The Green Knight Trailer And Released Date
on: February 14, 2020, 01:42:50 AM

Any movie lover knows A24 is a wonderland of indie movies. The production company has brought out such hits as the Oscar-winning "Moonlight," "Room," and the star-making role of Florence Pugh in "Midsommar." "The Green Knight" is next on the docket of A24. And A24 is going way back to the 14th century for this one.

A24 is not afraid to make bold choices. What other production company would take on a manic film about two lighthouse keepers or a dramatic Adam Sandler vehicle? Well, “The Green Knight” is an out-of-left-field choice, even for them. It is a medieval fantasy film based on the poem, Sir Gaiwin and the Green Knight. There’s not a lot known about the original poem, except that it was written by an anonymous, 14th-century British poet. Only one copy of the poem survives to this day.

Dev Patel plays Sir Gaiwin, the nephew of King Arthur. The film, directed by “A Ghost Story” director David Lowery, follows Patel’s Sir Gaiwin as he embarks on a quest to confront a gigantic and green-skinned knight. It’s shaping up to be a sprawling epic fantasy adventure. And with A24 at the helm, there’s bound to be some interesting twists along the way.

The official synopsis

An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend, THE GREEN KNIGHT tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger, and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger. From visionary filmmaker David Lowery comes a fresh and bold spin on a classic tale from the knights of the round table.

“The Green Knight” drops in theaters on May 29. Take a look at the trailer below.
