Episode 1

Adaobi: Father, you do not have to worry about anything, when I get married I will still be taking care of you and my brothers.

Papa: I hope so ooo. I trust that you will and make it a duty to also look after your brothers.

Adaobi: I will Papa but you are the one I am more concerned about, your health is deteriorating day by day. Don’t worry, when next I come we will go for medical checkup.

Papa: There is no need for that, for how long will you keep spending money on me? I know the diabetes I am suffering from won’t go for I am of old age already.

Adaobi: Don’t say that Papa, I will keep taking care of you ooo or am I complaining?

Papa: You are not but I am, you should spend your money on other stuff not my health.

Adaobi: Papa please, stop saying that. I am and will keep taking care of you and my siblings till God knows when. I know what we have been through and I won’t stop helping in any way I can.

Papa: Well, what can I say if not thank you and thank God for giving me a daughter like you. If only your mother was here to see this day, she will be so proud of you.

Adaobi: I know Papa and I miss Mom every day of my life. I wish when she fell ill ten years ago, I was able to help her.

Papa : It is not your fault and do not think too much about the past.

Adaobi: Yes Papa.

Papa: How about your husband to be, when is he coming?

Adaobi: He will be coming to make his intentions known in two months or so for I am not too sure.

Papa: You’re not too sure of when he is coming? Are you two quarreling?

Adaobi: No Papa, we are not. He is a very busy man and his schedules are always too tight.

Papa: Okay,Let me know whenever you both are ready.

Adaobi: Yes Papa but Papa, you people should not be too hard on him when he comes ooo.

Papa: Are you scared already?
Adaobi: No Papa, I am just saying.
Papa: Do you love him?
Adaobi: Of course I do Papa.

Papa: I am asking because I want to be very sure if you do, hope you can tolerate and endure with him in times of trouble?

Adaobi: Yes Papa and you do not have to worry for we will scale through whatever difficulties lies ahead.

Papa: Good, I am glad to hear you say that. I do not want to hear that you divorced him or he divorced you ooo, live peacefully as husband and wife and do whatever he ask you to do.

During my time, we never had any case of divorce like you people are having now and I am not in support of it, Am I understood?

Adaobi: Very well Papa.
Papa: Good.

Adaobi: Ermmm Papa
Papa: Yes.

Adaobi: When he comes for the list, Please tell Uncle Emenike to be lenient ooo for I don’t like what he did when Chinenye his daughter was getting married.

Papa: Hmmm, my elder brother is very stubborn, but I will talk to him.

Adaobi: ‘Thank you Papa’ she bent in front of him as she said it and he pat her on the back saying ‘you are welcome’.

Adaobi is the first and only Daughter of Mr. Nzekwe for he is retired civil servant whose wife passed out 10 years ago after a brief illness leaving him to take care of Adaobi and her two junior ones named Chidi and Chibuzo.

Adaobi met her soon to be husband two years ago when she visited a friend of hers named Fumi and ever since then they have been dating and about to tie the knot.

Mami: Ayo my son this one you came to the house today, I thought you have forgotten your family? She said as soon as he drove into the house.

Ayo: Mami, how can I forget you, how can I forget my own family? E no fit happen.

Mami: I hope so ooo because I carried you nine months and you sucked my breast.

Ayo: I am sorry that I have not been visiting you like I should but you should understand work is what is keeping me busy.

Mami: Hmmm okay oooo, I have heard.

Ayo: Where is Kemi, I haven’t heard her voice since I came in.

Mami: That one, she went to visit a friend of hers.

Ayo: Hope she is okay?

Mami: ‘She is fine oooo’ and they both went into the house.

Ayo: Mami, how are you?
Mami: As you can see, I am fine.

Ayo: Yes I can see that. do you need more money, has the one I sent to you two weeks back finished?

Mami: I am okay, you should ask your Junior sister Kemi if she needs the money, I am fine as it is.

Ayo: Hmmm, Alright. I actually came to talk to you about something
important.

Mami: What is it? Hope you are not in trouble?

Ayo: No Mami, I am not.
Mami: Then what is it?

Ayo: I have found the woman of my dreams and want to get married.

Mami: Really, Wow! So finally, you want to settle down?

Ayo: Yes Mami.
Mami: Good news, very good news.
Ayo: Thank you Mami.

Mani: Who is she and where is she from? Who is my wonderful daughter in-law?

Episode 2

Ayo: An igbo girl.

Mami: Why an igbo girl, what happened to Funke?

Ayo: Mami, Funke and I part ways long ago, her name is Adaobi.

Mami: Lai Lai! You won’t get married to an igbo girl ooo.

Ayo: Why Mami, what happened to me marrying one?

Mami: Don’t you know that igbo girls are not good people, they are bad. You will not ooo and I won’t allow it.

Ayo: Ah! Mami , there is nothing you or anyone can do about it because I have already made up my mind.

Mami: That mind that you have made up, can still be changed, after all you haven’t married her.

Ayo: But you haven’t given me any reason to change my mind. Okay, what is your reason?

Mami: Igbo people like money too much, they can even kill their people just for it.
Ayo: Is that all?

Mami: Don’t you know that the girl you want to marry is only after your money? After they have finished sucking you dry, they will kill you and inherit all your properties.

Ayo: Hahahahaha, Mami, not everybody is like that and you watch too much naija movies.

Mami: Says who? I am telling you what I know or am I not your mother again?

Ayo: you are.
Mami: Am I not the one that carried you nine months in my tommy?

Ayo: You are.
Mami: have I ever lied to you?
Ayo: No Mami.

Mami: Then you have to listen to whatever I say to you, I will not bury my son or daughter before my time ooo, you will not marry her.

Ayo: How can you say such a thing when you do not even know her yourself, she is a nice person ooo.

Mami: Why won’t she be nice when you are a rich man, all girls are nice once they perceive that.

Ayo: Mami Please, I have made up my mind.

Mami: Against your mothers will?
Ayo: I am sorry Mami but yes.

Mami: okay then, if that is what you will say but don’t say I didn’t warn you ooo.

Ayo: ‘It won’t come to that’ he said stubbornly.

Mami: I have told you my own ooo.
Ayo: I have heard.

Mami: seeing that Ayo has made up his mind, decided to let it go ‘When is she coming to visit me?

Ayo: Wow Mami, are you saying you have agreed?

Mami: Don’t ask me that question my friend, when is she coming to visit me or are we not important again?

Ayo: Thanks Mami he hugged her ‘I will bring her to you one of these day’s.

Mami: Good for I will be waiting to see her.

Ayo: ‘Thanks Mami’ he said again.

While Adoabi was still with her family in the village for she came to pay them a visit. Chidi and Chigozie were happy that she will soon be getting married.

Chidi: When Papa told us, we were very happy.

Adaobi: Really?

Chigozie: Of course. At least you will have somebody to take care of you a little.

Adoabi: Thanks guys, I am very happy. What else did Papa tell you guys?

Chidi: Nothing else just that your suitor will soon be coming.

Chigozie: Where is he from?
Adobi: He is from Ekiti State.
Chidi: Wow! So you want to get married to Yoruba man?

Adaobi: Yes, is anything wrong with that?
Chidi: Nothing oooo, it’s just that they like party too much and are dirty people.

Adaobi: Hhahaahaha who told you that?
Chigozie: That’s what people say or aren’t they?

Adaobi: Well, it depends and you do know that some igbo people too are dirty.

Chidi: Yes but their own is extreme.

Adaobi: Hahahahaha chidi, you won’t kill me.

