Posted by: Morayo« on: February 17, 2025, 05:20:43 PM »![]() Ahead of the Saturday, February 22, 2025 local government poll in Osun State, the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSSIEC, has officially unveiled voting materials. The unveiling took place on Monday during a press briefing held at the commission’s headquarters in Osogbo. The event was led by OSSIEC Chairman, Barrister Hassim Abioye, who assured the public of the commission’s readiness. “We are fully prepared to conduct a free, fair, and credible election. All necessary materials have been secured, and we are working closely with security agencies to ensure a smooth process.” The unveiled materials included ballot papers, result sheets, and other essential election materials. According to OSSIEC officials, the distribution of materials to various local government areas would commence immediately. Representatives of political parties, the Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC, and civil society organisations were present at the briefing. A spokesperson for one of the political parties said, “We appreciate the transparency of OSSIEC in this process and expect a level playing field for all candidates.” The Osun State Government has also reiterated its commitment to supporting a credible electoral process. “We will not tolerate any form of electoral malpractice or violence,” a government spokesperson warned. Speaking, Osun state IPAC Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande , commended OSSIEC for conducting its activities with the rule of law. Victor, who noted that Osun IPAC which has some disagreements in the past with OSSIEC is amused with the leadership of the commission under Abioye stating that they are confidence that the commission will conduct a free ,fair and credible election. He lauded new innovation the OSSIEC will be deploying to conduct the election. He, however, affirmed that no political party among the IPAC 18 members has written official that it is withdrawing from the February 22 council election.
