He signed to Aftermath Entertainment for his major-label debut, 1999’s The Slim Shady LP, on which he channeled his visceral anger into edgy jokes and controversial hits. He continued that pattern on 2000’s The Marshall Mathers LP, rapping about murdering his wife, among other provocations. His ensuing releases, 2002’s The Eminem Show, 2009’s Relapse, 2013’s The Marshall Mathers LP 2, and more helped confirm his status as an industry darling. He picked up multiple Grammys, including several for Best Rap Album. Eminem returned in 2017 with his ninth album, Revival.
