Argentine outlet Clarin then announced that Maradona had passed away later on Wednesday. The operation was successful, but just weeks later, Maradona passed away. ESPN Argentina and TyC Sports have reported the story. Journalist Cesar Luis Merlo claims that Maradona was attempting to revive the doctors. But the devastating news, it seems, is unfortunately true: football has lost one of its most iconic stars. At the 1986 World Cup finals in Mexico, Maradona was most famous for motivating Argentina to glory. In 1987 and 1990, the legendary forward also led the unfashionable Napoli to two Serie A titles. After Maradona retired in 1997, he went into coaching and managed the Argentina national team between 2008-2010. He was in charge of Gimnasia de La Plata at the time of his untimely and tragic death.
