Residents of Osogbo, the Osun State capital, have decried the cost of transport fares despite the reduction in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit also known as petrol.

Some of the residents told the OsunReporters News correspondents over the weekend in Osogbo, that the rising cost of transportation was making life unbearable for many Nigerians.

The disappointed commuters added that instead of a reduction, transport fares were rather increasing despite the reduction in the price of PMS.

OsunReporters News recalls that immediately the fuel subsidy was removed by President Bola Tinubu in May 2023, motorists also increased fares across Nigeria. But in December 2024, February, March and April 2025, the Dangote refinery reduced the ex-depot price of its petrol from N970 to N899.50; N890.80 among others per litre.

This sparked an intense pricing reduction in the downstream sector, forcing the NNPCL to reduce its ex-depot price to N9:40, N899 and N895 among others per litre as well.

Similarly, the Dangote refinery announced its partnership with MRS Petrol station to sell petrol from its retail outlets nationwide at N935 per litre.

However, Osun State residents explained that the constant reduction in the fuel price by both the Dangote refinery and the NNPCL should naturally reduce transport fares across the nation. Unfortunately, rather than go down, the cost of transportation remains stagnant at a higher rate.

While lamenting, a petty trader identified as Mrs. Olu Halimat said the rising cost of transportation is negatively affecting the prices of goods and services, noting that she still pays high transport fares to move her goods from one point to another.

"I am selling puff puff at Orisumbare market, I used to enter two buses from Abidogun Area, Otaefun Osogbo at N1,200 from home and same while going home since the increase in fuel pump.

“With the reduction in fuel price, we expect a reduction in transport fares as well, but nothing has changed.

"I'm pleading to the government and transport union to help us look into it, may God help them."

Also speaking, an applicant, Mr. Adejumo Adekunle Kingsley expressed disappointment in the current government, calling them to ensure price control in the economy.

"N50 reduction in fuel pump price cannot be effective. When the increment happened a lot of people have increased their services too. If you are talking about reduction, will the price of other things that have increased like house rent, salaries, school fees also come down? To be candid, Tinubu's government is inconveniencing us.

"Governance is our problem in Nigeria, if the government can't control the situation, Nigerians should vote them out and look for the right people. We need someone that has the fear of God and conscience to be our President.

"My advice for drivers is that, if there is any why they can help at least to ease the affairs regarding transport fare,“ he lamented.

A civil servant simply identified as Mrs Adeleke who also decried the increasing rate of transport fares, however, blamed Nigerians for selfishness and greediness to make higher profits at the expense of fellow Nigerians.

"Nigerians are the problem of Nigeria. We are just clamouring that the government is bad, whereas the citizens are worse.

"If the fuel price increases; the  transport will increase but if there is a reduction in fuel price, our transporters and other traders won't reduce their prices again. Is it supposed to be? Let's ask ourselves."

Adeleke, however, called on the government to ensure commercial drivers do not overcharge commuters, particularly with the current reduction in the pump price of petrol.

Our correspondents also visited some parks within Osogbo to ask some drivers the reason for not listening to the complaints of commuters. However, commercial drivers defended their actions, blaming and pleading the government to salvage the current situation in the country.

Hammed Nurudeen, Chairman Ile-Ife to Osogbo car Unit:  "The money that was reduced from petrol is just N50 naira, and the fare from Osogbo to Ile Ife is N2,500. Apart from the slight reduction, other things weren't reduced. So the fare can't be reduced at this time because we pay other expenses like vulcanizers, engine oil among others. The government should  reduce the fuel pump to N300 per litre to ease the current suffering."

Abdullateef Adejare, Chairman Assisted Cars at Oju-Irin Park, Old garage Osogbo: "People are talking about fuel prices that were slightly reduced, what about motor parts? The bus tyre we are using has increased from N27,000 to N70,000."

An Okada Rider who did not want his name mentioned also explained: "You are only looking at the reduction in fuel pump price, what we are buying is too costly. Can you imagine that a vulcanizer will charge N300 to pump a tyre, and you expect me to reduce my price? Never!

