Dystopian, dark, cynical and cautionary, “Black Mirror” has helped change the way we see technology, the future, the world, each other, love, privacy, connection, sex, family, work, life and more and it’s classic sci-fi in that sense: these prophesying tales warning us of how the things we use, rely and depend on may come to haunt and own us in the future.

That’s all we get, but “Black Mirror” returns this summer on June 5th and it looks as dark, cutting and prophetic as ever. Watch the new trailer right here. The new trailer tells us a little bit more, as does the small details in the trailer description that speaks to only three episodes. One appears to feature Andrew Scott (The Priest, from “Fleabag” season two), as an unhinged gunman seemingly enraged with our uber-connectedness and addiction to our devices, another with Miley Cyrus playing big pop star not unlike herself with Angourie Rice (“Spider-Man: Homecoming”) as an adoring fans with no friends and lastly, Topher Grace appears in one of these episodes as some kind of spiritual guru.

The supporting cast includes Damon Idris, Nicole Beharie, Pom Klementieff, Madison Davenport, and Ludi Lin. The thing about Charlie Brooker’s hit anthology series “Black Mirror” is that it does what it wants, when it wants. Part of that is surprising audiences, whether that’s releasing surprise new episodes out of nowhere, releasing an interactive, choose your adventure-style episode that pushed the edge of technology, or in today’s case, releasing a surprise new trailer out of nowhere for season five.

Featuring three new stories about the future we should have seen coming, “Black Mirror” season five returns June 5th on Netflix. In fact, Entertainment Weekly, released a first look of “Black Mirror” season five yesterday, but aside from a photo of Anthony Mackie (“Avengers: Endgame”) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (“Aquaman”) from episode one, no other details were revealed (“It’s the Marvel-DC crossover no one saw coming”).