Chigozie: but it is true that they like party too much isn’t it?

Adaobi: Well, I won’t argue with that because the man I want to get married to like Party too much.

Chigozie: it means that your wedding will be big, naming ceremony a big party will be thrown, child dedication, party too. Even baby showers and bachelor eve party too.

Adaobi: I do not know about that until we get there, you know I am not a party freak.

Chigozie: if his family likes it, you will have to adopt.

Adaobi: You are right sha.
Chidi: Do you love him?
Adaobi: Yes I do.
Chigozie: What is his name?
Adaobi: His name is Ayo.

Chidi: We would still be close as ever even though you are getting married abi?

Adaobi: Why, you think I won’t be there for you?
Chidi: It’s not that, just that hope marriage would change your behavior towards us and Papa.

Adaobi: Why are you saying this? I love you guys so very much and whether I get married or not, I will always be there for you guys because you are my responsibilities.

Chidi: I love you so very much and I will miss you.

Adobi: ‘I love you too’ she went and hugged him ‘I won’t miss you because you are always welcomed in my house.

Chigozie: Can we come and live with you?

Adaobi: I can’t believe you are asking me that question but someone will have to stay here and take care of Papa and that Person is you for your school is close to the house. You should be visiting Papa every weekend and when I am on my own, I will look for someone who will be taking care of him always or he will come and live with me permanently.

Chigozie: ‘Okay’ he smiled.

Mami: Kemi, where have you been for the past three days that to call your mother and inform her that you won’t be home is difficult for you.

Kemi: Mami I am sorry, Is it not Bummi that kept me in her house, she didn’t want me to live saying that the house is too boring and she can’t stay alone.

Mami: Is that why you refused to call?
Kemi: I am sorry Mami, it escaped my mind.
Mami: Because I am not important na. you and Ayo are turning into something else.

Kemi: Wow, brother Ayo was here?
Mami: Yes he was.
Kemi: I missed him ooooo, when?

Mami: So I am now a bad person.
Kemi: I didn’t say that, I am only asking.
Mami: Call him and find out.
Kemi: Okay.

Mami: By the way, he will be getting married very soon.

Kemi: Really, wow! So I will soon be having a sister in law, that is nice.

Mami: Yes it is nice for soon, you won’t be receiving all this alert you have been receiving.

Kemi: Mami, that is a lie for Brother Ayo loves me his only sister so much, he won’t do that.

Mami: Watch and see then.
Kemi: it seems you don’t like her.
Mami: I don’t.
Kemi: Did he come with her?
Mami: He didn’t.
Kemi: Why don’t you like her then?
Mami: Because she is an igbo girl.
Kemi: hmmm.
Mami: What?
Kemi: I reserve my comment.

Mami: na you sabi, just make sure you are here when she comes.

Kemi: Yes Mami.

Episode 5

Mami: was glad that Kemi asked her the question she wanted to ask but didn’t know how to put it to make Adaobi not to feel umcomfortable with her but as soon as Kemi asked the question, she saw the surprised look in Adaobi’s eyes and also saw that she was uncomfortable but said nothing about it and kept looking at her.

Adaobi: Ermmm, it is not his money that I am in love with but the man himself.

Kemi: That’s what all of you will say.

Mami: Kemi, how can you say such nonsense from your mouth?

Adaobi, Please do not mind her. She doesn’t use to listen to most of the words that comes out of her mouth.

Adaobi: it’s okay, I can understand her fears.
Mami: I am so glad you understand. By the way, what do your parents do for a living?

Adaobi: Actually, my Mom is late and my dad is a retired civil servant.

Mami: So, he doesn’t have any business or anything that he is doing or a business that someone is running for him?

Adaobi: No he doesn’t, he only has a small farm he manages when he is strong to go to the farm.

Mami: A farm?
Adaobi: Yes a farm.

Kemi: A big poultry farm?
Adaobi: No, not a big poultry farm. Just a one man’s farm to keep himself busy.

Mami: Hmmmm. How many are you in your family?

Adaobi: We are three in my family. I have two junior brothers.
Mami: You are the first child?
Adaobi: Yes.

Mami: looked at her and was lost for words for Adaobi is just a poor girl who is trying to reach the high status. She is indeed beautiful and I am sure that is the only reason my son likes her she thought to herself ‘Errmmm, I am so very hungry, can you go to the kitchen and get something ready for us to eat.

Adaobi: Ermmmm, what?

Mami: I am hungry, I need you to prepare something delicious.

Adaobi: Ermmm, she looked at Kemi.

Mami: ‘She has not been feeling fine, don’t mind the way she talks’ she lied ‘it’s when she is sick that she says stupid things.

Adaobi: ‘Alright Mami, I will go and get dinner ready for you guys’ she stood up and went to the kitchen.

Mami: after she left, she clapped her hands and smiled at her daughter ‘so this is the girl he wants to marry, a pauper?

Kemi: she fine sha.

Mami: Na fine my pikin go chop? I do not like her.

Kemi: Why Mami?
Mami: Because she is an igbo girl, I hate igbo people eh!

Kemi: Wetin igbo people do you? I have friends that are igbo and they are nice ooo.

Mami: I do not care, I don’t just like this one.
Kemi: Mami, this is her first day here, you shouldn’t be harsh on her.

Mami: Will you shut up there? Stay there and be acting all nice, this woman will take away your only brother and the love he has for you will be no more.

Kemi: I do not agree with you.

Mami: Okay na, watch and see. Don’t say I did not tell you ooo.

Kemi: I hear.

Papa: Emenike, I called you here because there is something I will like to discuss with you.

Emenike: What is it Azubike for that is the name he usually calls his junior brother? Hope you haven’t sold the only piece of land that you have?

Papa: No! How can I sell the only thing I have left?

Emenike: Thank God then, what is it you want to talk to me about?

Papa: is about Adaobi.

Emenike: What is wrong with her?

Papa: She said that one of these days, the man that want to marry her will be coming.

Emenike: Hahahahaaha…really? At last, the gods of our land has answered my prayers.

Papa: Emenike, Please sit down and let us talk?

Emenike: ‘Relax and let me Thank the Gods’ he moved around chanting some incantations, raise his hands up in the air and said ‘Dalu, you have done it’ after that he sat with his brother to continue their discussion.

Papa: Are you done?

Emenike: I am done oooo. Do you know how I have been wandering about this Adaobi not getting married? I was beginning to think that there is a problem somewhere.

Papa: There is no problem anywhere, it just wasn’t her time.

Emenike: Well, we thank the gods anyway. So now, what is it you really want to tell me concerning that matter?

Papa: I wanted to just tell you to get yourself ready because as soon as she informs me of the date he is coming, I will let you know. As my senior brother, it is only right that you are in the house when he comes.

Emenike: That is a good one and it is fine by me. Errrmm, who is he and where is he from?

Papa: Well, according to my daughter, she said he is a Yoruba guy from Ekiti state.

Emenike: Ekiti kwa? So she didn’t see all these our fine igbo boys to marry,is from another region that she saw a man? Why didn’t you tell her it must be an igbo man?

Papa : My daughter has made her decision and all I have to do is support her,I do not want anything to make her unhappy.

Emenike: Hmmmm okay oooo. What does he do for a living?

Episode 6

Papa: I think he is an Engineer and he does other businesses too.

Emenike: Good, that is good. What other businesses does he do?

Papa: I have no idea, I didn’t really ask until he comes.

Emenike: is he rich?

Papa: Bia Emenike, what kind of question is that? it is your type that goes around spoiling the image of the igbos. How can you ask me that question?