Abdulazeez Mustapha, Chairman Olaiya/Agunbelewo/Okinni taxi (Korope) park: "We have reduced our fare, it was N400 when the pump price was above N1000 but we've reduced it to N300 naira as we speak. We will continue to reduce it as the fuel price reduces."

At the time of filing this report, OsunReporters News gathered that petrol stations in Osogbo and environs, including the NNPCL outlets, sell fuel between N870 and N900 per litre.

Tinubu Has Captured Our Party – PDP Founding Member Identifies Other Governor To Join APC.

Senator Chris Ekpenyong, one of the founding fathers of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has lamented the recent wave of defection of by the party’s bigwigs to the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The defection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme and his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa to the APC has continued to unsettle the main opposition party.

In an interview with Vanguard on Saturday, Ekpenyong, who served as Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State from 1999 to 2007, predicted that his state governor Umo Eno may soon join the ruling party.

According to him, PDP may find it difficult to rise again, lamenting that President Bola Tinubu has captured the opposition party.

He blamed the move by some PDP governors to dump the party and support Tinubu in the coming election on the decision of the former vice president Atiku Abubakar to contest again on the party’s platform.

He said, “Tinubu has killed the PDP. I’m sure Akwa Ibom may follow soon. Everybody wanted former VP Atiku to clearly state that he wasn’t going to contest, but his persistence has forced people to make their own decisions.

“This is dividing the North and the South. What do we do now? The party has been destroyed. I honestly don’t know how they can rebuild it to challenge the APC in the future.

“The people we could talk to are no longer interested. The first mistake PDP made was handing over the party to the governors.

“That was the mistake founding fathers like Obasanjo made. Obasanjo seized the party. The only ones who stood up to him were the late Chief Sunday Awoniyi and former Vice President Alex Ekwueme”.

SpyLoaded News / Panic As Fresh Explosion Kills Over Five Persons In Rivers
« Last post by Morayo on April 27, 2025, 11:25:45 AM »

No fewer than five persons have been tragically killed in an explosion in a residential area in Omoku, headquarters of the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government of Rivers State, on Saturday.

Fyneface Dumnamene, an environmentalist and executive director of the Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday.

It was gathered that the blast was said to have occurred in one of the rooms in a residential area used for storing illegally refined petroleum products.

According to Dumnamene, the occupants of the residence where the explosion occurred usually buy illegally refined kerosene and other products, store them, and resell them to members of the public.

The statement partly reads, “The incident occurred in the late hours of Saturday, April 26, by about 11 am, killing five persons, four females and one male, burnt beyond recognition.”

The Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, also confirmed the incident and casualties.

She explained the cause of the explosion.

According to her, “What really caused the fire was that a resident brought a cooking stove to the place and was preparing noodles, which ignited the fire.

Recall that in March two explosions rocked Rivers State.

The first explosion was at the Trans-Niger Pipeline at Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State. The second was at a pipeline manifold in the Omwawriwa community, Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Thereafter, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers, suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as administrator on March 18, 2025.

Governor Adeleke Commissions Isiaka Adeleke Resource Centre Donated to Adeleke University by Hon Bamidele Salam.

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke on Wednesday commissioned Isiaka Adeleke Leadership Resource Centre donated to Adeleke University, by Honourable Bamidele Salam representing Ede North-Ede South-Egbedore-Ejigbo Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives.

While speaking at the commissioning program, the Governor eulogizing his late elder brother, popularly known as 'Serubawon' noted that he upheld equality of man in private and public life, he demonstrated open inclusiveness as a political leader.

The President of Adeleke Dynasty added that throughout Isiaka Adeleke's reign as a Governor, the target for his late brother was the delivery of democratic dividends and good governance to the good people of Osun.

He said, "as his man Friday when he was alive, my late brother was a leveler who detested discrimination in whatever forms. His artisan supporters are as important as his rich fans. When invited to local events, he wore the clothes selected for the event. To him, all men and women are created equal and differences based on class and riches are unacceptable.

"If late Senator Adeleke upheld equality of man in private and public life, he demonstrated open inclusiveness as a political leader. In private and public decisions , the late Governor ensured all stakeholders have a say. He adopted the Athenian model of democracy where all residents added inputs in the governance process.

