SpyLoaded News / Court Dismiss Sacked APC LG Chairmen Petition, Awards Fine To Petitioners,Lawyer« Last post by Miss Ifeoluwa on Today at 06:45:10 PM »Court Dismiss Sacked APC LG Chairmen Petition, Awards Fine To Petitioners, Lawyer The Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo has dismissed a lawsuit filed by sacked local government chairmen on Monday, 20 January 2025. This development comes ahead of the upcoming local government elections scheduled for 22 February. The case, filed by chairmen elected during the APC-led administration, sought to restrain the state government from conducting new local government elections and distributing federal allocations. The court, however, ruled against the claimants, allowing the elections to proceed as planned. Presiding over the matter, the judge emphasised the importance of adhering to the rule of law. “This decision reflects the judiciary’s commitment to upholding lawful governance and rejecting unfounded claims,” the judge stated during the ruling. In addition to dismissing the suit, the court imposed penalties on the claimants and their counsel. A fine of ₦1 million was levied against the lawyer representing the claimants, while the claimants themselves were collectively fined ₦200,000. The court described the case as lacking in merit and reiterated that the plaintiffs failed to provide sufficient evidence to support their claims. “The court will not entertain actions designed to obstruct due process,” the judge noted. The dismissal has been lauded as a significant milestone in ensuring the smooth conduct of the February local government polls. The Osun State Electoral Commission, OSSIEC, welcomed the ruling, reaffirming its readiness to conduct credible elections. An official from OSSIEC commented, “We are committed to a free and fair electoral process, and this judgement clears any doubts about our mandate.” Meanwhile, the sacked chairmen have yet to respond to the court’s decision. Sources suggest that they may explore further legal options, although no official statement has been made. The court ruling highlights the tension between the state government and former officeholders, a situation that has persisted since the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke took office. Observers say the upcoming local government elections will serve as a test of political stability and governance in Osun State. 4
Entertainments / Suspended Catholic Priest Married Because He Was Lonely« Last post by Miss Ifeoluwa on Today at 02:20:50 PM »Mary Okanatotor, a lady claiming to be sister to the embattled Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Daniel Okanatotor Oghenerukevwe has revealed why he got married. Recall that the Rev. Father was suspended for dumping his celibacy vows and getting married. According to the purported sister, the Rev. Father got married because he was lonely. Recall that Rev. Fr. Daniel Okanatotor Oghenerukevwe of the Catholic Church of Warri Diocese, had caused a stir on the social media after he was suspended for renouncing his priestly calling to marry his in Dallas, United States of America. The priest tied the matrimonial knot with his wife, Dora Chichah, at the Stream of Joy Church in Dallas, USA, on December 29, 2024, without waiting to be released from his canonical obligations and responsibility by the universal Church. Consequently, the church authorities suspended him from priestly duties. Mary disclosed that Oghenerukevwe suffered from mental health issues for a long time and could not handle the “loneliness” as a priest. She stated, “Thank you all for the comments. The said priest is my brother, and it was the best decision for him because he had a lot of issues with his mental health for a long time and couldn’t deal with the loneliness. “We his family members, are not with him to give him support physically. Thank you for your encouraging words. “This is a trying time for our family, but he who finds a wife finds a good thing. “Secondly, he did not do a secret marriage as he wrote to the diocese to inform them of his decision.” 5
SpyLoaded News / EFCC speaks on how officer on duty was k!lled« Last post by Miss Ifeoluwa on Today at 10:58:40 AM »The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has debunked narrative in the media over the loss of one its officers, an Assistant Superintendent, ASE II Aminu Sahabi Salisu. The Commission in a press statement by the Head, Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, Sunday in Abuja, said the “EFCC expresses grief on the loss of one of its officers, Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC, ASE II Aminu Sahabi Salisu who was killed in cold blood while on a legitimate duty on January 17, 2025 by a suspected internet fraudster, Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu. “Additionally, the Commission views with great concern the irresponsible, callous, inhuman and outrageous narratives being circulated on social media on the whys and wherefores of the fatal accident. It is heinous to reduce the death of a gallant officer who was carrying out patriotic and official duties to social media razzmatazz. “More worrisome is the fact that some faceless commentators are pitching their tents with an alleged criminal who unleashed terror on officers of the EFCC in their line of duty. There is no justification whatsoever to rationalise a murderous act. The milk of human kindness demands that a grieving family, Commission and nation should be spared the shenanigans of false narratives and conjectures on the death of the slain officer.” According to the spokesperson, “Salisu, alongside other investigators of the EFCC, were at Dr. J.O. Ukwutinife Close, Ifite, Awka, Anambra state, to arrest some suspected internet fraudsters in the early hours of January 17. The operation was duly documented at the Anambra State Command Headquarters and Area Command of the Nigeria