According to the studio Fast and Furious 9 will open in theaters on April 19, 2019 while Fast and Furious 10 will follow on April 2, 2021. While little to nothing is known about those films, we do know that F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton ) will direct Fast and furious 8 , replacing James Wan who left the franchise to direct aquaman for Warner Bros. The studio had been trying to convince Justin Lin, who directed four Fast movies from Tokyo drift through Fast and Furious 6 , to return for the final two installments, which they hoped to film at the same time.

Diesel has continuously teased the locations for Fast and Furious 8 saying New York City, Iceland and Cuba were all locations for the upcoming sequel. In addition to the sequels, Universal is hot on expanding the Fast and Furious Cinematic Universe (FFCU?) with spinoffs based around some of the more popular characters. While no specific character has been announced, it’s hard to believe that the studio wouldn’t want a Hobbs movie starring Dwayne “The
Rock” Johnson, or an action-comedy starring Tyrese and ludacris.

At the very least the Fast and Furious franchise is set for the next five years, though surely Universal has plans for this property for a long, long time to come.
