As one of the steps stated in the electoral act, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of presidential candidates and their running mates for the 2027 presidential election, with 18 political parties fielding candidates for Nigeria’s top political office.

The list, signed by the Secretary to the Commission, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, contains 18 presidential candidates and their respective running mates.

The 2027 presidential election is scheduled for January 16, 2027, according to INEC’s timetable for the general elections.

The final list features 16 male presidential candidates and two female candidates.

The two women on the presidential list are Ada Elizabeth Fredrick Okwori of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and Nkem Esther Okereke of the National Rescue Movement (NRM).

The vice-presidential list has 14 men and four women.

Here are the 18 presidential candidates and their running mates:

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is presenting incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, 74, for another term, with Vice President Kashim Shettima, 59, as his running mate.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) ticket features former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 79, with former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, 61, as his running mate.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is fielding former Anambra State Governor Peter Gregory Obi, 65, with former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, 69, as his running mate.

The Action Alliance (AA) ticket has Rufai Adekunle Omo-Aje as its presidential candidate and Shehu Hussaini as his running mate.

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) is represented by Aliyu Abbas-Bin, with Chinazam Ike as his running mate.

The Allied Peoples Party (APP) is fielding Kabiru Yusuf, with Peace Egobia Ofordile as his running mate.

The African Action Congress (AAC) ticket is led by activist and politician Omoyele Sowore, with Haruna Garba Magashi as his running mate.

The Democratic Labour Alliance (DLA) is represented by Moses Olusoji Adebisi, with Nafisat Usaku Abubakar as his running mate.

Ada Elizabeth Fredrick Okwori is the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Party (NDP), with Uchenna Anthony Chukwuemeka as her running mate.

Okwori is one of the two women contesting the presidency on the final list.

The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) is represented by Daniel Daberechukwu Nwanyanwu, with Hassan Khalid as his running mate.

The final list sets the stage for a presidential contest involving candidates from established political parties as well as smaller parties seeking to challenge the dominant political blocs.

With the candidates and their running mates formally listed by the electoral commission, attention has now shifted to the campaigns, their policy proposals and the ability of the various parties to persuade voters ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