Police in line with operational protocols. “The operation was initially smooth sailing with 37 suspected internet fraudsters already arrested at a two-storey building housing Ikechukwu and other occupants of the house. “However, Ikechukwu, who sighted the investigators through a CCTV Camera mounted at his doorpost and who also confessed sighting them, declined to open his door for the investigators who politely demanded entrance to his apartment. Defying all the introduction and physical sighting of the investigators, he resorted to firing shots at them and killed Salisu in the process and wounded another officer detailed to conduct a search in his apartment. “Preliminary investigations showed that Ikechukwu was involved in coding and online medical supplies of doubtful legitimacy. Two laptops, ipads, several recording devices were recovered from his apartment and his involvement in internet fraud is already established. Though currently in police custody owing to the murderous dimension of his case, the Commission will surely bring him to trial.” He said, “The EFCC also wishes to alert the public that the activities of internet fraudsters are becoming patently hazardous to public safety and security. Intelligence has shown that these criminals are carrying arms, involved in kidnapping, banditry, ritual killings and other deadly acts. The public should not fold its arms or allow itself to be deceived that they are mere “Yahoo boys and girls”. “As for the EFCC, every subsequent attack on any of its officers will be met with the force of the law. The Commission will not fold its arms and allow any of its officers to be killed again in cold blood. As a law enforcement agency of repute, the EFCC is unrelenting in riding the nation of internet fraud and other acts of corruption. “While mourning the loss of its officer who paid the supreme price in the service of the nation, the Commission appreciates the invaluable support, condolences and prompt response of sister agencies and well-meaning individuals standing shoulder to shoulder with it at this trying time.” 6
Tech / TikTok Back Up in U.S. As Trump Plans Executive Order to Extend Deadline for...« Last post by Miss Ifeoluwa on January 19, 2025, 07:24:33 PM »TikTok Back Up in U.S. As Trump Plans Executive Order to Extend Deadline for TikTok Sale President-elect Donald Trump announced plans to issue an executive order granting TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, additional time to secure an approved buyer after the U.S. imposed a federal ban on the app. The decision comes as millions of TikTok users found themselves unable to access the platform on Sunday, with Google and Apple removing it from their digital stores in compliance with the law. Trump addressed the situation in a Truth Social post, stating his intention to delay the ban to finalize a deal that protects U.S. national security. “I’m asking companies not to let TikTok stay dark!” he wrote. “Americans deserve to see our exciting Inauguration on Monday, as well as other events and conversations.” Under federal law, the president has the authority to grant a 90-day extension if a sale is in progress. Although ByteDance has resisted selling its U.S. operations, Trump proposed a unique solution: a joint venture in which the U.S. would hold a 50% ownership stake. “By doing this, we save TikTok, keep it in good hands, and allow it to stay up,” he explained, adding that U.S. approval could make TikTok worth “hundreds of billions, maybe trillions” of dollars. As of now, TikTok users in the U.S. remain unable to access the platform. Those opening the app are greeted with a pop-up message explaining the ban: “A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can’t use TikTok for now.” The blackout began Saturday night when Apple and Google removed TikTok and other ByteDance apps from their stores. Despite some alternative apps promoted by influencers, these were also affected by the ban. The ban’s duration remains uncertain, pending Trump’s planned executive order. With a potential deal in the works, the focus now shifts to whether ByteDance and U.S. investors can reach an agreement to bring TikTok back online. 7
SpyLoaded News / Ossiec Clarifies Pending Litigations; Says No Cause For Alarm« Last post by Miss Ifeoluwa on January 19, 2025, 03:51:03 PM »Ossiec Clarifies Pending Litigations; Says No Cause For Alarm. Osun State Independent Electoral Commision hereby wishes to clarify some misinformation and prooaganda in the media space by some peddlers of falsehood and arch propagandists. From the Information made available by the OSSIEC Legal Department, there are 6 cases in all against the Commision. Two appeals, two at the Federal High Court, two before the State High Court. The two appeals were against separate decisions of the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo delivered by Hon. Justice Ayo Emmanuel on 25th November, 2022 and 30th November, 2022. The two decisions nullified the 2022 local government election, and as a consequence sacked the purported elected council officials who all belonged to the APC. Two separate appeals were lodged against the said two separate decisions. The first appeal appeal was filed jointly by the APC and some her purported candidates at the election while the other appeal was against yet another decision of the Federal High Court to the same effect of sacking the purported elected officials. The said second appeal had APM, BABARINDE NURUDEEN IDOWU & the APC as the Appellants. On Monday 13th January, 2025, the Court of Appeal sitting in Akure dismissed the appeal jointly filed by the APM, BABARINDE & the APC for reason of abandonment. The effect of that decision is that the judgment of the Federal High Court dated 30th November, 2022, nullifying the purported local government elections in Osun State, thereby sacking the purported elected officials, all of whom belonged