The Director-General of the Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign council in Rivers, Abiye Sekibo, has been attacked by unknown gunmen.

The Whistler reports that Sekibo, a former Minister of Transportation under Olusegun Obasanjo, escaped a possible assassination attempt on Thursday while traveling through the state.

The PDP chieftain who showed THE WHISTLER a video of the attack said that the assailants were paid for by Nyesom Wike, the governor of the state.

When asked who the attackers were, the former minister told THE WHISTLER via phone interview, "It is Wike and his people."

According to a report in THE WHISTLER, Sekibo, a former ally of Wike, broke up with the Rivers Governor after he (Sekibo) joined forces with Atiku for the presidential election on February 25.

Since Atiku was unable to secure the PDP presidential nomination, Wike has been at odds with him and has made concrete efforts to hinder Atiku's chances of winning votes from the state at the polls.

In November, Wike criticized Sekibo for his decision to work for Atiku, describing the latter as a self-centered politician who, despite receiving contracts from his administration, was unable to meet the needs of his people in the Okrika Local Government Area of the state.

Sekibo, on the other hand, refuted Wike's assertion and asserted that the governor had purposefully orchestrated a lie against him in order to harm his reputation.
