It's good to look back at the most fascinating and perhaps disturbing news stories in the film world as we approach the end of 2019. And the release of the first trailer "Sonic the Hedgehog" fits into that category without a doubt.

Months later, though, Paramount returns with a second trailer and we are certain that the executives are hoping that viewers will not ruin this one unanimously.

Back in April, audiences revolted in a way that was previously seen by no one in the film industry when they ripped apart the first trailer for "Sonic the Hedgehog." The big gripe wasn't Jim Carrey's over - the-top quality and it wasn't James Marsden's blandness.

The fans simply couldn't get over the film's title character's terrible character development. Social media exploded with cynical memes and jokes, and Paramount listened. Then the studio went back to the drawing board, delaying the film in hopes of giving more time to change the character.

Here’s the synopsis:

Based on the global blockbuster videogame franchise from Sega, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG tells the story of the world’s speediest hedgehog as he embraces his new home on Earth. In this live-action adventure comedy, Sonic and his new best friend Tom (James Marsden) team up to defend the planet from the evil genius Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) and his plans for world domination. The family-friendly film also stars Tika Sumpter and Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic.

Half a year later, and the second trailer is the debut of this new look. And you know what? It actually works. Sadly, now that the title character looks just like he should, the rest of the film is now ripe for ridicule, including the same incredibly campy performance from Jim Carrey and the plot, which seems downright silly. But then again, this is a family film, and in that regard, it looks…fine.

“Sonic the Hedgehog” will hit theaters on February 14, 2020.
