Some youths have taken to the streets of Kogi state on Tuesday to protest against plans by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC, to arrest former Governor Yahaya Bello.

Bello was accused by EFCC of engaging in N80.2 billion fraud.

The youths, who gathered in their numbers, barricaded the popular Lokoja-Abuja road which caused gridlock on the highway.

They protested under the auspices of the Coalition of Civil Society for Democracy, and Africa Youths Coalition for Justice, accusing the anti-graft agency of witch-hunting and victimizing the former Governor.

They were seen carrying banners with various inscriptions, “Nigeria is not a banana republic”, “President Tinubu, call EFCC to order”, “EFCC stop witch hunting”, “Yahaya Bello remains a responsible citizen”, “EFCC obey court order now” and many more.

The groups called for caution and adherence to the rule of law on Bello’s trial.

The immediate past governor of Kogi state, Yahaya Bello has expressed his willingness to appear in court.

He however noted that he's afraid of arrest.

Bello said is ready to appear at the Federal High Court in Abuja regarding the 19-count indictment filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Adeola Adedipe, SAN, a member of his legal team, said his client would have appeared in court but was worried about being taken into custody.

He said: “The defendant wants to come to court but he is afraid that there is an order of arrest hanging on his head.”

He asked the court to revoke the exparte order of arrest it had previously imposed on the former governor.

Adedipe argued that the charge had not been served on his client as required by law at the time the warrant of arrest was made.

He noted that it was only at the resumed proceedings on Tuesday that the court okayed substituted service of the charge on the defendant, through his lawyer.

“As at the time the warrant was issued, the order for substituted service had not been made. That order was just made this morning.

“A warrant of arrest should not be hanging on his neck when we leave this court,” counsel to the defendant added.

In the second episode of Glover’s Gilga radio, the musician previewed some unreleased Childish Gambino tunes, including a collaboration with Kanye West.

The rapper-producer took to IG live (which is also where the first episode of Gilga Radio initially aired) and played a full length version of an unexpected verse from Ye over a high energy, percussion heavy beat. If this wasn’t enough, the beat switches to a Kanye-esque sonic bed for the second half, heavily reminiscent of his trademark production style featuring high pitched vocal samples.

The higher quality version of the audio is also available below!

An unidentified North Carolina (United States of America) high schooler has been charged with assault after reportedly being caught on camera slapping a teacher.

Fox News reports that the incident occurred at Parkland High School in Winston-Salem on April 15, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) statement on Facebook.

The video posted online shows the student standing over a teacher who is seated before striking her in the face.

“Do you think that affected me in any way?” The teacher can be heard asking.

“Want me to hit you again?” the student says, while stepping up and repeating the question.

“I don’t want it,” the teacher says, before she is struck again.

The hit is so hard that her glasses fly off her face while the teenager continues his profanity-filled rant.

“Ain’t nobody even coming. You got slapped,” the student says. “B—-, go back to teaching.”

Noel Keener, who’s the school’s principal, informed parents in a message that the student would face disciplinary action in addition to criminal charges for “inappropriate and unsettling” behavior, according to local TV station WGHP.

The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools spokesperson, as well as the superintendent did not respond to a Fox News Digital inquiry about what happened.

However, Superintendent Tricia McManus told WGHP that the student’s “behavior will not be tolerated” and her focus was on making sure the “teacher is taken care of and has the support needed to navigate through the lasting effects of this incident.”

The superintendent also plans to recommend expulsion from the school district in a hearing separate from the legal ones.

The student faces one charge of communicating threats and two charges of misdemeanor assault. The sheriff’s office says no additional information will be released since he is a juvenile.

Crime / Mob burn two suspected motorcycle snatchers to death in Benue
« Last post by Miss Ifeoluwa on April 20, 2024, 09:52:48 AM »

Two men who allegedly snatched a motorcycle and were attempting to rob their victims were burnt to death by a mob in Makurdi, Benue State capital.

DAILY POST gathered that the incident took place at about 12 to 1 am on Friday, in the Nyon area, a suburb of Makurdi.

A witness account said the suspects were apprehended and lynched after a commercial motorcyclist popularly called Okada man raised alarm while the two suspects were struggling to rob him of the Okada.

A witness who identified himself simply as Terna narrated that according to the Okada man, he picked both passengers from Katsina Ala street in the High-Level area of Makurdi town heading to Nyon.

He said “They told me to bring them to Nyon, a suburb in Makurdi. On getting there, they directed me into a street which I followed.

“But because it was too late when he got to a point, the okada man told his passengers to pay him so he could get back but they insisted they don’t have money on them and that they will get the money when they get to his house.

“While he made to leave, they grabbed him and requested that he give them his motorcycle key. When he refused to hand them the keys, they started struggling with him and luck ran out on them when he( okada man) raised an alarm.”

Terna, however, lamented that the incidence of motorcycle snatching has been on the increase in the Makurdi metropolis.

He said community members and especially the youth have also vowed that culprits would not go free when caught in the act.

He further explained that the youth who came out in their numbers gave the suspected bike robbers a good chase and caught them before they could escape.

It was learnt that the youth had beaten the dead suspects to a pulp, before setting them ablaze.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Benue State Command, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed that she received a report on the incident, saying some officers had been detailed to the community to find out what actually happened.

She, however, reiterated the call on the Benue public to desist from taking laws into their hands and advised them to report such issues and persons to law enforcement agencies for necessary action.