Emenike: and what is wrong with me asking you if the man our daughter wants to marry is rich?

Papa: why didn’t you ask me if she is really happy about her decision?

Emenike: Why do I need to ask you that? of course she is happy because if she isn’t, she won’t tell you anything about it. Is he rich?

Papa: I do not know and I don’t care if he is., all I know is that if my daughter is happy with him and his financial status, fine by me.

Emenike: Hmmm okay, when he comes, let me know sha for I will find out on my own.

Papa: Bia Emenike, do not do what you did to chinenye’s husband when he came to ask for your daughter’s hand in marriage oooo, I won’t accept it if you try doing it on my daughter.

Emenike: What did I do?

Papa: You sucked the man dry simply because of bride price. Were you selling your daughter away?

Emenike: She is my daughter and I know that I won’t really be having whatever I want that was why it was like that.

Papa: you have done your own with your daughter; don’t carry that method to my side, she is my daughter and not yours.

Emenike: Ehen, so now she is your daughter? As if you didn’t get anything from the money that Chinenye’s husband gave to us.

Papa: I have told you oooo, I will not tolerate that behavior.

Adaobi: Here, Mami, dinner is served.
Mami: Where is it?
Adaobi: In the dining room.

Mami: stood and went to the dining to have her dinner while Kemi followed behind.

Kemi: ‘you prepared vegetable soup’ she asked as soon as she opened the plate in front of her and ‘and eba?’

Adaobi: Yes I did and I hope you will enjoy it.
Kemi: I pray oooo.

Mami: tasted the meal and was amazed for it was so delicious.

Adaobi: How is it Mami?
Mami: it’s okay, you tried.
Adaobi: Thank you.
Mami: have a seat and join us ‘you have to eat oooo’ .

Adaobi: Okay and she sat down to eat. When they were all done with the food, she carried the plates to the kitchen and washed them. After that, she joined them in the sitting room where they were watching a movie on African Magic and watched with them also.

Mami: Adaobi, Kemi will show you the guest room where you will pass the night.

Adaobi: Okay Ma.

Mami: Did you come with any clothes?
Adaobi: No I didn’t for I didn’t know you will want me to spend the night here.

Mami: Kemi will give you hers for you to use tonight, Sorry for the impromptu stay.

Adaobi: No problem.

Mami bid them goodnight and told Kemi what to do. They stayed up for a few hours before Adaobi told Kemi to show her to her room and she did, gave her clothes to change to and bid her goodnight.

The following morning, Adaobi woke up very early in the morning to clean the house and went she was done, she had her bath and made breakfast for them.

Adaobi: Good morning Mami.
Mami: how was your night, hope you slept well?
Adaobi: I did Mami.

Mami: I can see my house is looking so clean, thanks for your effort.

Adaobi: your welcome.

Mami: Where is my daughter?
Adaobi: I don’t know, I haven’t seen her, she should probably be in her room sleeping.

Mami: Alright.

Adaobi: Wont you go to church today?
Mami: No not today. I am really tired.
Adaobi: Alright.
Mami: What about you?

Adaobi: I wont for I didn’t come with any clothes except this one.
Mami: Have you had your bath?

Adaobi: Yes I did, I was also able to wash the clothes Kemi gave me last night.

Mami: Good, that’s very good. You know that I also have some clothes to wash right?

Adaobi: Really?
Mami: Yes.

Adaobi: Is the washing machine not working?
Mami: No it isn’t, it broke down three days ago and the person to repair it isn’t here yet. Maybe during the week he will make himself available.

Adaobi: okay, you can bring them and I will wash them for you.

Episode 7

Mami: went into her room to bring both clean and dirty clothes for her to wash and dropped them on the floor in front of her ‘here they are, I hope they are not too much’.

Adaobi: seeing the clothes and knowing what Mami is up to picked them up, smiled and said ‘it wasn’t’. She went to the bathroom where they was already detergent waiting for her already and started washing the clothes.

Kemi woke up from bed feeling very hungry, went to the dining and saw that breakfast was already set; she sat down, ate and asked her mother where Adaobi was if she is still sleeping after eating.

Kemi: Mami, where is Adaobi?

Mami: so you don’t know how to greet again abi? You just woke up, you didn’t even ask who prepared the meal you are eating, you just dived into it and after that you are asking me of Adaobi.

Kemi: Mami, I am sorry, I was very hungry. The meal is delicious sha, you did well.

Mami: Adaobi prepared it.
Kemi: That is nice of her, where is she sef?
Mami: In the bathroom washing.

Kemi: ‘Okay’ she stood up and left saying ‘i need to add my clothes too’. when she got to where she was, she dropped her clothes instructing her to wash them and iron them when she is done.

Adaobi: Kemi, you can’t possibly add your clothes to the ones I am washing, why don’t you come and join hands lets wash them together.

Kemi: I can’t, I am too tired, Can’t you wash my clothes?

Adaobi: I can if you were incapable but in this case, you are not.

Kemi: My mother told me to add my clothes so that you will wash them.

Adaobi: For what reason?

Kemi: Meaning.

Adaobi: Why would Mami say so? Why would she ask me to wash your clothes when there is nothing wrong with you?

Kemi: Maybe you should go and ask her.

Adaobi: ‘ Alright’ She said and went to ask Mami who was in the sitting room relaxing ‘Mami, did you say that I should also wash Kemi’s clothes when she is doing nothing?

Mami: Why can’t you or do you have a problem with that?

Adaobi: it is just a question Ma.
Mami: Wash it.

Adaobi: ‘ Okay Mami’ she said and left. When she was done, she hung the clothes and waited for Ayo to come pick her immediately for she already gave him a call. Few minutes later, Kemi went to check if her clothes were well washed and hung only to find out that they were all soaked in a bucket in the bathroom. She was angry and went to report to her mother.

Kemi: ‘Mami, do you know that Adaobi didn’t wash my clothes’ she fumed.

Mami: Are you sure?

Kemi: My clothes are soaked inside a bucket in the bathroom.

Mami: Ah Ah! But I instructed her to do so.
Kemi: She didn’t Mami.
Mami: go and call her for me.

Kemi: went to call Adaobi who was sitting on the bed waiting for Ayo to come pick her for she couldn’t and didn’t want to spend another day there.

Adaobi: Kemi said you asked for me.

Mami: Yes I did, why didn’t you wash her clothes?

Adaobi: Pardon?

Mami: Why didn’t you wash my daughter’s clothes?

Adaobi: but what is wrong with Kemi washing her own clothes, why do I have to be the one to do it?

Mami: but I told you to, didn’t i?

Adaobi: But Mami….just then, Ayo entered the house.

Ayo: ‘Hello every one? How is my wifey doing’ he went and gave a peck on her cheek saying are you ready? He turned to look at his mother and sister and turned to looked at Adaobi again ‘is everything all right?

Adaobi: Yes everything is fine.
Mami: says who?
Ayo: Mami, what’s wrong?

Kemi: the wifey or the woman you want to bring into our home is disrespectful, she disrespected Mami.

Adaobi: Ayo let me explain please.
Ayo: Go to the car and wait for me please.
Adaobi: But Ayo…..

Ayo: ‘I said go to the car and wait for me’ he ordered. As soon as she was gone he asked ‘Mami, what really happened?

Mami: she…..

Kemi: Mami gave her my clothes to wash but she refused, instead she soaked them for me to do it, can you imagine?

Mami: will you shut up your mouth before I shut it up for you? Turning to Ayo she said ‘I told her to wash some of Kemi’s clothes but she didn’t.