"Another unique feature was his pro-people outlook. Decisions are taken from the viewpoints of the people. Throughout his reign as a Governor, the target for my late brother was the delivery of democratic dividends and good governance to the good people of Osun. He was completely soaked in his deep love for the citizenry as the primary goal of democracy.

"Aside from all the above, Senator Adeleke was a strong believer in building state infrastructure as a condition for state economic growth and development. He devoted the bulk of his time to creating critical institutions and agencies which were designed to jumpstart a strong state economy.

"A key ingredient of a strong leader is to inspire followers. Our late Excellency spreads optimism amidst governance challenges. His can-do spirit created a strong political followership. He mentored many new leaders who sustained the spirit of open governance and sustainable development.

"Creating a leadership centre devoted to the first executive governor of Osun state is therefore a well deserved respect for a blessed memory of inspired leadership. It is also a legacy project for the present and future generations to learn and imbibe a culture of inclusive, consultative and open leadership.

"I therefore commend the initiator of this initiative and a mentee of our late brother, Hon Bamidele Sallam. His consistent striving to sustain the legacy of Senator Isiaka Adeleke is deeply appreciated by the entire Adeleke dynasty and all lovers of our late leader and brother.

"It is my expectation that the center will run programmes of various dimensions on political leadership. The nation today needs more leaders equipped with skills in open governance, consensus building, public spiritedness and selfless public service. The center under Adeleke University can serve as a veritable platform for imparting those skills."

The initiator of the project, Hon Bamidele Salam in his speech noted that no matter the number of moments that you build in the name of the first civilian Governor of Osun State, it can never be enough especially considering the number of lives that he touched when he was alive.

He added that at the heart of leadership, is compassion adding that any person who lacks compassion can never be a good leader and if you're looking for the definition of compassion, the first beautiful definition of compassion lies in the Prophet of old, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the Holy Prophet Mohammed.

He said, "Osun State, Nigeria and humanity lost a great man, Osun state and Nigeria and humanity lost a man who symbolizes the true meaning of leadership, the man who was an embodiment of compassion and patience. A man who showed everyone around him what it meant to lead human beings, His Excellency Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke. May God Almighty grant him eternal rest.

"For a man like that it's not very usual to have too much of monuments because no matter the number of moments that you build in the name of the first civilian Governor of Osun State, it can never be enough especially considering the number of lives that he touched when he was alive.

"So as regards this leadership centre that we are commissioning today, is just a drop in the ocean, just a token to add to so many things that have come and will still come through different sources and different persons in honour of Senator Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke.

"I decided to make this a leadership centre, this thing came to my mind one of which was the person that we are honouring. Like I said, when we talk about leadership, at the heart of leadership, is compassion, any person who lacks compassion can never be a good leader and if you're looking for the definition of compassion, the first beautiful definition of compassion lies in the Prophet of old, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the Holy Prophet Mohammed.

"So if there's anyone who took after them in this, Otunba Isiaka was number one of them

"Reasons we decided to build this leadership centre, one, to preserve his legacies, two to preserve his history, to preserve very many things as a result of time he lost.

"But as a result of his commitment and dedication, Including your support Your Excellency, and the support of the whole family, of today, there is no more flamboyant political campaign that can happen in the history of Osun state than the one that the Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke ran during his time

"This attributes of patience, Oga was extremely patience and tolerant, and obviously, you (Gov. Ademola) took after him. You're so tolerant and patient

"We have a gallery, lecture hall theatre
We have a development plan for this leadership centre."

The Isiaka Adeleke Leadership Resource Centre located within the main campus of Adeleke University is made up of a gallery, a lecture hall theatre, with a development plan to train students of the university about leadership.

Other dignitaries at the commissioning includes, Pro Chancellor of Adeleke University Dr Deji Adeleke, represented by Chief Mrs Modupeola Adeleke-Sanni; Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal; Chairman, Osun Local Government Service Commission and Son of the Late Serubawon, Tunji Adeleke; Commissioner for Federal Matters and wife of Late Serubawon, Mrs Nike Adeleke, Osun State Head of Service, Elder Ayanyele Aina amd several members of the State Executive Council and top Government Functionaries.