to the APC, is validly subsisting, appeal against same having been dismissed. The first appeal has been argued and judgment has been reserved. We must clarify that whatever the outcome of the appeal slated for judgment is, there is a subsiting judgment of the Federal High Court which nullified the 2022 local government elections and which sacked the purported elected officials. A clear explanation to this is someone having two armed robbery decisions against his person, in which he has been sentenced to death in both decisions, and one of the decisions is still validly subsisting while the other is awaiting a judgment on appeal, no matter the outcome of the appeal, he is still not going home as he is bound to die by virtue of the conviction in the other judgement which is still validly subsisting. There are two other cases before the Federal High Court, sitting in Osogbo, one was filed by the APC against the appointment of the OSSIEC Chairman, Hashim Abioye Esq., while the other was filed by the SDP seeking the nullification of the process of the local government elections. The one filed by the SDP is coming up on Monday 20th January, 2025, we will not say more abiut that. The one seeking the disqualification of the person of the OSSIEC Chairman has been slated for hearing before the Federal High Court. We are to clarify that there is no restraining order against the OSSIEC Chairman, there is no order stopping the election and there is nothing against the process of the election as the suit is about the eligibility of the present OSSIEC Chairman which case is not yet heard. We must add that the Federal High Court is the Court of first instance in this particular suit, as there are two other levels of Court above the Federal High Court to settle the matter therein. We understand the propaganda being shared all over social media platforms as if the Federal High Court has disqualified or sanctioned the OSSIEC Chairman which insinuation only exists in the wild imagination of the promoter. We reiterate that the suit is still pending before the Federal High Court and the Commission will not go the way of media propaganda being shared all over postulating and promoting reliefs that are never before the Court in a suit that is well established as a personal attack, malice and vendetta against the OSSIEC Chairman who effectively resigned his membership of the political party he initially belonged long before his appointment. That is what the promoters of falsehood are brandishing all over. They have even written judgement in favour of themselves on the social media. For reason of subjudice, we will not go into details here as against the unwelcome, embarrassing and unwarranted attitude of the promoters of lies. The two other suits before the State High Court were also filed by the APC. One is for the APC mainly to have some its purported candidates to be on the ballot for the election. Note that the said purported candidates were never those submitted by the APC in its list of candidates to the Commision after conduct of primaries. They are battling their way in Court and there is no order stopping the process of the election in anyway. The suit has been adjourned till 10th February, 2025 for hearing. The other suit before the State High Court was also filed by the APC challenging the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (Amendment No.1) Law, 2024, regarding constitution of the Election Tribunals. That suit is yet to be given date and the Commision just got hint of the said latest suit filed on 30/12/2024. We wish to inform the general public to remain focused as the election process proceeds seamlessly, legitimately and steadily without hitches, and ultimately the Commision says there is no cause for alarm. 8
Tech / Why is TikTok banned? What's behind the law that shuttered the app« Last post by Miss Ifeoluwa on January 19, 2025, 07:57:18 AM »The 170 million TikTok users in the U.S. were in for a rude awakening late Saturday night when the enormously popular video-sharing app became inaccessible because of a law passed by a bipartisan majority in Congress last year. TikTok voluntarily shut down service to its users ahead of Sunday's ban. Users in the U.S. who opened the app were greeted with a message with the headline, "Sorry, TikTok isn't available right now." "A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S.," the message reads. "Unfortunately, that means you can't use TikTok for now. We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned!" TikTok was also no longer available in the Apple or Google Play stores. CBS News has reached out to TikTok for comment. Lawmakers and U.S. officials have sounded the alarm for years about the supposed risks that TikTok's ties to China pose to national security, and Congress moved last year to force TikTok's Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to sell its stake in the app or be cut off from the U.S. market. The law gave the company a deadline of Jan. 19 — one day before a new president would take office. With no sign of a sale in sight, TikTok's last-ditch legal challenge failed on Friday when the Supreme Court said the law does not violate the First Amendment. The Biden White House said it will leave enforcement of the law to the incoming Trump administration, and President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to "save" the app. On Saturday, Trump told NBC News he was considering an option to extend the deadline for the law to go into effect. "The 90-day extension is something that will be most likely done, because it's appropriate," he said in the phone interview, adding, "if I decide to do that, I'll probably announce it on Monday." The law allows the president, under some circumstances, to grant a one-time extension of up to 90 days regarding the date when the law goes into effect. TikTok had hinted it would take itself offline, a move that leaves