Ayo: Why will you give her Kemi’s clothes to wash, cant Kemi wash her own clothes again?

Mami: Is that what you will say to me Ayo? So I can’t give her simple instructions without she saying no? Now that she is not married to you she is showing her true characters, what if she is now married, I won’t say anything to her that she will do.

Ayo: I am not saying that and I am sorry if she didn’t do it but I still do not know why you will give her Kemi’s clothes to wash, I mean she is Kemi’s senior and as such respect should be accorded to her.

Mami: and what is wrong with me giving her my daughter’s clothes when she was washing my clothes?

Ayo: On her behalf I am or she is very sorry.

Mami: There is no point apologizing on her behalf, I do not like her.

She is a pauper and from a poor family, she is not good for you.

Episode 8

Ayo: Ah Mami, why are you saying this?
Mami: Didn’t you hear what I just said, she is not good for your social status, I do not want you to marry her.

Ayo: it won’t happen Mami because I have already made up my mind and there is nothing you or anybody can do about it.

Mami: it is either me or her and so you choose.

Ayo: ‘I will talk to you when you are less angry’ he said and left the house. When he got to his car, he met Adaobi crying ‘Why are you crying’?

Adaobi: ‘Nothing’ she wiped away her tears.

Ayo: I am sorry for everything; you shouldn’t put anything to heart.

Adaobi: I tried Ayo, I really tried.

Ayo: ‘I know you did, let’s go home’ and together they went to his house.

Two weeks later, Ayo went with Adaobi to make his intentions known.

When he got there, he was welcomed by her father, siblings and Uncle.

Papa: My son, you are very welcome to our humble home.

Ayo: Thank you sir.

Papa: What did you say brings you here again?
Ayo: I came to ask for your daughter’s hand in marriage.

Papa: My only daughter?

Ayo: Yes sir, if you will permit me for I will like to make her my wife.

Emenike: Adaobi! Adaobi! Yes sir she answered ‘Come here’ he said.

When Adaobi came he asked is she the person you want to marry?

Ayo: Yes sir, she is the one.

Emenike: Turning to Adaobi ‘do you know him’?
Adaobi: Yes sir.

Emenike: He has come to ask for your hand in marriage, what do you have to say?

Adaobi: ‘ Okay sir’ she answered shyly.

Emenike: Okay is not an answer my child, will you like to marry him?

Adaobi: Yes sir.

Emenike : ‘You may go in Adaobi’ and she left.

Papa: Hmmm, She is my one and only daughter and since you have come to pluck the flower in my compound with our permission you are welcomed.

Ayo: Thank you.

Emenike: You will need to come with your people for that is the only way we know you are serious and that your people are in support of it.

Ayo: That won’t be a problem and with your permission, we will be here in the next weekend if that is okay.

Papa: That is okay with us.

Ayo: ‘ Thank you sir and please take this as a token of appreciation’ he gave them the wine he brought.

Emenike: who collected marveled at the sight of the wine for it was imported ‘this is so nice and thank you.

Ayo: ‘You are welcome’ After a few minutes he left them and went to his place.

One week later, Ayo came with his people and the marriage agreement between Adaobi and Ayo was agreed upon. He was told that they will send him the list in a few days.

Few days later Emenike who was with Papa called Adaobi to the sitting room.

Emenike: Ada Nwam, I want you to tell what is his name again?

Adaobi: Who sir?

Papa: Ayo.

Emenike: Ehen, Ayo, I want you to tell him to come and collect the list as soon as possible.

Adaobi: Okay Sir, I will inform him today and hopefully, he will come for it.

Emenike: That is okay, we will be available.

The following day, Ayo came in company of his uncle to collect the list, they were welcomed and Emenike presented the list to them.

Ayo’s Uncle Opened the list to go through what was inside and gave it to Ayo to look at while Adaobi was in the room listening attentively to what was said.

Ayo: ‘Ah, Sir! Papa! This list is too much.

Emenike: What is too much about our list? Do you know how we suffered in training our only daughter to the university? How we moulded her image and character?

Ayo: Ermmm, I am sorry sir but from what I see here, I can see fathers list, Mothers list, brothers list, sisters list, family list, elders list and village list including Umu Ada list, If I sum up everything I see here, it’s going to cost me one million plus.

Emenike: And so? Aren’t you man enough to shoulder that responsibility?

Papa: ‘My son, Please let me have that list’ He collected it and went through it again.

Emenike: Don’t you know that you are taking our pride and joy away from us?

Ayo’s Uncle: Please our in-laws, it is through that we are coming to pluck a beautiful flower but don’t you think that this list presented to us is too much for a young man?

Emenike: A young man you said, isn’t he the one that want to marry our daughter? His ability to provide for what is in that list will prove to us if he can really take care of her.

Ayo’s Uncle: I agree with you no doubt, but it is still too much.

Emenike: Bia my son, are you really capable of taking care of our daughter?

Ayo: Very well sir.

Emenike: Then that list on your hand is the only way to prove it.

Ayo’s Uncle: My in-law…he was interrupted by Ayo.

Ayo: Uncle don’t worry, I will provide everything necessary.

Ayo’s Uncle: But Ayo?
Ayo: Uncle, do not worry.

Emenike: Now you are talking, Provide all that is written there and our daughter is yours for life.

Ayo: ‘Yes sir’ after a few minutes, they stood, bid them farewell and left. As he was about to enter his car with his uncle, Adaobi stopped them.

Adaobi: Ayo, don’t you want to see me before leaving? Can I see the list?

Episode 9

Adaobi: ‘Jesus Christ, this list is too much’ she said when it was handed to her.

Ayo’s Uncle: Very much. I told him but he said he can handle it.

Adaobi: Why didn’t you put up a fight?

Ayo: why should I, they are going to be my in-laws and putting up a fight will seem like I am rude or something.

Ayo’s Uncle: Why didn’t you let me in then?
Ayo: I didn’t want you to bother because I know that I can afford it.

Adaobi: That is not an excuse; you shouldn’t have accepted the list.

Ayo: and risk not making you my wife? No way, Don’t bother yourself sweetheart, I can manage it.

Adaobi: ‘Alright if you say so’ She bid them goodbye and went to her house ‘Papa, I thought I told you to help me out?

Papa: I didn’t know what was inside that list, I thought I spoke to your uncle but he didn’t adhere to what I said.

Adaobi: Didn’t you go through the list?

Papa: I never did and I didn’t want to say anything while our guest was around so that it wouldn’t seem like I am disrespecting him.

Turning to his brother he said ‘are you satisfied?

Emenike: I am not until everything in the list is brought.

Papa: The list is just too much, you should call the young man back and give him a new list.

Emenike: For what?

Papa: The list for the father, mother and sister should be scraped; we won’t be in need of them. The only thing that should be necessary in that list is that of the elders of the village and the Umu ada that’s all.

Emenike: Why should they?

Papa: because I am her father and it won’t be necessary.

Emenike: Well, I am also her father and she has sisters for my children are her sisters and brothers.

Adaobi: that is not necessary Uncle.
Emenike: well it is very, very important
Papa: that list should be scraped out.

Emenike: What? Listen, you can scrap yours but you cannot scrap all others. you want to only give the elders of our village and Umu Ada something forgetting that you have a family.

Papa: I have said my own, I am not selling my daughter.

Emenike: What about that of your son’s, wont they have anything?

Papa: They won’t. I am sure all they will want is for their sister to be well taken care of and happy and even if they want something, it is not what is on that list. A simple wine will do.

