 victory over the Orlando Pirates, where he scored his first goal, he was regarded as a player with a bright future.
