 Sheikh Musa Lukwa, a Sokoto-based cleric, on Tuesday led his followers to observe Eid prayers despite the directive by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar. DAILY POST recalls that the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, under the leadership of the Sultan of Sokoto, had on Monday night declared that fasting would continue on Tuesday as the crescent moon could not be sighted. The Sultan declared Wednesday as the first of Shawwal and Eid day, which would commemorate the completion of the 2024 Ramadan fast. The Saudi Arabian authorities had also announced Wednesday for the celebration of the 2024 Eid-el-fitr. But Sheikh Lukwa, who has over the years disobeyed the Sultan’s directive on moon sighting, led prayers at his Juma’at mosque on Tuesday morning. Lukwa claimed that the moon of Shawwal was sighted in neighbouring Niger Republic on Monday night. “There were reports of sightings of the new crescent in many places, including here in Nigeria, but the one that we were sure of is that of Niger Republic. “We have a verified video clip of their Council of Ulamah authenticating the report after which the country declared Tuesday as Sallah day. So it is now binding on us to observe Eid on Tuesday because this is what the teachings of the Holy Prophet says. “If we can accept that of Saudi Arabia, why can’t we agree with that of Niger Republic which is nearer to us? “I am not saying all Nigerian Muslims must observe their Eid prayerson Tuesday but we have no moral justification not to observe our prayer on Tuesday because the new moon was sighted by our neighbors. And remember there is no fasting on Sallah day, it is prohibited,” he said. DAILY POST recalls that the cleric had in 2022 disobeyed the directive of the Sultan on the moon sighting and led Muslims in Sokoto State for Eid prayers on a contrary date.

 A man has been dragged to court by his daughter, accusing him of sleeping with her. Alhaji Mashood of Olorunsogo area, Bode Saadu, Moro local Government Area of Kwara State was brought before the Upper Àrea Court in the town by her daughter for allegedly having s3xual intercourse with her. The complainant, Simbiat Moshood, in a direct complaint, alleged that the accused had been having s3xual intercourse with her with a threat to jail or kill her if she exposed it to anybody. “The act has become my father’s habit, I am his only daughter and that is why my mother has refused to return home after they divorced,” the complaint said. “My father’s second wife had once caught us in the act and do make jest of me and alleging ritualistic activity,” the sheet added. Counsel to the accused, Barrister Toyin Onaolapo, prayed the court to grant his client bail. Magistrate Abdul Yekeen in his ruling on the matter, granted the accused bail and adjourned the case to April 15, 2024.

 In what has been a rather exciting day for fans of hip hop (courtesy of J. Cole’s surprise drop), Pharrell Williams has quietly released his surprise album, VIRGINIA: Black Yacht Rock Vol. 1. Boasting lush guitar arrangements and intricate stacks of vocal harmonies, the 10-track mystery album is available for free download here. While Pharrell himself has not announced or commented on the release of this project, the album is subtitled The City of Limitless Access and seems to be Pharrell’s spin on the yacht rock genre from the early 1970s, which was a hallmark of luxury, affluence, and sophistication. This is perfectly in line with Pharrell’s status as a high fashion icon and founder of Billionaire Boys Club, and of course, his current role as the creative director of Louis Vuitton.  What is also interesting is the nature of this drop, which so far is not available for streaming on regular platforms. This move comes at an interesting juncture in time, with conversations around streaming pay-outs and alternative models in the music marketplace gaining momentum. From James Blake’s exclusive subscriber based releases to La Russel’s partnership with Even.biz to sell music directly to fans, the industry is visibly reiterating artist-consumer relationships. In this light, Pharrell’s latest drop, too, is likely focused on furthering direct access to fans with a free treat and a subscription form underneath.

 Nigerian socialite, Cubana Chiefpriest has revealed the amount singer Davido spent to acquire a Bombardier 7500 jet. In a post on social media, Cubana claimed Davido spent a staggering $75 million to acquire the jet. Cubana took to his Instagram page to make the announcement after the singer had also spoken about the purchase.

 Lil Wayne and Young Thug have had a complicated history, to say the least. Despite Thug showing love to Wayne early on and them doing music together earlier on in Thug’s Cash Money days, things got turbulent around Wayne’s fallout with Stunna, with Wayne going at him and Thug refusing to go back and forth with his "idol.”. When Jimmy Carlton Winfrey, Thug’s tour manager, got arrested for shooting at Lil Wayne’s bus, it seemed the relationship would be done forever, but that hasn’t been the case. Tonight, the two pair up once again for a new song called ‘Bless’, which is produced by Wheezy and is what was being teased in the Weezy Vs. Wheezy campaign on social media, in line with WrestleMania XL this weekend.