Emenike: ‘Hmmm, isn’t he a rich man? Why do you want to bother yourself when he can afford it? Or you want to be the only one to enjoy him when you get married abi’ he said to Adaobi.

Adaobi: It is not that Uncle, I just feel it is not right to extort an innocent man like that.

Papa: Adaobi my daughter, when next you talk to him, tell him that we have agreed that all other items is not necessary except for the elders and Umu Ada If he cannot provide them.

Adaobi: Yes Papa, I will tell him about it.

Ayo drove straight to his parents’ house with his Uncle to tell them the good news and soon, wedding preparations will start.

Ayo: Mami, I have gone to collect the list.
Mami: Ehen! I didn’t even know that you have gone to see her people in the first place.

Ayo: I did that with Uncle today.
Mami: Are you alright?
Ayo: What do you mean Mami.

Mami: Didn’t I tell you and made it clear to you that I do not like that girl.

Ayo: Mami please don’t start please.

Ayo’s Uncle: But what is wrong with the girl he has chosen for himself to marry?

Mami: Everything oooo, everything. My spirit does not accept her at all and she is an igbo girl. They too like money, They will drain him of all his resources.

Ayo Uncle: Hmmmm.

Mami: Yes ooooo. She is also disrespectful. Infact eh, I don’t want that girl near you anymore. Do you hear me?

Ayo: Mami, it won’t happen ooo that girl is the love of my life.

Mami: She doesn’t love you but your money, You see all the pretense that ladies do pretend? Wait till they get married and you will see their true colors. She doesn’t love you but your money and once you get married to her, her family, mother, father, brothers, sisters, all extended family will be your responsibility. They will suck you and keep sucking you till they dry up your well.

Ayo Uncle: Hmmmm

Mami: Uncle Ayo, you won’t talk to him now abi? What is all this hmmm for?

Ayo Uncle: I am speechless because we have collected the list today and it seems what you are saying is true.

Mami: What do you mean?

Ayo: Uncle Ayo please don’t go there.

Ayo Uncle: She is your mother Ayo and she has to know the truth.

Mami: ‘What truth? What do I have to know’ she asked as she looked at the both of them ‘will somebody tell me what is going on?’

Ayo Uncle: It is nothing serious oooo, it is just that the list they gave us is too much.

Mami: What list?

Ayo: The list we were given in preparation for the wedding?

Mami: Where is it? Let me see it. Ayo handed it to her ‘Egbami! Hey, what is all this? They want to finish all the money you have even before you get married, I told you didn’t i?

Ayo Uncle: We tried pleading with them that it was too much but they wouldn’t hear of it.

Mami: I said it, their extortion has just begun. Didn’t I warn you Ayo, didn’t i? This marriage whatever is cancelled.

Episode 10

Ayo: Mami Please, don’t start. That is the reason I didn’t inform you in the first place because I knew you were not going to be in support.

Mami: and you went against my will Ayo, I am your mother ooo and not an outsider.

Ayo: I am sorry Mami but please I need you to be in support. Adaobi is a very nice person.

Mami: Why won’t you say that when she has given you love portion to eat.

Ayo Uncle: Ayo, I think you should listen to your mother.

Ayo: Uncle please, not you too.

Mami: Look at the list; take a look at the list, doesn’t it say anything?

Ayo: Mami, it is just a list and I can provide whatever they are asking for.

Mami: Is that what you told them? So you have gone to show-case to them abi?

Ayo: Mami na, Uncle please help me talk to her.
Mami: There is no need talking because if you like talk today and tomorrow, my mind is made up.

Ayo: Hmmmm, alright, I have heard. If my own mother decides not to attend my wedding, I will understand.

Ayo Uncle: Seeing that the tension in the house was getting high, decided to deviate from the topic ‘Ermmm, where is Kemi?

Mami: That one, she went to school, i don’t know when she will be back.

During the week, Adaobi paid a visit to Ayo. After preparing his meal for him, he finished eating and they discussed how their wedding is going to be.

Adaobi: I know that you are bothered about the list, I still wonder why you didn’t reject it.

Ayo: If I should do that, it means I won’t marry you again na.

Adaobi: So you will provide everything in it?
Ayo: Yes for I can do.
Adaobi: Won’t it be too much on you?
Ayo: Nah, I am good.

Adaobi: ‘Any way, after you left my house the other day, my father, uncle and I had a talk concerning the list and we came to a conclusion that you should only provide what the elders and Umu Ada wants, you can skip the rest’ she said smiling.

Ayo: That won’t be necessary.
Adaobi: Meaning?

Ayo: Meaning that I will get everything as soon as possible or if I can’t, I will give them the equivalent in form of cash.

Adaobi: But I said you can skip the others.
Ayo: and I said you shouldn’t worry that I can do it.

Adaobi: No, isn’t that too much?

Ayo: It isn’t and please don’t start, I don’t want you to add yours, my mother is already compounding issues.

Adaobi: What issues?
Ayo: Issues about marriage and stuff.
Adaobi: It’s about me isn’t it?
Ayo: No and why did you say so?

Adaobi: Because after I left your place, you never said anything to me about her or Kemi. Are you guys having issues because of me?

Ayo: No.
Adaobi: stop lying to me Ayo.
Ayo: Who says I am.
Adaobi: Yes you are.
Ayo: What’s making you say that?
Adaobi: Because when you lie, you don’t look me straight in the eyes.

Ayo: Okay, we are having issues and my mom is not in support of me marrying an igbo lady.

Adaobi: I knew it, I knew she never liked me from the moment I stepped my legs into your house. I know she also thinks that I may be after your money.

Ayo: I didn’t say so.
Adaobi: You don’t have to.

Ayo: just give her time, she will come around.

Adaobi: Looking at him for a few minutes and wondered if what she is about to say is the right thing but she made up her mind to say it anyway ‘I am not too sure’.

Ayo: What do you suggest then.

Adaobi: Hmmm….i love you, I really do love you but if your family won’t accept me for who I am without being biased, I think we should call everything off.

Ayo: ‘What did you just say’ he screamed.

Adaobi: I am saying we should forget about everything.

Ayo: Are you out of your mind? Do you even know what you just said?

Adaobi: I do and I am going to say it again, let us quit for it…..

Ayo: Just stop, I don’t want to hear you say nonsense again.

Adaobi: it is not nonsense Ayo; I cannot go into a family that will not accept me as theirs. I am not going into a family that will make me miserable for my whole life.

Ayo: ‘And so what, because of them you want to let go of me?

Because of my family’ he screamed.

Adaobi: I am sorry but it is the best. I can’t think of marrying in a family where I won’t be accepted.

Ayo: Are you serious? Tell me this is a joke please and if it is, stop for I am not finding it funny.

Adaobi: it isn’t Ayo! God knows that you are the man I want as a life partner but if the people we love are not happy with our union, why go ahead with it? This is the only solution to everyones piece of mind.

Ayo: Don’t say that again please, I don’t want to hear such nonsense.

Adaobi: I am sorry, that is the best decision for us right now.

Episode 11

Ayo: Us! You say us? What is good about us going our separate ways? That is not a good idea for I won’t have it, did you hear me?

Adaobi: But Ayo!

Ayo: Don’t Ayo me, I said I won’t have it.

Adaobi: Alright, if that is the case, I want you to give us sometime before we go through with the marriage plan.

Ayo: Because of my mother?

Adaobi: Ayo, try and understand me and my pain here, this isn’t what I want, you know that I would never suggest we break up but your mother and your sister isn’t in support of it. If we can’t break up, then let’s give them some time. If by that time, your mother approves of me then I will be happy to have you as my husband and if she doesn’t, you can go ahead and marry another woman.

