Education / JAMB warns parents against enrolling minors for UTME

JAMB warns parents against enrolling minors for UTME

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned parents against enrolling minors for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede gave the warning while reacting to a suit filed by one Mrs. Ifeanyi Eke, against the Board, over alleged inappropriate text messages sent to her 15-year-old daughter during the course of her registration.

It would be recalled that Mrs. Eke has filed a N100m suit against JAMB and three others before the Federal High Court in Lagos over alleged unsolicited and inappropriate text messages sent to her 15-year-old daughter.

But in an interview with the press on Tuesday, Oloyede said the Board is ready to meet with the woman.

He maintained that the sender of the message was not its staff.

The Registrar further stated that since the incident happened, JAMB reported to the security agencies to take appropriate action but the woman did not care, and sued JAMB for N100 million.

He said, “The person is not our staff, he is not even a staff of the centre, he is a co-student. He is just like a candidate, an undergraduate in one of the Universities

“And talking about our data, nobody has access to our data. The person got the information from the phone of the underage girl.

“How was your girl of 15 years ready for University now? If she is law abiding as she claimed. The law today is that you must spend six years before primary school, six years in primary school and six years in secondary school. By that time, you are 18.

“But when you reduce three years, you must have cut corners to make a 15-year-old child ready for university education.

“We will meet her in court, it is for the court to decide whether she deserves that money.”

The JAMB boss maintained that the person got the telephone number of the victim at the center because they had a form to fill, saying that it has dealt appropriately with the center.

He continued, “even the centers do not have access to our database, the person must have collected the number while interacting with her at the center.

“We dealt with the center on negligence, for allowing unauthorized persons to have access to where these candidates were. And we are urging parents to allow their children to mature before registering for UTME.”

“We are now saying that any center that allows a parent to get near to where the candidates are being screened, that centre will be deleted.

“Parents cannot destroy the career of their children because of their emotions and indiscipline,” he added.

Entertainments / DJ Cuppy regrets saying yes to ex-fiance, Ryan Taylor
« Last post by Miss Ifeoluwa on March 11, 2024, 12:27:29 PM »

Nigerian disc jockey, Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy has said she had one of the worst years of her life last year because she didn’t say “No” often.

She particularly, regretted not saying “No” to her estranged fiance, Ryan Taylor.

Speaking at a recent function abroad, DJ Cuppy said she had now realised that it’s okay to say “No.”

She said, “One of the things I have learned is saying no. I had one of the worst years of my life last year because I couldn’t say no. I didn’t say no to opportunities that I should have said no to. I didn’t say no to a fiancé I should’ve said no to. I didn’t say no to taking things on.

“I was at the BBC; I had a morning breakfast show, then I was DJing, i was planning a wedding, I was in Oxford University. I burnt myself out. And none of us are either good to ourselves or other people when we burnt out. So, we have to deal with that guilt that comes with saying no. It’s okay to say no.”

DAILY POST recalls that Cuppy and Ryan parted ways in July 2023 barely seven months after their shocking engagement in November 2022.

Crime / How I escaped from kidnappers – Student narrates
« Last post by Miss Ifeoluwa on March 11, 2024, 12:22:57 PM »

One of the students kidnapped from Kuriga in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Mustapha Abubakar, has narrated how he escaped from his abductors.

He explained that while they were being moved by their captors, he stealthily hid in a shrub like a snake and escaped back home.

It was reported that the kidnapped children, both males and females, were between the ages of 5 and 18.

In an interview with BBC Hausa monitored in Kaduna on Monday, he said the bandits moved the children like a herd of cows, they trekked in the bush; sometimes crawled, adding that they were so thirsty that some of the girls were becoming weak and falling down due to tiredness but were put on motorcycles by the bandits.

He explained that the bandits ordered them to remove one of their clothes and lie down when a plane hovered above them, adding that they crossed a big river, drank the water and continued trekking.

He said the bandits ate leaves and wild fruits as they had nothing to eat.

According to him, “While we were moving, I noticed a shrub that was brown in colour, like my trouser. I hid inside and crawled like a snake. I was there until it was completely silent before I came out and headed to the bush.”

He added that he later met an old man who had difficulty walking and asked him the pathway to the main road or any close place so that he could get water to drink.

He said amid exhaustion, he pushed on as nightfall was approaching. After arriving Gayan, a community near theirs, he was able to escape back home.

SpyLoaded News / SSANU, NASU begin 7-day warning strike
« Last post by Miss Ifeoluwa on March 11, 2024, 12:21:10 PM »

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, and the Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU, have declared a 7-day warning strike to demand the payment of four months of withheld salaries of their members, following the 2022 nationwide strike.

