Whitney' Trailer: The Iconic Whitney Houston
on: April 28, 2018, 02:39:59 AM

Without a doubt, Whitney Houston will go down as one of the most talented and iconic singers in history. From topping the charts with numerous songs to providing one of the best renditions of the National Anthem, Houston was a true diva. That is until she succumbed to her own demons and passed away at the young age of 48.

It’s that incredible story that makes the upcoming documentary “Whitney” so interesting. As seen in the first teaser for the upcoming film, that will see its premiere out-of-competition at the Cannes Film Festival, the filmmakers were given access to everyone close to Houston, including her mother (and in a brief split-second appearance, we see her “Bodyguard” co-star Kevin Costner).

The film is directed by Kevin Macdonald, who is perhaps best known for the films “Touching the Void” and “The Last King of Scotland.” Both of those films were critically-acclaimed, with ‘Last King’ winning multiple awards, including an Oscar, for its lead actor Forest Whitaker.

As mentioned above, “Whitney” will premiere next month at Cannes before seeing its official release on July 6.

Here’s the synopsis:

Whitney Houston broke more music industry records than any other female singer in history. With over 200 million album sales worldwide, she was the only artist to chart seven consecutive U.S. No. 1 singles. She also starred in several blockbuster movies before her brilliant career gave way to erratic behavior, scandals and death at age 48. The documentary feature Whitney is an intimate, unflinching portrait of Houston and her family that probes beyond familiar tabloid headlines and sheds new light on the spellbinding trajectory of Houston’s life. Using never-before-seen archival footage, exclusive demo recordings, rare performances, audio archives and original interviews with the people who knew her best, Oscar®-winning filmmaker Kevin Macdonald unravels the mystery behind “The Voice,” who thrilled millions even as she struggled to make peace with her own troubled past.