Ayo: I don’t like this one bit.

Adaobi: You do not have a choice here; it’s either that or the latter.

Ayo: Alright, I will think about it.
Adaobi: I am sorry for all this; you do know that I love you very much right?

Ayo: I know what you mean, I know that you love me very much and I do the same too.

Adaobi: ‘Thanks dear’ she said and the hugged.

Mami: ‘Kemi! Kemi’! She called out to her daughter as she stepped into her home with a lady ‘Kemi! Kemi!’

Kemi: Yes Mami, I am coming.

Mami: My dear, make yourself at home for this is now your house from now on ‘Kemi’!.

Kemi: Mami na, this one you are calling me like this, I hope all is well.

Mami: All is very very well because as you see me so eh, I am very happy right now. In fact, I am the happiest woman in the whole world right now.

Kemi: ‘Hello’ she said to the young lady who came with her mother and turned to her mother again ‘Mami, this one you are happy and what is making you happy? Who is this lady here with us?

Mami: she is the reason I am happy, Kemi meet your sister in-law to be and Kehinde, meet my daughter your future sister to be too.

Kehinde: Hello Kemi, its nice meeting you.
Kemi: Same here, you do have a nice name. Are you a twin?

Kehinde: Yes but my twin brother died five years ago.

Kemi: Wow, so sorry to hear that and you are welcome to our home.

Kehinde: Thank you very much.

Kemi: Mami, why did you say she is my sister in-law?

Mami: Because she is going to be very very soon.

Kemi: How do you mean, I don’t understand.
Mami: she is going to be your brother’s wife.
Kemi: Mami, didn’t you tell me the other day that he went to collect the marriage list from his people.

Mami: Don’t stress yourself, that marriage will not work.

Kemi: Hmmm Mami, I am not sure Ayo is going to like this one bit.

Mami: Will you shut up your mouth my friend, how can you say such nonsense in front of my guest here, take this money and go to the market. Buy foodstuff and prepare special meal for Kehinde. Make sure it is very tasty oooo.

Kemi: ‘Yes Mami’ she collected the money, went to get dressed and left for market.

Mami: Eh My daughter.
Kehinde: Yes Mami.

Mami: Don’t mind her and her stupid talk. Don’t worry, my son said he is going to come home today and you are going to see him. I am sure you will love him and he in turn will love you back.

Kehinde: I hope so Mami, I hope the other girl has not stolen his heart.

Mami: Stolen ke? Even if she has done so, you will steal it back from her. You will have to do anything possible to make him yours.

Kehinde: What if he still doesn’t want me?
Mami: Then you will have to go extreme.
Kehinde: How, I don’t understand.
Mami: I mean that if you use all your charms on him and he still doesn’t fall, you will have to get pregnant as soon as possible.

Kehinde: Will he still accept it?

Mami: That is not a question oooo, he will have no other option than to. For no child of mine will give birth outside wedlock.

Kehinde: Hmmm, I will do all you say Mami, I will try my best.

Mami: That is good but in this case, you will have to do and give more than your best.

Kehinde: Yes Mami.

Later in the evening, Ayo came in to meet his Mom, sister and Kehinde chatting.

Ayo: Hello Mami, Kemi how are you doing?
Kemi: Welcome home brother.

Mami: Welcome my son, how was work today?
Ayo: ‘it was stressful as usual’ he said as he sat down beside her.

Kehinde: ‘Hi’ she said smiling.
Ayo: ‘Hello’ he answered ‘Mami, who is this pretty lady with us here today?

Mami: she is pretty isn’t she?
Ayo: Very very.
Mami: You admire her?

Ayo: Mami, what do you mean by that? of course she is beautiful, who wouldn’t admire a beautiful lady?

Mami: That is good to know ‘Kehinde this is my son, the one I was talking to you about and Ayo meet my friends daughter, you wife to be.

Episode 12

Ayo: My what?

Mami: Your wife, she is beautiful, a graduate from a class of high social status and will make you a good wife. I have accepted her with all my heart already.

Ayo: Really, when was the arrangement made and why wasn’t I informed?

Mami: Because I am your mother and I can never be wrong in my judgment. You see that woman you chose as a wife, she is not a good woman for you and this one here is.

Ayo: Mami, you still haven’t answered my question, Why wasn’t I informed about this?

Mami: Because there was no need and I knew you would object to it.

Ayo: What makes you think that I can’t object to that now?

Mami: Ah! You won’t ooooo, not in this life time. Kehinde here is the woman you will marry and that is final.

Ayo: Hmmm Mami, is this what you called me here for?

Mami: Yes nah, what do you think will make me call you here immediately after work?

Ayo: Mami, you are not serious oooo. Kehinde is Yoruba and of a high social status that’s why you like her abi?

Mami: Whatever Ayo, if you like say what you want to say, she is here and it is time you start planning your wedding to her.

Ayo: Mami!

Kemi: But Brother Ayo, what is wrong with Kehinde, I like her already.
Ayo: ‘Will you shut up your mouth’ turning to his mother he said ‘Mami

I don’t like what you are doing ooooo, I don’t like it one bit’.

Mami: ‘Will you shut up that gutter of a mouth there before I shut it up for you with my hands, Ayo, I gave birth to you and you sucked my breast and on no account will you go against me. You see Kehinde here, you will marry her whether you like it or not and over my dead body will I allow you marry that Igbotic human being you call Adaobi’

she said and turned to Kehinde ‘My daughter, don’t mind him for his is very head strong and needs a woman like you to tame him. I will leave you two to get to know each other well’ she said and walked away leaving kehinde and Ayo all alone and Kemi followed suit.

Kehinde: Already feeling uncomfortable about the whole situation decided to brace herself and act well for he may find her pleasing ‘Ayo,I know what you must be going through and believe me I am already uncomfortable about this situation but maybe our parents mean well for us.

Ayo: By forcing you and I on each other?
Kehinde: is anything wrong with that?
Ayo: Everything is wrong for I am in love with someone else.

Kehinde: even against your mothers wish?
Ayo: I wish she could just easily accept her the way she accepts you, I wish she could feel my pain and my heart.

Kehinde: I am sorry for every pain you must be going through.

Ayo: There is no need apologizing, it isn’t your fault.

Kehinde: What do we do now?
Ayo: I don’t know, I really don’t know.
Kehinde: What if your parents never come around in accepting her?

Ayo: I am at a cross road here.

Kehinde: it’s okay, you need not stress yourself too much about it. If we cannot be lovers, can we at least be friends for now?

Ayo: Of course why not, I don’t have a problem with that.

Kehinde: Thank you.

Ayo: No, it is me that should be thanking you, thank you for understanding.

Kehinde: ‘You are welcome’ she said smiling. They chatted for few hours about life in general and when it was getting dark, Ayo bid them goodbye and left to his house.

Mami: I am curious to know Kehinde, what were you people talking about that took so long, has he finally accepted you.

Kehinde: Mami nothing much, we just talked about life in general.

Mami: Ehen! What do you think of my son?
Kehinde: To be sincere with you, I more than like him, infact, I love him. I love him sincerity and honesty, his charisma, I love everything about him.

Mami: Ehen! Is it not my son, the apple of my eye? I trained him well oooo.

Kehinde: ‘Mami you did well and I promise you that Ayo will be mine soonest’ she said smiling.

Mami: I hope soo oooo but come ooo, what were you people gisting and laughing about?

Kehinde: Nothing oooo, just the happenings in niaja.