content creators and users in the lurch as the company seeks a way to get back on firm legal footing. In a statement provided to CBS News Friday evening, TikTok said that the Biden administration had "failed to provide the necessary clarity and assurance to the service providers that are integral to maintaining TikTok's availability to over 170 million Americans. Unless the Biden Administration immediately provides a definitive statement to satisfy the most critical service providers assuring non-enforcement, unfortunately TikTok will be forced to go dark on January 19." White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre had earlier Saturday called TikTok's latest statement "a stunt." "We have seen the most recent statement from TikTok," Jean-Pierre said. "It is a stunt, and we see no reason for TikTok or other companies to take actions in the next few days before the Trump Administration takes office on Monday. We have laid out our position clearly and straightforwardly: actions to implement this law will fall to the next administration. So TikTok and other companies should take up any concerns with them." Why did Congress want to ban TikTok? U.S. officials have repeatedly warned that TikTok threatens national security because the Chinese government could use it as a vehicle to spy on Americans or covertly influence the U.S. public by amplifying or suppressing certain content. The concern is warranted, they said, because Chinese national security laws require organizations to cooperate with intelligence gathering. FBI Director Christopher Wray told House Intelligence Committee members last year that the Chinese government could compromise Americans' devices through the software. As the House took up the divest-or-ban law in April 2024, Rep. Michael McCaul, a Texas Republican, compared it to a "spy balloon in Americans' phones." Sen. Chris Coons, a Democrat from Delaware, said that lawmakers learned in classified briefings "how rivers of data are being collected and shared in ways that are not well-aligned with American security interests." "Why is it a security threat?" Republican Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri said Friday. "If you have TikTok on your phone currently, it can track your whereabouts, it can read your text messages, it can track your keystrokes. It has access to your phone records." If the Chinese government gets its hands on that information, "it's not just a national security threat, it's a personal security threat," Hawley said. In 2022, TikTok began an initiative known as "Project Texas" to safeguard American users' data on servers in the U.S. and ease lawmakers' fears. The Justice Department said the plan was insufficient because it still allowed some U.S. data to flow to China. Though the divest-or-ban law passed with bipartisan support, some lawmakers have been critical of the measure, agreeing with TikTok that it infringes on Americans' free speech rights. "Most of the reasons the government banned it were based on accusations, not proof," Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky said Friday. "[TikTok has] never been tried and found guilty of sharing information with the communist government." Others have changed their tune as the deadline for a ban neared, including Trump, who tried to ban the app with an executive order during his first term that was struck down in the courts. "The irony in all of this is that Donald Trump was the first one to point out there's a problem," Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia, the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, said Thursday. Warner said the Trump administration "did a great job of convincing me and overwhelming members of Congress" about the risks. CBS News 9
Tech / Tears flow as TikTok Shuts Down in the U.S. Ahead of Ban« Last post by Miss Ifeoluwa on January 19, 2025, 07:46:38 AM »Tears flow as TikTok Shuts Down in the U.S. Ahead of Ban TikTok went offline in the United States on Saturday night, just hours before a nationwide ban was set to take effect. The shutdown leaves 170 million American users without access to one of the world’s most popular social media apps. Upon opening the app, users were greeted with the message: “Sorry, TikTok isn’t available right now. A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, that means you can’t use TikTok for now.” This action follows the Supreme Court’s Friday decision to uphold a bipartisan law banning TikTok unless it is sold to a U.S.-based or allied buyer. Signed into law by President Joe Biden in April, the ban cites national security concerns tied to TikTok’s Chinese ownership. However, TikTok hinted at a potential return, stating it could be operational again as early as Monday. A pop-up message to users mentioned collaboration with President-elect Donald Trump, who suggested he may delay the ban for 90 days after taking office. In an interview with NBC News, Trump said, “The 90-day extension is something we’ll most likely do. It’s appropriate to give us time to look at the situation carefully.” He plans to announce his decision Monday. The ban also led to TikTok’s removal from the Apple App Store and Google Play, along with other apps owned by parent company ByteDance, like CapCut. The law has forced U.S.-based service providers to cease hosting TikTok’s data, fearing liability under the new legislation. TikTok’s sudden shutdown is the latest development in a months-long saga. Influencers and small businesses reliant on the platform expressed concern but remain hopeful for a resolution. Meanwhile, Trump, who first raised alarms about TikTok five years ago, has positioned himself as a potential savior for the app, citing its popularity. TikTok’s CEO, Shou Chew, recently met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago and is expected to attend Trump’s inauguration Monday. ByteDance has yet to comment on the blackout. 10