 BAGHEAD is a horror movie that could relatively easily have been a new cult horror movie. Hell, it could’ve been a new huge horror franchise. It still might be, but this isn’t the best start. The plot screams supernatural horror in all the right ways and the vibe is eerie and creepy in ways that get under your skin. Yet somehow, it takes a few wrong turns or doesn’t continue down the right path and it falls short of its own brilliant potential. Sometimes, seeing a movie that could’ve been great be just okay is even worse than just watching a bad horror movie. This is not bad, but it could (and should) have been so much better! In Baghead, it all begins when Iris’s estranged father (Peter Mullan) dies. This is when Iris (Freya Allan), who has just been kicked out of her home, learns she has inherited a centuries-old pub. It’s run-down and located in Berlin, so she goes there immediately. Quick side note: The location of Berlin made no sense to me as everything about it screams old England. It’s a pub, of course, it feels British. The real issue is that most of the characters involved are also native English speakers of some kind. Of course, when realizing German production money is involved, there’s an incentive to place it in Berlin. In any case, Iris goes to Berlin and meets The Solicitor (Ned Dennehy) to sign a piece of paper that makes the estate hers. What she learns next is that once the deed is signed, she is tied to an unspeakable entity residing in the basement of the pub. This is where “Baghead” lives. A shape-shifting creature that can transform into a deceased person. The pub isn’t actively a pub, but it does make a lot of money from Baghead. People pay two thousand (euros, pounds, who knows?!) in cash for two minutes with the creature. Being permanently down on her luck, Iris does exactly what her father did. She’s more than tempted to exploit the creature’s powers, she’s depending on it to make a living. Also, being able to help desperate people – for a price – isn’t the worst way to make a living. However, there was that rule of using the Baghead creature for just two minutes. And Iris will soon learn what happens when you break the two-minute rule. For Iris, this is very much a “learning on the job”-ordeal. She learns of the creature when Neil (Jeremy Irvine) shows up and begs to be a customer. In fact, he will pay whatever Iris says. Neil has lost his wife and just wants to say goodbye. Of course, this is where any horror fan will know that there’s probably more to Neil’s request to speak with his wife. And there is. But you’ll have to see for yourself. Along with Iris, we see her best friend Katie (Ruby Barker). And I have to also mention that their relationship and connection to one another is never fully defined in this movie. Another element that could and should have been explored for just a few minutes to help us understand why Katie helps so much. I mean, the way they treat one another and seem financially connected feels more like siblings or lovers, but nothing is clearly defined. It’s a shame. Especially as Iris is struggling to control Baghead and avoid that it destroys them. Along with Freya Allan (The Witcher) in the lead role, we see wonderful actors in small key roles. These include Saffron Burrows (You) as Iris’ mom, Julika Jenkins (Dear Child), and Svenja Jung (Dark) as someone brought back from the dead. Watch Baghead on Shudder! This new Shudder horror movie is the full-length feature adaptation of director Alberto Corredor’s own short film. We’ve included the trailer for the feature film version and the original 2017 short film below. Click here to watch the trailer for the Baghead short film. I can easily understand why Baghead has been selected to be part of the Shudder’s “Halfway to Halloween”. It’s an annual, monthlong horror-thon lineup taking place in April. After all, this is six months before the Halloween month of October, so it marks the halfway mark to the spooky season. From an indie short to a feature film now on Shudder, is a great development and one that is deserved. Even if the full-length version falls short of its own awesome potential, it still has a great vibe and style. Baghead will debut on Shudder on Friday, April 5, 2024. Also available to stream on AMC+.

 Naira mutilation: EFCC confirms Bobrisky’s arrest, to charge crossdresser to court. Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have confirmed the arrest of Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, for allegedly spraying Naira notes. The Commission, in a statement via X on Thursday, said it invited the 31-year-old following a video report of spraying and flaunting wads of new Naira notes at the premiere of a movie, Ajakaju, produced by Eniola Ajao, a Nollywood actress and producer, at Film One Circle Mall, Lekki, Lagos on March 24, 2024. According to EFCC, investigation also revealed that he had committed the alleged offence at some other event centres and parties at different times. “Following the invitation by the Commission, he arrived at the Lagos Zonal Command of the EFCC on the morning of Wednesday, April 4, 2024, for interrogation and volunteered his statements. “He will soon be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations,” it said.