Mami: Really, Hmmm I thought you people were getting to know each other better?

Kehinde: Mami, that is one way of getting to know someone better.

Mami: How can happenings about life getting to know someone better?

Kehinde: By talking about that, I get to know how he thinks and his perspective about life in general. Besides, I am also trying to create a bond.

Mami: What bond?

Kehinde: I am trying to be his very good friend and from friends we become lovers. That is the only way that I can penetrate his heart easily for that girl has a strong hold on him

Mami: That is good, I wonder what kind of igbo witch that she has given my son to eat.

Kehinde: I will win his heart in due time.

Mami: The earlier you start getting right to it the better. I want the memories of that girl off his mind for good and forever.

Kemi: ‘Mami, why do you hate her so much’ she asked for they have forgotten that she is with them while lost in their conversation.

Kehinde: Don’t you want me to be your sister in-law Kemi?

Kemi: I don’t have a problem with that but if you force him to marry you don’t you think that the both of you will be miserable for the rest of your life?

Mami: ‘Who called you into this conversation? Will you go to your room before I descend on you?’

Kemi: ‘looked at her mother and shook her head ‘When I want to get married Mami, don’t try this thing you are doing with Brother Ayo with me ooo for I won’t take it. Its either you accept the man I want to marry or your on your own ooo’ she said and went to her room.

Episode 13

Ayo: ‘Hello Kehinde’ he said as he shook hands with her ‘what brings you to my office and how come you know where I work?’

Kehinde: ‘Relax Ayo, I just came to say hello’ she said as Ayo ushered
her a seat.

Ayo: Wow, thanks for checking up on me but how did you know where I work because the last time we spoke, I never told you my location.

Kehinde: You didn’t but Mami did and she told me to bring this food to you for she says that you haven’t eaten.

Ayo: My mother never cease to amaze me, when she sets her mind on something, she will do all she can to make it happen.

Kehinde: Yes she will but you have to put sentiment aside and eat her food at least. You can’t say you are angry with her not to eat her food.

Ayo: Hmmm, well you are right sha. He said, took the food flask from her, opened it and smiled at what he saw ‘My Favorite soup, Mami prepared my favorite soup, Ewedu soup with black Amala, this is a good one. He went to wash his hands, came back and started eating
the food.

Kehinde: Hope you are enjoying the meal?
Ayo: Hmmm, so very well, this is so delicious. I thought Adaobi how to prepare it.

Kehinde: Serious?

Ayo: Yes and she is good but my mother is still the best. When I taste this meal any- where, I always misses home.

Kehinde: You mean your Mom?

Ayo: Yes! I know she wants the best for me but sometimes, she doesn’t want me to breathe on my own.

Kehinde: That’s a mother’s love.
Ayo: This food is so good, it’s been long I ate something like this.

Kehinde: Then it’s a good thing I came.
Ayo: What do you mean?
Kehinde: Am glad I came with the food.
Ayo: Oh! Okay.

After he finished eating, Kehinde and Ayo talked about anything and everything, love, life and relationship.

Ayo: Am glad you came though.
Kehinde: You sure or you are looking for a way to push me out?

Ayo: No, you are really a good company.
Kehinde: Wow, that’s nice to hear.
Ayo: ‘Yea’ Few minutes later he started feeling weak and dizzy.
Kehinde: Are you okay?

Ayo: Am kind of feeling dizzy and weak and my eyes seems to be blurry, maybe it’s because I have been on this seat for a long time or…

Kehinde: Or stress.
Ayo: Yea.
Kehinde: maybe you should rest a bit.

Ayo: ‘Yea, can you help me bring my car for me; it’s parked three blocks away from this building. I need to go home’ he said as he handed her his car key.

Kehinde: ‘Sure’ she said and smiled. She collected the car key from his hand and walked majestically to the location where he parked his
car.

Ayo: couldn’t wait for her return because his head was aching so bad that he decided to call a cab to take him home while Kemi couldn’t locate his car for where he kept it was in a secluded area and it took the owners of the company around that area to show her where his car was parked because she kept calling him and he wasn’t picking his
call.

Kehinde: Good Ayo, now I will make you mine forever. I am sure you are already asleep in the office for there is no point going to your home, we will just do it there. Thank God I am ovulating today for in the next two weeks, I will be giving you the result of what is about to happen.

Hhahaahahahaahaa…..hahaahahahaaha. she parked his car, went to his office and found his office empty. Ah, where is he? Maybe he is in the toilet, but how can we do it there if he is unconscious? Anyway sha, I will try. She went to the toilet and found it empty.

Mogbe! Where has he gone to? She quickly went to the receptionist ‘Hey you, where is your boss?

Receptionist: My boss? He stepped out few minutes ago.

Kehinde: What do you mean he stepped out few minutes ago and why did you allow him to?

Receptionist: I don’t understand you Ma, what do you mean why did I allow him to go when he is my boss?

Kehinde: ‘Never mind’ she said as she rushed out to go look for him ‘Where has he gone to now and where can I find him? He left his phone in the office and I hope he is okay where ever he is ooo or should I go to his house? She asked herself when she walked down two streets looking for him and didn’t find him ‘she decided to go to his house’.

Adaobi was about to open the gate to her house when she sighted a cab man trying and screaming at an unconscious man in his car.

Cab Man: Oga! Oga abeg wake up na, we don reach?Which kind wahala be this one wey I don put myself now.

Episode 14

Adaobi: How is he and is he going to be okay?
Doctor Obiora: He is, you have nothing to worry about.

Adaobi: But what is really wrong with him?
Doctor Obiora: He seems fine, except for the headache you talked about. I have been able to administer some drugs on him,he should be awake soonest. I also took his blood sample for a test.

Adaobi: So you can’t really say what the problem is?

Doctor Obiora: I think it is better we wait for the result to be out first.

Adaobi: Alright and thank you doctor.
Doctor Obiora : It’s no big deal, just give him the drugs when he wakes up.

Adaobi: Alright.

Ayo slept throughout the night and woke up only to find himself naked and in an unfamiliar room he looked again, searched the house with his eyes and saw that he was in Adaobi’s house. He quickly stood up, went to the sitting room and met her still sleeping on the cushion. He was confused as to how he got there and went to her.

Ayo: Ada! Ada! He tapped her gently and she stirred for she was really tired ‘Ada! Wake up please’.

Adaobi: quickly stood up and looked at him ‘Are you okay Ayo, is your head still aching you? Let me get you your drugs.

Ayo: What drugs and what am I doing here?
Adaobi: I should be the one asking you that question Ayo, what happened to you?

Ayo: What do you mean what happened to me?
Adaobi: Can’t you remember what happened yesterday?

Ayo: ‘What happened yesterday? What happened yesterday’ he said out loud ‘I remember gisting and chatting with Kehinde while eating the food she said my mother asked her to give me….thats all.

Adaobi: Is that all you remember?

Ayo: I remember telling her that I want to go home and she should please help me get my car that is three block away from my building.

Adaobi: You didn’t remember telling any cab man to bring you here, or entering a cab?

Ayo: No, is that how I got here?

Adaobi: Yes and you were so messed up. If not that I found you yesterday outside the house with the cab man, while you were unconscious, I wonder what would have happened. But what really happened?

Ayo: I don’t know, I only ate the food Kehinde brought to me.

Adaobi: Who is Kehinde sef?
Ayo: The lady Mami wants me to marry.
Adaobi: Wow! And I wasn’t aware?
Ayo: it’s nothing, we are just friends.
Adaobi: A friend that brought you food to your office is not just a friend.

