Aruna Quadri, Nigeria’s representative for the ‘men’s single table tennis’ at the Olympics, became the first African to make it to the quarter-finals of the game.

Etching his name in history. 

Aruna’s place in the quarter-finals, Monday, August 8, was secured by a four-two win against German opponent, Boll Timo.

Boll Timo ranked number ten in Rio.

Prior to Monday’s game, Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri was “at par” with Segun Toriola. Toriola made it to the fourth round at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in China.

When he played against his German opponent, Timo, Aruna Quadri won the first three sets 12-10 12-10, 12-5 in ten minutes.
Timo  took the fourth and fifth set 11-3, 11-5

However, in the sixth set, Quadri’s will of steel caused him an 11-9 win. Securing his pace in Olympic history.
