The Acting Rector of the  Federal Polytechnic Offa, Dr. Olarongbe Afolabi has urged the freshers students of the institution not to be enticed by joining the bandwagons ’of getting rich quick‘ yahoo yahoo, saying that it is the blessing of God that makes one rich and does not lead to sorrow.

Dr. Olarongbe stated this while delivering his speech at the 28th matriculation ceremony which is the first matriculation he presided over as the Acting Rector of the institution, he further urged the students who engaged in such act to refrain from the path of destruction so as not to destroy their glorious destiny.

Speaking further, he tasked the newly admitted students of the institution to strive for academic excellence, adding that they do not have another business in the institution than to learn, study and develop good character.

He said, "The   management is always ready  to pay priority attention to the pursuit of academic excellence, conducive environment for teaching and learning, and a hitch-free academic session."

He charged the students to shun any act of cultism and hooliganism as students who engage themselves in such act get their lives cut short. He warned that students found in the act will face expulsion and criminal prosecution according to the students' handbook.

According to him, "This Polytechnic does not tolerate indiscipline and other forms of misconduct. Please obey the rules and regulations of this Polytechnic as spelled out in the Students’ Handbook. There are stiffer punishments, and at times outright expulsion if you violate these rules."

Speaking on dress code, he said, the Polytechnic has a dress code for all students, and there is a handbook on dress code which states clearly the acceptable and unacceptable dress modes for students. He added that some of the unacceptable dressing styles are ‘Marlian’ dressing, wearing tattered/crazy jeans, wearing rubber slippers, sagging of trousers, tattooing of body, piercing of nose or any part of the body except the ears (for females only), wearing of earrings by male, hair tinting or coloring of hair/attachments among others are forbidden on campuses and attract serious sanction for violators.

While the Dean, Directorate of Students Affairs, Dr. Waheed Balogun congratulated the matriculating students and described them as the most luckiest for attending the Federal Polytechnic Offa. He, therefore, charged the students to be law-abiding and urged them to go through the students' handbook for guidance on the 'dos and dont's' of the polytechnic.
