“Wonder Woman 1984” has been done for some time and was even scheduled for release late last year (December 2019, way before the COVID-19 pandemic) before delaying until this summer for a bit more time to finish the movie. Several coronavirus spikes later and many summer 2020 release dates finally turned into October 2, 2020 (fingers crossed for no major coronavirus spike in the fall).

Following the news of major layoffs at WarnerMedia and its many subsidiaries, DC Comics and DC Universe have faced a very tough summer. But, in a bid to outdo the virtual Comic-Con@Home this year, DC’s summer event DC Fandome has thrown out all the stops with their first annual virtual presentation. One of the biggest flexes Fandome unveiled: the new trailer for “Wonder Woman 1984” with lots of shiny, colorful new footage and the first real look at Kristen Wiig’s villainess in the movie Barbara Minerva/Cheetah.

The footage was preceded by a panel discussion between Jenkins and the cast, with the group answering a few softball questions about the filmmaking process and how the characters have adjusted to their new time period. The highlight of the panel came at its end, when Linda Carter, the star of the original “Wonder Woman” television series, popped in for a quick words with the cast. This also served as the first “face-to-face” meeting between Carter and Wiig, with the latter taking the opportunity to express her admiration for Carter’s iconic character.

Pedro Pascal plays the evil billionaire character Maxwell Lord and yep, Chris Pine returns as Steve Trevor and we still have no idea how that’s possible given the character died in the original film. Patty Jenkins returns to direct, Hans Zimmer is writing the score and Robin Wright and Connie Nielsen co-star again. Natasha Rothwell, Ravi Patel, Gabriella Wilde, Kristoffer Polaha, and Amr Waked have been cast in undisclosed roles.

But let “Wonder Woman 1984” do the talking for itself: a film that looks vibrant, electric, and steeped in the radical vibe of the 1980s. Watch the new trailer below.
