The homeless man Kai, who became an instant internet sensation in 2013, is the subject of a new Netflix documentary called THE HATCHET WILDING HITCHHIKER. To put it mildly, he was an unlikely hero, and he was praised for doing things that seemed rather grotesque. Or, at the very least, his account of the events was exaggerated.

While the young man did have a temper, he also gave away anything he had to those with less. It would turn out that he dreamed of becoming a vigilante and was committed to pursuing justice. He ended up in jail before the end of the same year for the latter.

The true story of Caleb "Kai" McGillvary is told in the book The Hatchet-Waving Hitchhiker. In 2023, he was a young homeless nomad—or "home-free," as he referred to it—who became an instant internet sensation. When he saved a woman from a violent attack, this happened. He had just hitched a ride from the same man who attacked him.

Kai, as he appeared in an interview shortly after the events took place. Because he only conducted that one interview, the sports reporter became the only person who could communicate with the nomad.

The interview received more than half a million views when it was posted to YouTube that night. In addition, the video was being shared on social media. Kai was a hero because he helped someone in need.

He was admired, admired, and aspired to by others. He even had the possibility of having his own reality show!

Caleb "Kai" McGillivary was on the fast track to becoming an even more unlikely star when he became this unlikely hero and an internet sensation. Because of this, some of the people who had worked on Keeping Up with the Kardashians offered Kai a reality television show.

They envisioned producing a reality show that would, to paraphrase, "Homeless people living happily on the streets." You can't lie about this! Talk about being completely out of touch with the real world and gullible. However, you can call that "reality" television.

Concerts and TV appearances (with Jimmy Kimmel) were part of his strategy to build his "brand" further. However, Kai encountered difficulties wherever he went. However, he always treated the children with kindness. He might very well turn around and give something to someone he thought was more deserving if someone handed him money or something else.

Kai didn't care about money, so they couldn't control him. The reality show was never produced. Kai also didn't really want it to happen. He desired freedom and continued nomadism.

Kai, on the other hand, was sentenced to life in prison three months later for a murder he claims was committed in self-defense.

On Netflix, you can watch The Hatchet-Waving Hitchhiker!
I appreciated Colette Camden's "fly on the wall" approach to presenting the facts and including interviews with relevant individuals in this Netflix documentary. Maybe that's just me, but I would have preferred some tough questions, especially about the title person's family.

I still don't know if Caleb "Kai" McGillvary deserves to be in prison after watching The Hatchet-Waving Hitchhiker. Although the facts are at best hazy, it could have been self-defense. Regardless, he requires assistance that I doubt the prison can provide. It is absolutely preferable to ensure that he receives psychiatric treatment.

Additionally, we ought to all learn not to applaud others if we are not ready to see them all. Since I don't recall Kai's big viral hit in 2013, this is my first encounter with him. The homeless nomad was, as far as I could tell, constantly proving to everyone who he was. This was simply not wanted to be seen, and they later used it against him.

He was even referred to as "assaulting a man" when he was arrested for murder. That man was on trial with Kai as the key witness, so ignoring the facts is unquestionable. He did assist in rescuing people from a liar.

Anyone with an open mind who had dealt with addicts or the mentally ill should have known right away that Kai was a little bit of a liar in his own right. He simply had a more loving and upbeat outlook on life and people as a whole. Except, as he repeatedly states, for "rich, white, fat people!"

Netflix will release The Hatchet-Waving Hitchhiker worldwide on January 10, 2023.
