The chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSSIEC, Hashim Abioye, has raised alarm that the comission headquarter in Osogbo has been sealed up.

Raising the alarm in a live Rave FM live current affairs programme on Saturday, Abioye expressed surprise that such step can be taken.

He claimed that despite the actions of the police, the local government election had started across all polling units across the state.

He also said, he has left the Inspector General of Police, kayode Egbetokun in the hands of God.

He also lamented that police presence was not visible at the polling units.

In his words, “I leave the police IGP on the hands of God. Election has started earnestly in all the polling units across the state but no police presence is noticeable from the information available to me.”

DAILY POST had earlier reported that the Nigeria Police advised the state government not to go ahead with the poll citing security concerns and legal implication.

DAILY POST however observed that most polling units along the Gbongan-Ibadan road, Ogo-Oluwa, Osogbo was empty and no electoral officers were around despite the fact that voters were observed milling around.

Presence of operatives of the Nigeria Police were also observed on highways and despite the fact that the state government has imposed Vehicular restriction from 5am to 5pm on Saturday, vehicles were also observed playing the majority roads in Osogbo.

ARISE NEWS DAILY is also reporting that the Osun State Police Command has deployed its officers for the local government election.

One of the police officers who spoke under the condition of anonymity said a directive was given to them by the state command on Friday night to go out for the election so as to maintain law and order.
