Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Friday has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party, is responsible for the country’s fragile economy. He insisted that the past governments led by the PDP failed to tackle infrastructural problems in 16 years. To this end, he added, the nation’s economy was still struggling.

Nigeria’s number two citizen was speaking at the Vice-Presidential debate organised by the Nigeria Elections Debate Group (NEDG) and the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON).

Aside Osinbajo of the APC, the others in attendance were Ganiyu Galadima of the ACPN, Khadijah Abdullahi-Iya of the ANN, Peter Obi of the PDP and Umma Getso of the YPP.

The vice president made the aforementioned accusation when he was asked to respond to questions on why Nigeria’s aggregate investment had not gone up beyond 16 per cent in the last 10 years unlike China and South Africa .

He said, “I think the common denominator between the two countries you mentioned is the strong infrastructure. Our nation in the past 16 years has suffered a major infrastructure deficit. So, we don’t have rails, roads. When we came into power in 2015, power was 4,000MW in 16 years.

“So, you need strong infrastructure. No one can argue about it. The second thing is you cannot have a strong economy if you allow the type of grand corruption that has taken place in Nigeria in the last 16 years.”