Ayo: Mami sent her.

Adaobi: it’s obvious she likes her for a daughter in-law.

Ayo: Don’t start.

Adaobi: I am not starting anything other the fact that you should have gone to Kemi’s house instead of my house.

Ayo: I said we are not having anything serious going between us.

Adaobi: Okay, but what really happened?
Ayo: I don’t know, it beats my imagination.
Adaobi: Were you drugged?
Ayo: I have no idea and I don’t think so.
Adaobi: Okay, we will find out soon.
Ayo: what do you mean?

Adaobi: Because a doctor attended to you and your blood sample was taken.

Ayo: When will the result be out?
Adaobi: it should be out soon.
Ayo: alright, it’s still early, let’s go in and catch some sleep.

Adaobi: are you sure you are okay?
Ayo: I am fine, just a little headache.
Adaobi: Arent you hungry?
Ayo: I am okay, let’s go to bed.
Adaobi: I can’t.
Ayo: Why?

Adaobi: Because you are not feeling too well and I don’t trust myself around you.

Ayo: Hahahahaah I am fine, let’s go to bed.
Adaobi: I said no.

Ayo: Why are you refusing me when you have never refused me before?

Adaobi: I don’t want us to do anything stupid based on what is happening to us lately.

Ayo: Lets go to bed and I promise you that we won’t be stupid.

Episode 15

Kehinde tried all she could for three days to find out the location of where Ayo could be and to know if he is alright but didn’t succeed.

She went to Ayo’s mother to know whether her son has called her or If she has heard from him but she said she hasn’t and also asked Kemi if she knew where Ayo could be but she too wasn’t able to help.

Mami: What happened my daughter, ever since I told you to deliver the food to him, you haven’t told me how everything went. What did you guys talk about?

Kehinde: Nothing serious Mami, we didn’t discuss anything personal.

Mami: Did you guys have any misunderstanding?

Kehinde: No Mami, why did you ask?

Mami: because he hasn’t called me to thank me and it’s been three days already. Do you know that I went out of my way to prepare that special meal for him?

Kehinde: Ermmm, he was so happy when he saw the meal you gave to him.

Mami: Really?
Kehinde: Yes Mami.
Mami: But why haven’t I heard from him?
Kehinde: I don’t know Mami, I don’t know. I am really worried about him.

Mami: ‘What do you mean you are worried……..just then, a call came in’ she picked it and said Yes hello, who is this?

Ayo: Hello Mami, it is Ayo.
Mami: Ah Ayo my son, I was just asking Kehinde about you, are you okay?

Ayo: Yes Mami, I am okay, I just called to say hello.

Mami: Really, okay thank you but won’t you speak with Kehinde and why are you calling with a strange number?

Ayo: ‘My phone has been switched off and say me hi to her for I am in a hurry, Bye’ he cut the line.

Mami: This one he cut the line on me, hope all is well.

Kehinde: is that my Ayo, what did he say and is he okay?

Mami: Young lady, which one is, is that Ayo? I thought you two are in good terms, what is wrong with you are why are you panicking?

Kehinde: Mami, was that Ayo and is he okay?
Mami: Yes he is okay and what is wrong?
Kehinde: Mami, I did something very wrong to him.

Mami: What did you do?

Kehinde: I drugged him thinking that I could take advantage of him but it didn’t work.

Mami: I don’t understand, what do you mean you drugged him, how? Where? When?

Kehinde: told him all that transpired with them when she went to deliver the food, how she drugged him and how she failed at her attempt.

Mami: Ah! You drugged my son, what if you had killed him?

Kehinde: I know what I did was wrong and I am so sorry Mami, I don’t know what to do again. Infact, I don’t think I can stand him for what I did was so shameful because I was so desperate.

Mami: Hmmm, to think that I was even the one that said you should get pregnant for him at all cost, I am to be blamed. I hope he gets to forgive us if he finds out the truth and that is if he hasn’t found out already.

Kehinde: Mami, what do I do now?

Mami: I don’t know my child, I will give him some time to get himself and probably get over his anger and after that I will have a talk with him.

Kehinde: Okay Mami.

Two months later, Ayo paid a visit to his mother accompanied by Adaobi for she called her to inform him that he will be coming after so many persuasion from his mother. Mami also called Kehinde to come to the house for her son was coming to pay them a visit.

Ayo: ‘Good day Mami’ he said as he entered the house.

Adaobi: Good day Mami.

Mami: ignored Adaobi and hugged his son ‘My son, welcome home, it’s been a long time.

Kemi: Brother Welcome.

Kehinde: ‘Welcome Ayo’ she said with head bent.

Ayo: ignored Kehinde’s greeting and asked Kemi ‘How is studies Kemi?

Kemi: Fine brother.

Ayo: Sweetheart, Please make yourself at home he told her and she sat down beside him. Turning to Mami he asked ‘Why is Kehinde here today again?

Mami: Just because you two had a little disagreement doesn’t mean she is now the enemy na, the enemy is the one beside you.

Ayo: Hmmm is that why you told me to come here? To listen to this rubbish talk?

Mami: Rubbish ke? When has my talk become rubbish in your ears?

Ayo: Mami, if not because you are my mother, I would have cut ties with all that you did to me. Did you know that because of this your motherly love and advice, I would have died?

Mami: Died ke? How do you mean?
Ayo: did you know that food was drugged by her?

Mami: she is sorry; she never meant me any harm. She told me all about it.

Ayo: Is that all you will say Mami?
Mami: What more can I say if not that and to even think of it, I am partly to be blamed for it.

Ayo: Well, since you decided to go against all odd to drug me, I decided to go against all odd to get married.

Mami: No you won’t get married to this woman here, no way.

Ayo: if that is the case, there is nothing you can do about it now.

Kehinde: Ayo I am very sorry, what I did to you was wrong.

Ayo: You should be and you are forgiven but from now on, I don’t want to see you in my house, office or any- where close to my family.

Kehinde: Ayo Please! Lets forget the past and move on.

Ayo: That is exactly what I am doing, moving on and forgetting the past otherwise, I would have locked you up for what you did.

Kehinde: Give me a second chance let’s get to know each other better for I promise to be the best wife and a good friend ever.

Ayo: I wish but that won’t be possible ever again.

Mami: Ever again, why? Why can’t you just forgive, forget and move on with her, she is sorry na.

Ayo: Anyway, I didn’t come here to talk about this, in fact, I wouldn’t want to come here for a very long time if not because my sweetheart here told me to and since I am here, it’s better we all know what needs to be known.

Mami: What is that?
Ayo: Meet your new daughter in-law and Kemi your new sister in-law.

It’s your decision if you want to accept her with your whole heart or not.

Mami: Have you done the needful?
Ayo: Yes I have since you were not in support; I felt there was no need to get you involved.

Kemi: Welcome to the family.
Adaobi: Thank you.

Mami: I thought I was so important, how could you take such a drastic decision without telling me?

Ayo: You already know why I did and if you won’t accept her for my sake then be ready to lose a son for she is carrying your grandchild already.

Mami: Hmmm…looking at them for a few minutes and remained quiet.

Kehinde: ‘No! Mami, say something, say something please’ she said crying.

Mami: My hands are tied but since they are already married and expecting my grandchild, you are welcome to the family my child.

Adaobi: Thank you Mami.

Kehinde: NO!No!No! She said and left the house quickly.

Mami: ‘I hope I will be given a second chance to be the mother you desire? I am sorry for everything’ she said and hugged her and smiled wickedly.
