Tech / We Will Soon Deploy 5G Technology - FG Announces
« Last post by Miss Ifeoluwa on Today at 06:54:42 PM »

According to The Nation, the Federal Government has announced it is going ahead with arrangements for deployment of Fifth Generation (5G) Technology in the telecommunications industry.

The government allayed fears and concerns on health and security implications over deployment of 5G, asserting Nigeria cannot afford to be left behind.

It added the resources and revenues to be earned from the deployment are so huge they cannot be ignored.

Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Prof Umar Garba Danbatta, announced these at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NCC and the Nigerian Communications Satellite limited (NigComSat) at the headquarters of the Commission in Abuja.

The MoU between the two agencies under the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy would lay the foundations for acquisition of Frequency Spectrum suitable for the deployment of the technology in the country.

Danbatta said the NigComSat, it was discovered after investigation across the globe, had the appropriate technology to facilitate the deployment.

Danbatta said: “Amongst the Frequency Spectrum bands allocated to 5G by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU, the C-band (3.4GHz – 3.9GHz) stands out because its balancing point between coverage and capacity provides the perfect environment for 5G connectivity.

“The C-band is most suitable and appropriate for immediate deployment of 5G services taking into consideration availability of device ecosystem with 60-70% of global commercial 5G network deployment currently in the band, thus the importance of this Spectrum for early deployment of 5G services in Nigeria cannot be over emphasized.

“For optimal 5G service performance, an average of contiguous 100 MHz of spectrum in the C-band is required by an Operator. However in Nigeria, only 120 MHz of the band (3.4 – 3.52) GHz is available for mobile services while the remaining 680 MHz (3.52 – 4.2) GHz of the band is used by NigComSat (NG-1R) satellites.

“The Commission initiated negotiation with NIGCOMSAT whom in our estimate could make some adjustment to its satellite operation and release part of its Spectrum holding in the band to facilitate the deployment of 5G in Nigeria.

“The two agencies have been in discussions on how to relocate the operations of NG-1R to the standard C-band 300MHz (3.9GHz – 4.2GHz) potion of the band, which is more suitable in terms of Satellite service offering because end user terminal are cheaper there, while leaving the non-standard C-band 400MHz (3.5GHz – 3.9GHz) portion of the band for 5G use.

“The cost of relocating the NG-1R is expected to be offset from the proceeds of the auction of the 5G Spectrum.

Managing Director of NigComSat, Dr Abimbola Alale, lauded the committees set by the two agencies for doing a thorough job in the larger interest of the country.

She said the MoU would change the narratives of digital and telecommunications industry in the country.

Chairman of the NCC board, Prof Adeolu Akande the time has come for the country to key into adoption and deployment of 5G technology.

“In recent times, precisely from the last quarter of 2019, several administrations have begun to license Spectrum for commercial deployment of 5G.

” As we speak today, 5G services have already been deployed in United States of America, South Korea, United Kingdom, China, South Africa, Kenya and many more”, Akande said.

According to him, telecommunication evolution has led to improvement in user experience witnessed from 2G, 3G and later 4G

Corps members will not be posted to security challenged areas of the country, the National Youth Service Corps has promised.

NYSC Director-General, Brig Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim, said this on Tuesday at the 2021 Batch ‘A’ Pre-Orientation Workshop held in Karu, Nasarawa State.

He noted that this will take effect during its forthcoming 2021 Batch A Stream Two Orientation Course.

“As the welfare and safety of corps members and staff is part of the policy thrust of my administration, we shall continue to work closely with relevant shareholders to evolve strategies for the protection of all corps members and the entire corps community during the orientation course,” he added.

NYSC added that the scheme is working with the security agencies and would not undermine the safety of any corps member.

The NYSC DG also revealed that the scheme plans to increase camp capacity while still observing COVID-19 protocols across the country.

“We worked closely with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and state ministries of health.

“We would use the opportunity of the workshop to, among other things, harness our experiences and explore the prospect of increasing camp capacity, without losing sight of the need to strictly obey COVID -19 safety protocols, as we learn to operate optimally under the ‘new normal.”

Ex US President, Mr. Donald Trump has launched a new "communications" website, which says it will publish content "straight from the desk" of the former US president.

Mr Trump was banned by Twitter and suspended by Facebook and YouTube after the Capitol riots in January.

The former president has since been releasing statements by press release - which the new website will now host.

Users will be able to like posts - and also share them on Twitter and Facebook accounts.

"It is a blog," Kara Swisher, technology columnist for the New York Times told BBC Radio 4's Today programme. "I was like '2002 is calling and it wants its blog back...'

"I don't know what the overall plan is because he does have some very sharp digital advisers. It is just the beginning of his attempts to try to re-establish a louder ability to participate in digital media."

The move comes a day before a decision is due from Facebook's Oversight Board on whether to permanently ban Mr Trump.

Mr Trump's senior adviser, Jason Miller, had previously said a new social media platform was to be launched. "This new platform is going to be big," he said in March.

But Mr Miller tweeted on Tuesday that the new website was not the social media platform he had previously hyped.

"We'll have additional information coming on that front in the very near future," he said.

The website is reportedly built by Campaign Nucleus, a digital services company created by Mr Trump's former campaign manager Brad Parscale.

Several posts on the site repeat debunked claims that last year's presidential election was rigged.

Facebook's Oversight Board will announce its decision on whether Mr Trump is to be permanently banned from the platform on 09:00 EST (14:00 BST).

If he is allowed back on to the site, Facebook will have seven days to reactivate his account.

YouTube has said they will reactivate Mr Trump's account when the threat of "real-world violence" reduces.

Twitter, where Mr Trump had 88 million followers, has banned him permanently.

A Twitter spokesperson told the BBC: "Generally, sharing content from the website referenced is permitted as long as the material does not otherwise violate the Twitter Rules".

The Presidency had claimed that the Cleric was attacking Buhari because he was refused a contract.

However, a protest has hit the coal city over the disappearance of the Priest whose whereabouts cannot be ascertained.

DAILY POST had learnt of a notice calling on all youths of the ministry to the adoration ground.

The message inviting the youths to the adoration ground, obtained by DAILY POST read, “Important!

“Good morning friends and well-wishers. Please if you know you stand for justice and you do not want the lone voice that speaks for the poor in this country to be silenced, gather at Adoration ground let’s go for a protest at the Bishops court.

“Fr. Mbaka is nowhere to be found. He went yesterday to answer the Bishop’s call and up till now, he’s not taking his calls. Let’s gather! SSG.”

The Parishioners have now stormed the Bishop’s Court demanding that Bishop Calistus Onaga of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu should produce him.