The decision was part of the resolution of the joint action committee of the two unions, after a meeting which held in Akure at the weekend.

President of SSANU, Mohammed Ibrahim, made this known while reading the communiqué of the meeting to journalists in Abuja on Monday.

Ibrahim noted that the decision to embark on the warning strike was taken as a last resort since several protest letters and other communications with the Federal Government did not result in the payment of the withheld salaries.

The development followed the recent nationwide protests by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, over current economic hardship, which has led to high cost of living across the country.

Fans have long loved Future and Metro Boomin together, so when the two announced in April 2023 that a collaborative album was on the way, they became very enthusiastic.

The album's title and release date were disclosed in a trailer that the duo released tonight.

The LP is called We Don’t Trust You, a reference to the producer’s legendary tag which Future of course rapped. The trailer comes with a pair of release dates in March 22nd and April 12th, which has fans wondering if it’ll be a double album, or if the earlier date is for a single and the latter is for the album.

Check out the trailer below.

The song "act ii: date @ 8" by 4Batz has been getting a lot of attention lately, although the musician hasn't even done an interview yet. It has gained popularity quickly and is set to do so even more.

Drake has been promoting the official remix, which is currently available everywhere, for a few days now. Drizzy made an intriguing decision, but he is accustomed to listening to catchy tunes by up-and-coming musicians.

4batz has also been accused by fans of jacking RMR‘s style and appearance, but that conversation is for another day. Listen to the new remix below.

Anthony Joshua knocks out Francis Ngannou with vicious finish against former UFC heavyweight champion

With a devastating second-round finish, Anthony Joshua stopped Francis Ngannou to end any chance of a stunning upset and moved closer to becoming a three-time world champion on Friday.

In the first round, Joshua took down a stunned Ngannou with a strong right hand. In the second, he knocked down the former UFC heavyweight champion twice, leaving Ngannou unconscious.

It arrived as the most destructive knockout of Joshua’s career to follow up statement stoppages over Robert Helenius and Otto Wallin in reigniting his pursuit of another world title opportunity.

The prospective prize had featured prominently throughout the build-up in Saudi Arabia, with victory now expected to pave the way to a shot at the winner of Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk’s clash for the undisputed heavyweight championship.

"When I saw the fight with Fury, I thought damn, this guy could fight, I wanted a piece of that,” said Joshua post-fight.

"He's an inspiration, a great champion, and this shouldn't take away from his capabilities. He can come again. I told him he shouldn't leave boxing. He's two fights in, and he's fought the best.

"He can go a long way if he stays dedicated."

Joshua had cut a laser-focused figure all week amid all the pageantry and promises, maintaining that approach as he delivered a knockout clinic to hand Ngannou a ruthless exposure to the true world of heavyweight boxing.

Ngannou had arrived riding the momentum of a staggering debut performance against Fury back in October, his shock third-round knockdown in defeat to the WBC champion earning him another lucrative day between the ropes. As 4am approached in Saudi Arabia, Joshua was in no mood for further drama.

The former unified world champion paraded his superior speed during the opening exchanges when he left Ngannou on his backside with a bruising right hand to set the tone, asserting his authority behind feints to which the MMA-convert could find no read.

Joshua then punished Ngannou's southpaw stance in the second with a crashing right fist to put his opponent down again, before crowning the job seconds later with another shuddering right to leave his man out cold and in need of treatment on the canvas.

"Francis Ngannou beat the WBC heavyweight champion of the world - I should be WBC heavyweight champion of the world," joked Joshua. "He's a dreamer, a risk-taker, that story of his should not be clouded by tonight."

The win moves Joshua to 28-3 in his career while offering another statement of intent before the eyes of Fury in the front-row at ringside following the Gypsy King's laboured split-decision win over Ngannou towards the end of last year.

Joshua wasted no time in making a beeline for the winner of Fury and Usyk, who will meet on May 18, while also paying tribute to the impact of his relationship with trainer Ben Davison, whose introduction has coincided with something of a resurgence of the cold-blooded knockout instincts that had fuelled the Olympian's early career success.

If Fury had taken the Ngannou challenge lightly, there was no risk of Joshua following suit as he paid the respect the 37-year-old had earned from the boxing world in his first outing.

It proved the perfect message on another defining night for Joshua, who blew the door to more exciting opportunities off the hinges two years after much had been doubted following back-to-back losses to Usyk. This was Joshua at his dangerous best, with the spiteful fists and the untarnished confidence of a man who yet believes he can return to the pinnacle of his discipline. In that mood, few would question it.
