ASUP STRIKE UPDATE  TODAY 26 / May 2nd 2021

STRIKE MAYBE SUSPENDED THIS WEEK AS ASUP NEC ACCEPTS FG OFFERS  BUT FG RELUCTANT TO PAY

The Natonal Executive Council (NEC)  of the Academic staff union of polytechnics (ASUP) has considered federal government offers with some criteria before the union can resume academic activities.

Poly TV gathered that ASUP NEC accepts the Federal government resolutions at their last meeting with some criteria that all the polytechnic lecturers salary arrears  be paid inclusive of the #4billion minimum wage arrears.

Poly TV has been monitoring the negotiations between ASUP and the federal government and we were made to understand that the federal government want ASUP to resume based on promises that it will pay them after they call off the strike but ASUP insist that they have to be paid first before the strike can be suspended.

You would recall POLY TV reported last week that ASUP NEC meeting would determine the resumption of students however, the meeting yielded positive results as the NEC finally accepts Federal government resolutions.

The resumption of schools now suffer setback as more than five days after the meeting now the federal government is yet to fulfill their promises yet want ASUP to resume.

Furthermore, the reason for the delay maybe connected to the public holiday declared by the federal government last week, therefore there is indication the strike maybe call off this week if FG pay the polytechnic lecturers.

Moreso, There is no any other meeting anymore than for the federal government to fulfill its promise by paying the lecturers. Poly TV understands that the FG want ASUP to resume first  but the gods are now wise As Government may not fulfill its promises if the union suspended the strike with the hope to get paid later.

In conclusion, There is indication that school may resume soon based on the fact that ASUP considered FG resolution and the major challenges now is for the federal government to meet the union demands by releasing funds.

We hope the federal government do the needful this week as we are Tired of staying home.
