The decision was made after an emergency congress held at the institution’s campus by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics, SSANIP, and Non-Academic Staff Union, NASU. The unions are equally aggrieved over the alleged decision of management to deduct from staff salaries, seeking redress on the issue before returning to the classrooms. Addressing the congress, ASUP Chairman, Mr.Adeyemi Aromolaran recalled a meeting the management had called with the chairmen of the three unions about a month ago, informing them of a directive from the Education Minister, Mallam Adamu Adamu, to stop paying allowances from the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), stating that when confronted, the Rector, Dr. Margaret Kudirat Ladipo could not provide proof of the directive.
